UGH! Last month, we bought a Venza so DD could drive our old Rav4. Well, yesterday, she drove it, and it started to shake and couldn't accelerate. I brought it to the shop, and the repairs are $10,000! DH and I are scrambling to figure out if we should junk it and buy a new used car around that same amount or just get it fixed. ACK! Crunching numbers for our budget and we can do it, but man! I was hoping the Rav would have lasted longer.
I hate adulting.
How old are we talking? And with this repair will it increase the longevity of the vehicle? Like, are we talking new transmission? New engine? New motor? $10,000 is a lot of money, but so are used cars. Around here you are looking at at least $15K for something semi-decent, and that is still probably going to have 50-75k miles on it.
Our 2006 Rav4 has over 200K in mileage. The major repair because it's literally unsafe to drive was to replace the rear subframe. It's all rusted out, and close to collapsing. Also recommended the muffler to be replaced since it's shot as well. We found a 2010 Corolla for 10K that has 132,00 miles so we're going to go that route.

Definitely do not sink money into that Rav4. But the repair diagnosis does not really explain the symptoms. A rusted frame and loud muffler would not cause the car to not accelerate.

Oh yeah, no way would I put a dime in to that car. Good luck with the Corolla! May your daughter have many years of safe driving behind the wheel.

I'm working from home today. Not bc I want to but bc Miss R's anxiety spiraled out of control yesterday evening. The good news is that she wishes she wasn't this way. The bad news is that most means to minimize this she wants nothing to do with. She's a doomsday thinker who goes to Dr. Goggle and Dr. Reddit for info, horribly misleading info.

We think our daughter accidently had it in the wrong gear when that happened. She tried again and it accelerated just fine. We just mentioned that just in case.

Ditto. And FWIW, I had a Corolla that went over 200K with literally zero issues outside of regular maintenance. We replaced it with an Elantra almost 3 years ago, and I still miss it.

I would get a second opinion on the rusted frame. having the car in too high a gear would account for both the shaking and non acceleration.... Not saying the frame is fine, but it may be fine for another 5 years..... I would want someone else to look at it.

I feel very stressed/high strung trying to keep up with WFH and all the vacuuming/cleaning I'm supposed to do to keep these fleas (see my previous posts) at bay, lol. "Just vacuum every single day for 6 months" says everyone on Reddit, sure I have time for that. I have maybe seen less than 5 fleas over the last couple days, so I guess what we are doing is working(ish?), however I'd prefer to see NONE...
DS has an appointment this afternoon to get sealants on his lower molars. He had the uppers done in the spring. I am almost weirdly looking forward to it just because I'll get out of the house and we have a little routine where we go to 5 Below and Sweet Frog for frozen yogurt after dentist appointments.
6 months seems like overkill! I haven't had fleas in years but I definitely didn't deal with it that long - maybe a week or two. We also had cats with fleas when I was growing up and I don't remember it being THAT big of a deal (though I was a teen so my mom did most of the work, lol).
In theory they should die if they don't have a source of food, so if your cats are treated now they should not continue living long. Personally I might stop doing anything for a few days and see what happens.

I am definitely having a "I don't want to actually do anything on my to-do list" week. Ugh.
Tonight I'm attending training for being an election judge. It sounds like I'm going to be one of the people who stands around while people actually vote, and makes sure things look normal and people are doing what they are supposed to? I'm curious to learn more. Also I think this is a 3 hour training, which seems like overkill since that all sounds pretty straightforward, so I'm curious what I'll learn!
My neighbor approached me yesterday when I was out walking my dog and asked me if I wanted to volunteer for the HOA board. IDK if that's because he is approaching everyone who he bumps into, or because I've emailed about a few things and he assumes that means I care, lol. I actually wouldn't mind getting involved and getting to know the neighbors more, but I am definitely not interested in enforcing stupid rules about paint colors and other BS that seems to be a part of it. But I've wondered how I could get more involved in the community and maybe this is a good first step.

I think I'll make a solid weeks worth of effort with vacuuming carpets/baseboards every day, or every other (not moving furniture). I have a handheld vac that I can zip along the baseboards relatively quickly. Plus we have a Roomba that I can send around frequently. That better be enough lol.
We had 6 people, FI's family, over for dinner last night. They were literally on their way and FI said he was going outside to work on a nonsense project. Uhh no sir, you have X, Y, and Z to do. I'll never understand how men's brains work when it comes to this. FWIW he did what I asked, plus more, including most of the cooking, and all the cleanup. I keep forgetting how exhausting 3 youngish kids are, but I do enjoy time with them.
omg this drives me mad. H cut the lawn on Saturday. We have been having issues with the mower, so yesterday while we were at work, H charged the battery (?) all day to see if that impacted it (he is a mechanic. I am just making up what he actually did because I have no idea.)
At 5:30 last night when we all get home, he goes to see if the charging of the battery worked. It did not. So now he is running down to the store to just buy a new battery. My dude, it is now 6 pm, we eat dinner at 6:15, we have a wild 7 year old who has school work and parental guidance while I make our dinner. Does this need to be done right now??

If you need a quick and delicious dinner get the trader joes gorgonzola gnocchi and add diced pancetta and shaved brussel sprouts. We had planned to have something else, but the chicken was rancid (sooo gross) so I had to come up with something else and it was delicious and took only 10 minutes to make.

If anyone cares to know, I finished my paper. I’m not too disappointed in my grade given I almost skipped it all together. I made an 85. Bringing my final grade to a B+. I’ll take it. I was over that class
Everyone is back to not being a butthead on vacation. I'm relaxed. I'm enjoying the sun and sand. I'm getting a massage in 2 hours. Everything is chill.
I asked so many questions on this boat tour we took that the guide eventually just sat next to me and chatted for the next 10 minutes because it's "so rare" she has someone super interested. So my husband has been teasing me that I'm a teachers pet ever since.
So it turns out Xavier will need shoulder surgery so that’s fun. Anywhere I can sell a body part for some extra cash? Only half joking. Stupid American healthcare
Sell your feet pics, maybe? I hope it’s not all too terrible
My friend tried to sell feet pics and someone asked for photos of her feet with the toes in the holes of a bowling ball. She got all the way to the bowling alley before she was like "how the fuck am I going to explain this."

Shop around to different surgeons. I had one Oral surgeon quote me 11,000 out of pocket because only dental applied.
It did take a long time to find a different surgeon that also took the health insurance, but ultimately that didn't matter because the ended their health insurance contract. But anyway, he ended up being $230 out of pocket.
Yeah I was surprised by that just last week! I thought they were still like $.37...which I'm sure they haven't been since I was in high school or something, but my brain was definitely still stuck on that number, LOL!

I got my Covid and flu vaccines on Saturday. I had a sore arm and felt crappy on Sunday, but felt fine yesterday. But yesterday the spot where I got the shots (both in same arm) was itchy and red. I'm prone to reactions/eczema and have sensitive skin. If I scratch myself when I'm itchy, I often get red just from the scratching, although I sometimes get random hives, but I often wonder if it's something like, I pet one of my dogs and then scratched myself and broke the skin a bit (I'm allergic to dogs and just ignore that usually).
But today the area was red directly out of the shower even, and has stayed red and is even more itchy than yesterday.
I asked my Dr. dh yesterday if this was a 'reaction' to the vaccines and I should note it to tell them next time, and he laughed me off and was like, no, you're fine. But I would really like it to stop being itchy and go away so I can stop worrying about it.

A girl I used to work with sold her used underwear, $50 a pair base price (12 hour shift). There were other requests that went for more (several days in a row, period, exercise, etc). She made a ton of money doing this.

I shouldn’t be surprised that this market exists but man, people have some interesting—ahem, interests! Haha.

I started on the estrogen patch today! 🥳🥳🥳 I had to get permission from my breast surgeon and my neurologist, but they both gave the green light. I also have vaginal estrogen tablets to insert, but I’m starting those tomorrow night.
To say I am delighted would be an understatement. Fuck perimenopause.
