In honour of the last day of summer, I am making ribs, homemade mac n cheese, baked beans and coleslaw for dinner with peach cobbler for dessert. My mouth is watering already.
Its the first day its rained in about a month here (abnormal) but my rescue dog from West Texas (who we've had 3 weeks) is so confused and will not go out in the rain to do his business. He keeps nope noping everytime we bring him out and peed in the house. Friend, you better get ready for Boston winters because this is childs play compared to that.
I have two broken vacuums that I need to recycle, a robot vacuum and a Little Green Machine, and I can’t figure out where to go. I was expecting to drop them off at the city e waste site, but they don’t take vacuum cleaners. I’ve had the broken deep cleaner in my garage for a while and this morning I plugged in the robot vacuum and it started sparking. I want to avoid having a vacuum graveyard in my house and get rid of them sooner than later.
ny96, not vacuum related, but I’m having recycling issues too. I cleaned my sewing room and I have a large bag of fabric scraps. The textile recycling boxes in my county are fund raisers for the school and only seem to take clothing. One county over they have textile bins at the resident transfer center, I work there but don’t live in that county. But, I sweet talked a coworker in taking my bag.

Dogs usually love snow, even if they hate rain. I always feel like dogs have a special type of joy in the snow.
FWIW, my dog who hates the rain prefers to wear a raincoat and go for a walk to do her business when it's raining.
I got my annual vaccines today, and took a 2 hour nap this afternoon. I wish I could blame the vaccines but I really feel fine - I think I was just tired, lol. What a waste of the afternoon! I've had a lot of weird sleep nights in the last couple of weeks though so I guess I needed it.

I am fighting off something and so exhausted today. I even napped! I hope it doesn’t turn into something. My oxygen drops if I stand up at all. Which isn’t abnormal for me when I’m fighting off a cold or something, but sucks.
I caved to the FB ads and ordered a dress from Pact. I really hope it is the perfect fall dress! I’ve been lifting a lot of weights and put on some lower body muscle, which means a lot of my pants aren’t fitting. For warm weather I wore dresses at home and at work so it hasn’t mattered, but I’m worried as the weather gets cooler.

We have Texas rescue…. We got her 8 years ago. For probably a few years she would try a different door when the weather was not to her liking 😆 Raining at the back door? No, thanks! Let’s try the front door

There’s been a flattened squirrel along our dog walk route for maybe 2 weeks now. Benny, who I have dubbed “Street Meat” on our walks for his propensity to go for any roadkill or food trash, lunges at it on every walk. This morning he caught me off guard and had the damn squirrel jerky in his jaws. I thought he quickly ate it but saw some hanging out, and upon thinking about it coming back up on my new rug, I covered my hand with a poop bag and wrestled it from his mouth. It was a battle of wills but I finally got the whole slimy carcass from him and tossed it over a fence into the woods. I spent the rest of the walk thinking how I couldn’t wait to wash my hands and I need to remember not to let him kiss me for the next week. 🤮🤮
Meanwhile, my lab who will do anything for paper towels that smell like food, had no interest. He was like ewww dude that’s street meat, please be civilized!

Update on honecoming shoes:
She still absolutely refuses to consider sneakers.
We ordered 3 pairs of flat silver sandals online. She decided she can deal with a buckle. Please pray to the shoes gods that at least one pair doesn't "feel funny".
This is her dress. She's very uncomfortable with low necklines and short hems. Most homecoming dresses around here are sooooo short. So that was a whole seperate debacle.

Most of the girls here who wear the sneakers are wearing short dresses. This looks like a more sophisticated dress, so I can see why she wants heels. I hope one of the pairs works for her!

You have to pay for the bag but several retailers offer a credit once you use it. I ordered mine through Bombas.
We just watched the 2022 Danish Speak No Evil (that the one out now was based on) and it was…horrifying. I just looked up the plot to the 2024 film and it has a WAY different ending. Jesus. I’m honestly a little nauseated from it.

My 86-year-old mom had a mini-sling procedure for stress incontinence on Friday. So far, it's been great and she is beyond thrilled with the results. Everything went well-- she was scheduled at a humane time, she handled the anesthesia well and even dodged the need for a catheter on discharge. I was dreading her getting "the matching bag" as I didn't want to DIY the removal of a Foley as my next crafting project.
Her uro-gynocologist was wearing a scrub cap with smiley-face uteri print. So cute.
H and I set off flea bombs yesterday while DS had a soccer game (kept the cats in the unattached garage in their carriers). Then we spent the day deep cleaning, moving furniture, and spraying Raid in every goddamn nook and cranny. We still have a few rooms to go that hopefully we can get done this morning. Oh and I did so much laundry. Our water bill is going to be insane this month.
I was VERY salty about spending a beautiful Saturday cleaning, although our house truly did need deep cleaned so I guess that part was beneficial. But, I still had a couple fleas on my sock when I woke up, so does that mean this was all for nothing or just that it's going to take time? If that was all for nothing, I might need to check myself into a mental health facility, only half kidding.
beerlover , those nasty bastards are a long battle. It was *not* all for naught! Just the major assault. There will be skirmishes that continue for awhile. It will succeed eventually. Without moving or a flame thrower.
My kid is playing club soccer this year. It’s “select” which is basically the level between rec league and full-on travel club soccer. We get some support from the club, but our coach is a parent volunteer, and I have just volunteered to be the team manager.
Many players (in fact, all the except the coach’s family and our family) are new to this club, and I think we’re expecting full-on club level service because the fees are significantly higher than rec league…when in fact our team’s fees are significantly lower than classic club soccer ($600 per year instead of $1500/yr). This means we occasionally have team fees to cover the cost of refs or tournament fees or whatever. And as the club manager I’m on the receiving end of the complaints about being “nickeled and dimed.” Sorry Barbara, but $20 per player per season is reasonable to cover ref fees, and if you don’t pay it then coach and I are going to have to pay out-of-pocket. So just Venmo me for crying out loud.
Also, the team plays 9v9 and we only have 11 players on the roster. Two are brothers and they seem to have a whole lot of scheduling conflicts. Which means playing with no subs, or even down a man like we did yesterday and will probably do today. I get the not everyone has the same level of commitment, especially if they are used to rec league. We have plenty of families who can give players a ride to and from games if the family has conflicting events.

How do I take an unflattering picture on my phone? My face is broken out and I wanted to send a picture to my doctor but when I take my picture it is much more flattering than reality.
My mom is having emergency surgery this morning. She had extreme pain in my her abdomen and so she went to the ER. They did an X-ray and saw something shaped like a needle in her belly. Upon talking more about it they think she swallowed the tine of a metal grill cleaning brush. We were all at my brother's last week for a cook out. He feels awful but what a freak thing. I'm just waiting for the all clear from surgery now.
Omg my goodness, I hope everything went well in surgery?!?

Yesterday my oldest sister & I went on a Pre-Manhattan Tour of Hanford... so the two towns of 500 people each that were in that area before they both got a 30 day eviction notice from the federal government "for the war effort". It was really interesting. If you're ever visiting eastern WA state and need to fill 4 hours of time you can do that tour or a tour of the B Reactor for free. They made plutonium for the bombs to end WW2 there.
Today H, DS(8) and I are going to a friend's house for lunch. Pizza, fruit & veggies and brownies. Yum.

I have a Samsung, not sure about apple. But I have to put the camera in selfie mode, then click on an option at the top which allows me to turn off the face smoothing. It defaults to a certain amount of smoothing when in selfie mode.
I have rosacea and have to do this to capture an accurate photo of a flare up.
I’m still salty that they didn’t make it tied to the OG at all. There were so many possibilities to include the original. Oh well, it was only $2 with my no rush credits.
I have a really bad feeling that DS is being ghosted by his best friend. They still see each other at a weekly activity, but haven't hung out socially since... I cant even remember. March or April?
There is always a reasonable excuse, so DS is still taking the reasons at face value. But the writing is on the wall.
I hope I'm wrong. Within the next month, they will both have their drivers licenses. I think we will have a better idea after they both have that freedom if they can make get-togethers happen... or not.
