Went to family day at my sons university. It was great to see him with his friends, chat with his roommate, put faces to names and to hang out on campus with him a bit.
Unfortunately My husband has been struggling with a poison ivy outbreak. it is all over him. ugh
Tomorrow I work 8-1:30 and I'm so glad i made the decision to get my groceries done tonight so I can come straight home. I have a lot of housework that needs to be done still.
We found out this afternoon a coworker that was sick has passed. He has battled kidney disease for over a year and was out of the office since November 2023.
This plus the employee being suspended last week is a lot. We do have EAP for those that need or want it.
I am thinking of all of the people he worked with who will want to know. Telling my team today was a lot. He was an amazing coworker.
We went to an annual, local festival (big, the kind where there is a mainstage with cover bands, beer garden, tons of food and crafts, and that take over the entire downtown area). It was fun as always, except it being a pres election year it brought out the assholes.
I refrained from flipping off the entire GOP tent, and later took great joy in the person in the inflatable unicorn suit dancing around one of those religion hate mongers with the signs about all the ways you are going to hell. People were hugging and taking pictures with the unicorn, and giving the hate mongers the stink eye.
Now I'm on a short water break in my Peloton stack to work off all the cheese I ate, while my H and a friend install our new microwave. (It broke this week - bad power supply - after we replaced the broken handle about 2 weeks ago. 🤦🏻♀️At least it didn't burn down our house.)
I don't drink a lot usually and this weekend was one of the exceptions - so much wine (for me). Friday night H and I shared a great bottle of red (once a month steak night) and last night I shared a bottle of red with my friend who came to my area for drinks and dinner. Also had a few cocktails. Luckily, drank a ton of water so not feeling bad this morning other than just lazy.
Today is my city's big fall parade. DD is supposed to walk and dance with the dance team and she is giving me all the tween attitude. It's apparently too sunny, too boring, and too everything. I made plans with the other team moms to tailgate after we drop off the girls, so hopefully she can adjust her attitude. I think 12 is going to be rough.
I need to figure out what we’re actually going to do in NYC at the end of this month. I have a list but don’t know where anything is so I don’t know what to put on each day.

DS(8) has been wearing his crocs all summer. It's time to transition to tennis shoes and he needs bigger shoes. Usually I buy online and go about the day. H and I took him to buy new shoes at an actual store and we are so glad we did; he went up three whole sizes since June! OMG!
Also, DS got his covid shot yesterday. He slept like crap and barfed when he got up (thankfully in a bowl). Reactions to this covid shot have been amplified for H, DS and myself this year.
We went to the PSU game yesterday at noon (left the house at 630 to tailgate, oye). We have season tickets with friends, but I only go once or twice a year because I don't really care about football and also we have a child that I can't get an all-day sitter for multiple Saturdays. Hanging out, grilling food and having a few beers in the sunshine with friends was exactly what I needed after a rough past few weeks, though. It was really fun! I also love a Noon game because I don't have to commit to all day. We went back to our friends' house afterward to hang out for a bit and were home with pizza by 7pm, and in bed by 930pm.
I'm just doing laundry and putting in a grocery order. I have to get DS back from my parents. We're going to meet up at a state park about halfway between us and walk around for a bit before I take him home. It's supposed to be gorgeous out, so that will be nice.
I included both Benadryl (for night) and Claritin in DS's suitcase b/c he seems somewhat allergic to cats and environmental stuff, like me. My mom just informed me that she gave him some Benadryl b/c he was stuffy. Like, don't most people know that Benadryl is for nighttime? She was also a nurse, lol. Oh well. Hope he doesn't fall asleep midday.

If it makes you feel better my kid can take Benadryl and function like normal. Personally I can't relate lol.

My sister gets wired like she drank too much coffee when she takes benadryl.

Definitely post the list. I live right outside the city and commute there 4 days a week. Happy to help.

A lot of friend’s kids are going to homecoming this year so I’m seeing lots of pics. Some kids I went to school with since 5th grade were High School sweethearts and are still together. They have a boy and a girl close in age. The girl is the spitting image of her mom and the boy is a mini me of his dad. The parents don’t have similar features. It’s really trippy, having known them in high school because it’s literally like looking at photos of them.
I went to Lake Tahoe yesterday, which is my favorite place in the world. Sat on the beach with my son for a few hours, had dinner out, ice cream on the way back to the house. It was an absolute perfect day and solidified that I will eventually move up there.

I today’s edition of what my dogs have done now:
I recently bought a timed feeder for my cat. He gets a can in the AM and normally grazes on dry throughout the day. But the lab would find any opportunity to charge up to the 3rd floor and eat the whole bowl of dry food before I could grab him. In place of having a pet door installed for the cat, I bought the feeder and had it release food 4 times a day. I reasoned that if piggy boy got it, at least it would just be one small serving. He last made it up there the other night. I went up today to clean the litter box and saw that the dispenser had been knocked on its side and the food reserve was completed empty.

My sister is in the ICU with jaundice and it’s looking like liver failure. I can’t believe this is her life. It is tragic that what should be the best time of her life (retired, doting on her grandkids) has been stolen like this. Even if she doesn’t have liver failure, she has bilateral neuropathy in her feet, memory loss, incontinence, and more. All due to her drinking. She’s been in and out of detox and rehab more times than I can count.
The WLS to severe alcoholism pipeline is real and not talked about enough. She NEVER had a problem with alcohol before WLS. She had the occasional margarita and that’s it. The more I read about transfer addiction and post WLS alcoholism, the more I hear the same stories.
Oh rosiebear, I’m so sorry. We lost my cousin far too young to those kinds of health problems stemming from PTSD-related alcohol addiction. It’s so hard and unfair. (((hugs)))

this is me as well. I hate it, and I can never adequately explain why I don't want to take benadryl when it would solve the issue just fine for most other people. I recently discovered benzedrex and it has been awesome. All the benefits of cold medicine with none of the manic side effects 👍
ETA: I do take benadryl when I have hives. Benzedrex does not help with that, sadly. Fortunately, I don't have to do that often because I really do sound unhinged/on speed when I take it. I usually try to wait til just before bed so I can just sleep through the mayhem (unexpected bonus of having to use a cpap is the built in breathing exercises 😅).

The hockey team held a carwash today. They raised almost 1k in 4 hours. But it was like herding cats. High school aged boys and water. They were all soaked within the first 5 minutes. I am tired.
I'm in CT visiting areas where I grew up with my mother who hasn't been up here in decades.
My father still lives here and we're all having dinner tonight. They've been divorced for over forty years and have only seen each other twice since I became an adult. Should this be interesting.
My stepmother passed away earlier this year and MH keeps joking that my parents are going to hit it off and get back together. No thank you!
I read the article about the new study on carcinogens in black plastic cookware and now I’m mildly horrified because I’ve been using that type of cookware oh I don’t know, my WHOLE LIFE.
I don’t know if what I have is the same type that was studied (might be nylon, but then again, that’s plastic too?) but tomorrow I’m going out to buy a new flipper, ladle and potato masher.

It’s also in electronics.
Nothing I can find really gives any real clue to what your concern level is supposed to be here. I’m not ingesting my utensils. I don’t cook in my spoon. They only touch the food briefly to move it around in the pan. They don’t even really get hot.
How much is actually being released or whatever? I just keep seeing that it’s present and concerning but not the real practical application of that news.

I agree - it’s kind of confusing. Not sure if this is just fear-mongering (like, there are carcinogens in furniture, carpet, etc - which I think we all know, but like, what are we supposed to do about it), or whether I should really be concerned.
