I also wish we would all, collectively, stop politicizing every single goddamn thing on social media, ie: "Here is a cute video of a puppy" with comments "Dog looks dumb, must be a democrat" or "what republican asshole taught him to roll over like that". I know that's not election specific, but I just can't relate to people who make their political party their entire personality.
I'm in a FB group for a workout program I do. There are over 20K members, so obviously there are going to be differing opinions on ANY topic! Someone posted a post-workout selfie the other day where a Trump flag in her garage happened to be visible, and someone commented something anti-Trump and about not making posts political on that page. And they were the ones making it political! You could tell that she wasn't actively trying to include on the Trump flag in the photo, it's just part of her workout space. Sure, I'm going to shudder and then make a little mental note about that person, but then I'll just keep scrolling.
My grocery store is out of toilet paper and I then watched a lady cram her cart full of bottled water. What is happening. I don’t need these 2020 flashbacks.
The port closing/strike hysteria.
Oh I know. But like toilet paper? That’s produced here. If you are going to panic buy go for the coffee. It was just strange to witness.
jinkies I wonder if we map to the same NextDoor. I can’t even go on there. I’m not on FB so I just try to remain blissfully unaware. The commercials alone are driving me batty.
I will say, there’s a house by me that has consistently and loudly displayed pro-Trump crap for at least 8 years. He had one of those big signs and it got completely obliterated with graffiti, and it was pretty bad. Instead of replacing it he’s built sort of a shrine around it. Even though I disagree with him 1000% I admire his creativity 🤣
There are two houses on my way to work that made me bust out laughing. Right on the property lines, one house has a Trump sign and one house has a Harris sign. They turned them to directly face each other. It's hilarious. It's an actual face off. There isn't more than a foot between them.
On a much lighter note from my community facebook pages: there has been a stray peacock wandering my town for weeks. Literally every day someone posts "Is someone missing a peacock? It's in my yard!" as if there haven't been multiple posts a day about this peacock for at least a month.
The absolute funniest part of the story is that someone WAS missing a peacock. He picked up said peacock a few weeks ago. Now people are posting this one and tagging him, and his response is "Funny story. I picked up what I thought was my missing peacock last month, but I actually don't think that the one I picked up was mine. I think this wandering peacock is mine, but now I don't know what to do with the one I already picked up."
I don't get out much; the peacock saga has been the highlight of the past few weeks for me.

I'm only through page 1. emilyinchile, congratulations! I was going to say Cookie looks like Cookies and Cream ice cream <3
I hate "where do you see yourself" questions and agree they should be eliminated, esp if a lot of (younger) employees are moving employers in less than 5 years, but what do I know? Good advice here though, have to write it down for myself.
jinkies I agree. I live in a historically blue state, but a very purple area. I'm so sick of you can't say anything bad about Cheeto, but dems are all morons and blanketed in to anything. I'm sure they say people stocking up on toilet paper are "dems", even though I find it starts with openly red, or ya know just anyone as I don't ask them their political officiations.
I think we're ok on TP, but part of me wants to get one more stock up next time we go to the store. I'm trying to trust all the reports that it shouldn't be effected, and would be less of an issue if people didn't frigging hoard. Some of them probably still have it from 2020! The water bottles kill me though. I can understand for a storm, hurricane etc., but do people just not know how to use their sink and a filter? I would have to buy my dad water bottles and it drove me crazy. I'd re-fill them and put them back in the fridge because it's way too wasteful.

I need to be locked away from the Cameo company. Ordered a video for my friend about to have surgery from Goldberg in the Mighty Ducks. He turned it around so quick I'm not even ready to give it to her yet, but will next week. It came out so good. Just so happy to see the gentleman pretty healthy based on his unfortunately public history. I think we made his day when I put in the note that our college class started quacking in to graduation ceremony as our mascot was/is the Ravens/birds and they fly together or whatever. Anyway, one more Cameo for my DH and then I'm putting a block haha.
Taking my dad to an apt today and it's been a huge production. Thankfully I was able to get them to move it to telehealth so I just have to drive to his Memory Care place, but the number of phone calls I've had to make just to get and then send bloodwork is ridiculous. Driving to and form an actual appointment would be faster!

There's a garden center in town that has a free-range peacock and sometimes it wanders on the nearby sidewalks. Inevitably there will be "anyone missing a peacock?" posts on the local FB pages when it wanders. That's hilarious that the guy in your town brought home an imposter peacock!
shauni27 , you could try to steer your son to being Desmond Doss (he is the person which the movie Hacksaw Ridge is about). He was a conscientious objector (he was opposed to using guns) in WWII, but became a medic because he wanted to help in the war effort. I get what you are saying, and Desmond Doss was not a pacifist, but he was a war hero without having to pick up a gun.
DD got an A on her math test this week. She has struggled with confidence in math, and it's not her favorite subject, so for her to get an A is awesome.
Football game day for DS, and it's another beautiful day of weather for football. Today is game #6 of 9 games, and we have not had one game with cold or rainy weather yet, which is unusual for Michigan this time of year.
to be fair, when we started talking about his costume in more detail, he meant a revolutionary war soldier, lolol.
jinkies, I love this! Please update us on any peacock follow up. bbdoll, there are two houses in our town who are doing the same thing! I think less than a foot apart. The Trump house has probably 30 giant flags and signs (some homemade) and the Kamala sign just says "Kamala, obviously."

I also have a pair of Trump/Harris supporters participating in "sign wars" in my town and driving by their yards is the highlight of my day. It starts slow but as election season ramps up there are more and more signs. The Harris house also has LGBTQ+ signs and flags. The Trump house added a life size Trump blow up this week that actually lights up at night. Driving past these houses is the entertainment I need.

LOL! Well, that is definitely a specific era of soldier!
ssmjlm, a few months ago, we had an employee come to the building an like 2am and do something that made our front door need major repairs. They never really explained what happened, but the rumor mill said he beat up the flag pole and broke the glass. But, the had an all hands meeting for next day, and I was almost crying hearing the questions, a couple “are we safe?” But the majority were is he ok, is he getting help, what can we do for his family.
15 years ago today, my second cousin who lives in DE, who was 16 at the time, was in a car accident with her 12 year old brother and her parents, and was the only survivor. I remember coming home from ordering wedding invitations with my mom, and my dad met us on the front porch when we got out of the car, and I won't forget the look on his face. He played a voicemail from our other cousin who had shared the news. That was probably the worst thing that ever happened in my family and I can't believe it was that long ago. My relative who was driving ran a stop sign, but the stop sign was in an odd place and easy to miss, and it was eventually moved. Beau Biden came to the viewing for the 3 of them. It was just all kind of surreal. Anyway, feeling a little melancholy about that today.

Yeah they were talking about this on the Today show. Toilet paper is made in the US and delivered via trucking. They said you should be more worried about imported beer lol

In 2020, my Trump neighbor put up a sign on the lawn at the front of our complex (we have 4 houses). The next day, a different neighbor put up a Biden sign, then I added a BLM sign and the 3rd neighbor put up a small pride flag surrounding it.
"Hello babies. Welcome to Earth. It's hot in the summer and cold in the winter. It's round and wet and crowded. On the outside, babies, you've got a hundred years here. There's only one rule that I know of, babies-"God damn it, you've got to be kind.”

I think it's mostly uninformed folks flashing back to 2020 and thinking they're getting ahead now...only they're making it be a huge problem. Oh and then they'll complain the current administration is ruining everything and Cheeto would have prevented the strike and/or shortage, like that's how it works...*Sigh*

My bourbon club in England is freaking out about the dock strike because there is a big shipment that was meant to be happening around now and it's delayed. LOL. (most of our club has plenty of bourbon on hand so it's not like they'll actually be hurting). It's so British to freak out about alcohol versus anything else.
I went with E to see The Wild Robot. It was SO cute and the animation was amazing. We had an interesting conversation about human emotion-displaying animals and sentient robots afterwards on the car ride home. My son is 13 going on 30.

Is there an update on the cousin? How are they doing 15 years later?
She is doing great! Married with one child and one on the way. She lived with an aunt for the rest of high school, and went to college for teaching. She’s an amazing person.

What a wonderful update. Almost certainly she has a hard time around this anniversary, but I'm glad she found family support and is doing well.

Today has been rough, R has been on the emotional edge with me this week. It's been deluging since yesterday but today she pushed me. She was issued a juvenile citation. What happens next isn't up to me but god I hated doing that to her.
