someone in a meeting today was like "I'm sorry, but seriously who uses powerpoint anymore"...I raised my hand and they were like "oh"
I've definitely done a fair amount of things on canva but still prefer powerpoint for actual presentations. I believe a fair amount of our faculty on campus do too?

Canva is so much better. But idk if it is age related. I also loathe Microsoft Word and have no idea why people don't just use Google docs. It's about usability for me and people of all ages benefit from that!

That's a weird thing to say in a meeting. I use the software that my company provides, which is PowerPoint. I can't install my own software on company systems.
I don't design things, I create decks with bullet points and some excel charts. People 20 years younger than me are doing the same things.

I use it on an almost-daily basis. The instructor-led trainings we create in my role utilize PPT for the deck (we use other tools for additional materials and resources). PPT can actually do a lot of neat things and look really cool if done well! I like using it.

Someone I was working with started our presentation on canva, so I went with it. Whoa, what a learning curve. It does look nice though but I’m not rushing to use it again lol.
I exclusively use Google slides these days. My PowerPoint and word accounts are no longer active.
My company uses Microsoft products, so I work in PowerPoint a lot.
I do work for a construction company and there’s definitely a somewhat old school mentality around some things, but I don’t feel like using PowerPoint is outdated. Lots of companies continue to use the Microsoft suite. 🤷🏻♀️

There is PowerPoint and then there is PowerPoint.
Even in its heyday, I sat through some awful PP presentations. (Always at the health department! was it a state requirement?)
You can develop some more than good presentations using PowerPoint AND interesting links and creative slides. You can also use some other platforms, software, etc. I went to my DD’s high school tonight for curriculum night. They are doing some impressive work. In high school!

My company uses PPT. So does..... every big company I've ever interacted with. The 21 year old interns use it. SYing only old people use it is very out of touch with corporate America.
I also prefer PowerPoint personally, but my college students mostly use Google Slides. I'm sure they think I'm old for using PowerPoint! Many also use Google Docs instead of Word for papers. This has been true for several years. I think many are used to using Google products in high school, and just stick with afterwards.
I barely make slideshows but when I do, I use Keynote on my Mac. The last time I made one (two years ago), I used Canva to create a fun custom background and then imported the background into Keynote to put together the presentation.
In 2021 when DD was third grade, she kept telling me she had to make slides for an assignment and I had no idea what she was talking about. When she finally showed me, she was referring to Google Slides. I had never seen Google Slides prior to this. As she went through it, I realized it was like Power Point and showed her how to fix and change some things. We both were very confused by each other that day. She was confused why I kept calling it Power Point yet I knew how to use the program even though I had never seen it before. I was confused why a 3rd grader was making a slide show.
I still use PowerPoint, but I’m both old (well, 43) AND in the military. Military LOVES PowerPoint. You can pry it out of my cold dead hands.
Yes they do.
I don't really care the vehicle that is providing the slides, but they are a very big part of my job as a whole whether it's training, providing data in an easy read format, etc.

Also work for a larger corporation that uses Microsoft, so I basically live in Power Point and Teams. DS uses Google Slides since our school system uses Google and the kids all have Chromebooks. I

My company uses the MS Office suite of products, so I use PowerPoint, Excel, and Word all the time. My kids (8th & 9th grades) use Google Slides for school.

I use all three.
PowerPoint is my least favorite-mostly because it is on my work computer but not my home so I can’t access it at home.
I teach google slides to my classes for tech
But I do a LOT of my introduction lessons in Canva. I love love the short cuts for timers and confetti and bubbles appear on the screen. Canva designs really holds the interest of K-2. I usually do the objectives/materials used/etc in Canva.
I'm a Fed and we use powerpoint for everything. We have predesigned templates we have to use too. There is no place for creativity lol.
This thread reminded me that when I was a sophomore in college my professor assigned a project in Excel. I had to go up to him after class and ask what that was. I can't fathom now how I didn't know by then.

It also saves everything to the cloud, so they can't lose what they've worked on.
We need the info communicated. The heart of the communication is the words the presenter is saying, not the “prettiness” of the program. Fancy slides will never save a bad presenter.
I think what I’m trying to say is Canvas, PowerPoint, Google Slides, whatever. Present well with whatever you got, youngin’.
