(((( Susie,))))) losing a member of the family is so hard.
We leave for Iceland on Wednesday. We needed our guest bath functional for the dog sitter. Apparently H is now feeling the time crunch, after us discussing it for weeks and him spending the past two Sundays watching football. This is the bathroom he started remodeling 18 months ago. And it’s causing me all sorts of anxiety, too. He just needs to install the toilet and sink. And honestly, sink is optional. All I wanted was a toilet, but, you know, he had to paint and finish the tile in the bathtub.
Oh, and we still need to pack. Also, our first international flight in ~10 years. There is likely to be a stress induced fight at some point.

I am so sorry Susie. I lost < that guy over there in a similar way. I hope your children remember Marcy so well that when they're 40, they're friends will know stories of her. Retrievers are the best and we're lucky to be their families, even though its never for long enough.
sunshineandpinot - maybe I'm on edge because of the recent attempted hacking of my HSA, but I wouldn't care about paying the $13, but I WOULD want to know how the hell my CC number was given over the phone to a restaurant so I wouldn't be able to just let it go.
I agree with this. I'd want to give grace if it was a locally owned place (sounds like it is) more than I would for a chain but the fact that my card number was out there would outweigh things.
this 👆 the charge could be a scam test. I had a similar low charge from Uber (hadn't used the service in years) that I disputed with my bank. They issued me a new card, and I froze my credit. Pain in the butt and not Ubers fault, but I can't afford to let small charges like that go unanswered. Just grateful my bank supported my dispute.

I'm so sorry Susie. She sounds like a great member of your family who was there for you thru many important times. You were the perfect family for her.

Are people really taking on $700/$800+ a month car payments? Even the leases are like $600+.
We are looking to get a hybrid that can fit the family, and test drove a couple cars. They ran numbers, and said that they just generically put in 9.9% APR (WTF?!), and the numbers were bonkers for a monthly payment.
We have excellent credit and they’re offering $13k for our trade-in. And it’s still 🍌
Susie, I am so very sorry for your loss. I lost a golden in a very similar way at almost the same age, and I will never forget how terrible and shocking it feels. My heart goes out to you and your family.
Jalapeñomel, we just got a new car with a payment of $780/month, and that was with a $13k trade-in + $12k down. Only 5.8 more years to go - whee!
Jesus Christ how much was the car? For 6 years???
I think around 80, so not too bad? It’s the interest rate that was that killer. Of course, this is CDN - prices are higher here because our dollar is worth like a nickel US.
Thank you all for your kind words. She was the absolute best.
In my head, I know that going from happy to passing away on her own time, in the space of 12 hours, is the best outcome for her. Car rides made her anxious as she got older, and passing at home meant no car, no ride to a vet, no waiting in a waiting room or exam room, just home on her own dog bed in our bedroom, which was always her safe space to retreat to when the kids got rowdy.
This was objectively the best, most peaceful end possible for her. It also spared us the process of losing her a thousand times in the space of a few months, like I felt we went through with our last dog, between diagnosis and eventually euthanizing. But it's such a shock. I feel like part of me is gone.

$80k is a very expensive car. There are lots of good options for half that price.
I’ve had a recruiter reach out to me about a job in Canada where they would sponsor me through immigration. It’s a job that would be right up my alley. I haven’t talked at all with the recruiter but now I’m in a rabbit hole of what it would take to move to Canada, what would be available for my kids, whether we could take my MIL who practically lives with us, how much housing would be.
And again, I haven’t even talked to anyone. Lol. I’m just a tiny bit ahead of myself here.

$80k is a very expensive car, no?
Looks like that's about $59k US so expensive but not 80k at least.
I drive a car we paid 15k though so still sounds like a lot to me, lol

Better in CDN, but still more than twice what I’ve ever paid for even a brand new car lol. Although I haven’t bought a car since 2018 and I know things are different now.
