A little over 3 years in, life with L has gotten into a good routine where it doesn't feel like we're constantly on the edge of total chaos and disaster.
S is 7 and decided he wanted to be Calvin from Calvin and Hobbes for Halloween. We LOVED it, best idea, so easy and creative and fun and VERY "on brand" for him. We always joke that he is just like the comic book character.
He has since changed his mind and decided he wants to be a soldier. sobbbbbbb. (as an aside, how is it that this little loving, sweet boy who came from a family of complete pacifists wants to be a soldier?!?!)

OMG noooo LOL
This is how I feel when my kid says he wants to be a police officer 😂😭
Someone at work was suspended yesterday. It was a whole thing. Everyone is standing around talking about it this morning.
I don't know any details, but I do that the person was having some issues in their personal life. I am worried for their mental health with all of it and mentioned that to my boss.

Cookie is adorable! I love the speckles!
I hate when a job interview asks what my 5 year plan is. Most of the time it's not to stay at that job, my goal is always to move up, so I end up making stuff up and sounding weird. I think they need to do away with that question. At my interview this morning I told the interviewer that I wanted to get my doctorate and she looked at me like I'm crazy and now probably thinks I won't have the time for the job or I won't stay there. I suppose I really need to practice that question and come up with some vague non-answer.

yup, same. He LOVES dressing up in his police costume (that someone else gifted him, lol). Meanwhile we are pretty firmly in the "abolish the police" camp. Last night we played apples to apples with him and the category was "something scary" and my husband played "the police" and won lol.

I think a good answer always involves some element of the truth. "Finding a good balance between my career and personal life that allow me to flourish within both."

We have art up in our living room of a duck setting fire to a police car (Matte Stephen's Duck the Police) and we had a playdate the other day and his friend was like, "What's that duck doing?!" LMAO 💀

emilyinchile, Cookie is adorable! I love her little spots. My one dog has them on her feet and chest and we call them her freckles
I've been feeling off all week. Besides my issues falling asleep at night, I've just felt so nauseated during the day. Not enough that I need to take a sick day, but enough that I don't want to drag myself in to the office. We have a 3 day in office schedule, and any extra wfh days have to be approved by your manager. I might have led my boss to believe that I am sicker than I am just so that I don't have to go in. Sue me LOL
This has been a rough week. I was gone for work on Tuesday and didn't get to bed until about midnight from catching bats. Found out Wednesday morning that DD1 was sick overnight and H got no sleep, so I quickly finished up my work plans and got home early. Today is the twins' birthday (they are 2 already, how?!) so I was doing a bunch of birthday prep last night... And then DD1 got sick again so no one got any sleep 🥴
I have so many chores and errands to run today in addition to keeping DD1 happy.
Their birthday party is Saturday. We've got a bunch of family coming in throughout the day tomorrow. I've got so much prep to do, and I'm just waiting to see who else gets sick. I swear every birthday party I plan is cursed.
I have to write a case study for my accreditation and I haven't done this in years and years. I've gotten a lot of sources, figured out who I'll write about and now it's time to start. Ugh. So much reading and writing (about 4,000 words plus). There are VERY specific ways to write and the last time I wrote one I did not do well with it, so a bit nervous. Hopefully this time it'll be better!

I would say something about wanting to grow with the company and for your own development. I’d also ask them, when it’s your turn to ask questions, what their options for growth and advancement are.
I am off today. I'm getting some laundry and other things done around the house, will do a workout soon, and then I might drive out to our lake later to walk around the trail there and then maybe read at a picnic table before I need to pick up DS. I needed this day so badly.
Earlier this week my best friend asked if I would take her sister's ticket and join her for a concert tonight. I love live music and had a free evening so I said yes.
I'm going to see Hanson. lol I only know MMMBop. But oh well, it's a free evening out!
Cookie is a very appropriate name. She reminds me of a superr cute Oreo.
L chose it because her spots are like chocolate chips! Then we had to explain that since Cookie is a name in this case, we'll just call her that all the time instead of calling her Galleta in Spanish haha.
She's probably 2-3 years old, according to the rescue. As she gets more comfortable (she arrived Tues) I'm thinking more like 2 because some puppy energy is coming out.
shauni27, you could try to steer your son to being Desmond Doss (he is the person which the movie Hacksaw Ridge is about). He was a conscientious objector (he was opposed to using guns) in WWII, but became a medic because he wanted to help in the war effort. I get what you are saying, and Desmond Doss was not a pacifist, but he was a war hero without having to pick up a gun.
DD got an A on her math test this week. She has struggled with confidence in math, and it's not her favorite subject, so for her to get an A is awesome.
Football game day for DS, and it's another beautiful day of weather for football. Today is game #6 of 9 games, and we have not had one game with cold or rainy weather yet, which is unusual for Michigan this time of year.

My DD wants to be on a SWAT team when she grows up, or in the military or possibly both. She has quite the collection of SWAT costumes and fake weapons and loves to stealth around the house like she's a Navy Seal. I don't know whether to be scared or proud. She says she wants to help save people, so her intentions are good!
emilyinchile eee! I love Cookie!! I submitted DD2's art pieces to her potential high school today. She's going for an art scholarship. I know it's a long shot but I am praying she at least gets past the first round. She struggles with a lot and tries SO hard, and has to really work at things, esp. bc of her ADHD. She's a very gifted artist and I'd love for her to be recognized in some way. Also I am slightly annoyed bc her BFF was like, oh fun, art scholarship and also applied. She's a straight A student (who could get an academic scholarship) who gets the lead in plays (and could get a musical scholarship) and has actually made DD feel bad about her art being better in the past so there is a shameful part of me hoping that BFF doesn't get the scholarship.
When I opened my mail ballot last week the "secrecy envelope" and mail envelope were already fused bc it was so damp and humid outside. I managed to pry it open and sent back my ballot but I'm worried. It was actually on the news that this was widespread and some of my local representatives are posting about it and of course MAGA is shrieking, THIS IS HOW THEY CHEAT!! Sigh. I haven't gotten the notification they received my ballot and I'm kind of freaking out.
My grocery store is out of toilet paper and I then watched a lady cram her cart full of bottled water. What is happening. I don’t need these 2020 flashbacks.

I think our sons are really close in age! DS wanted to be the devil for Halloween and I vetoed that idea so he doesn’t get shunned from his school/neighborhood that can be religious. He said he wanted to be something scary and his second choice was a police officer 🤣

I got a bill today for over $3000 from a surgery I had over a year ago. Before the surgery, I got an estimate of costs and was required to pay upfront $3500. On the bill it's obvious they've been going back and forth with insurance with new adjustments and charges, but now I get to call insurance to try to find out A. Why the charges were almost double what the estimate was (and I don't really expect an answer to this, but need to politely express my outrage about it), and B. Why it took so long to get the final bill, because had it been billed in the last fiscal year, it would have put me over the top for my insurance's individual out of pocket limit.
I can't wait for this election to be over. I live in a very purple area, and the near daily posts on community pages (from both sides) about their signs being taken/knocked over/defaced, and how it's evidence that their opponents are evil classless morons, is draining.
I also wish we would all, collectively, stop politicizing every single goddamn thing on social media, ie: "Here is a cute video of a puppy" with comments "Dog looks dumb, must be a democrat" or "what republican asshole taught him to roll over like that". I know that's not election specific, but I just can't relate to people who make their political party their entire personality.
I periodically deactivate social media and I think it's time again.
Semi-related, I am listening to a podcast called "American Radical" about one of the people killed at the capital on January 6. It is so easy to see how her life circumstances made her vulnerable to being sucked in. It makes me sad.
