It's a short week for me, but that's only because I have to take DS16 for some medical tests on Friday. He's been having stomach issues for quite some time and the doctor is very concerned because he has lost weight and dropped down significantly on the growth chart. I have a ton of GI issues and I really hope that he is not headed down that same path.
I also get to work from home an extra day this week because my cats are getting spayed tomorrow, so I'm stressed about that as well.
All that to say that this is a short week with an extra wfh day and I am not looking forward to any of it.
DD (5) has been begging to dye her hair pink for a month so we did it this weekend (not the whole thing, but very large chunks). She was sooo happy and then our 7 year old neighbor made it be known she didn't like it and DD was crestfallen. This morning at drop off alllll the little kindy girls were obsessing over it and asking their moms if they could have pink hair too and DD was absolutely GLOWING. I'm so glad, because I wanted to drop kick our neighbor yesterday.

As I'm wearing a shirt with a company logo and name badge on my hip a man stops me in the parking lot to ask if I work here. I really wanted to say "wtf do you think sir". 🙄

I'm out of patience and it's only 9 am on Monday. This might be a long week at this rate. I'm trying to just breath and remember I can't control other people's behavior.
This weekend we filed for our wedding license. It's less than 50 days away now!
I have my one year colonoscopy on Monday and DH is having a lot of anxiety around what they'll find. The meds work for the most part, but I think he wants normal back and well my body isn't going to be normal anymore.
My parents were here visiting the last 5 nights, and I dropped them at the airport this morning. We had a really nice weekend. We ended up doing day trips to DC and Baltimore, as well as my dad installed 2 new ceiling fans for us and we watched some football and hung out at home, went for a couple of nice meals, etc. It was a nice break from regular life and so good to hang out with them. I definitely haven't seen them enough this year! I do not take our time together for granted, especially as I know they are getting older and we won't be able to do things like this forever. It was sad to see them leave today, but I am also glad to be back to normal today - I am not used to being around people so much and I'm happy to have a quiet and boring day today, I'm tired!
I am off again on Friday because I have a friend coming to town to visit Thursday night. I'm not super excited about having guests two weekends in a row (especially our last guests were last December, so it's not like this is a frequent thing for us) but I AM excited to see my friend. She's coming for a concert but will be here a couple of days before so we'll do some other fun things I'm sure.
DS woke up with a very sore/dry throat and cough/throat clearing thing. Now he could definitely be getting a cold, but he has allergy symptoms most mornings (and pollen is HIGH here right now) and I've also seen him breathing through his mouth while sleeping, so I think that was most of the problem. I had him take a steamy shower and drink a hot tea and he seemed so much better after, so I did take him to school. He seemed fine otherwise and wasn't like asking to not go to school or anything. Hopefully I don't get a call. I especially hope he isn't actually getting sick, because the exterminator is coming for treatment #2 tomorrow and we need to be out of the house for 4 hours, and I am not postponing it.

Woke up every half hour starting at 3 until my alarm went off at 5:30, and then of course felt like I could go soundly back to sleep. Yawn.
I really need to find a day I can take off to get a haircut and my flu/covid shots, but coordinating both of those things with my work calendar and kid stuff feels just overwhelming. First on the list is the kids' well checks though, which also gets weird around work and extracurriculars. At least they can do their vaccines at those appointments (I think, the ped's website just mentions covid shots for 4&u and 5-11, DD is 15...).
We got our flu shots yesterday. My arm is not sore today, so that’s great. We also bought Halloween costumes. Both my sons want to be characters from horror movies they’ve never seen, lol.
Tonight, I’m going to my city’s monthly council meeting to argue about them taking away our sidewalk. It’s all so stupid and aggravating.
I’ve been watching both Nobody Wants This and Love is Blind 7. Two very different views of love! Adam Brody is adorable.

Off work today. Sending the kids to their grandma so I can do chores/pack for our trip. It is very likely I will do none of the chores that I’ve saved for this week and just read a book instead.
I got an AMAZING vintage wool sweater at the thrift store. Now I need to figure out how to wash it really carefully.
We went to DH's uncle's wedding on Saturday late afternoon/evening. I think it was the first time we've seen family from that side in years (tells you how close we are to them), but it was nice to catch up and for our kids to see that side of the family. DH's dad now has Santa Claus hair and a beard. So we will see if DH has snow-white hair when he's in his 60s. If he does, it might be a good side-gig for him in November-December, ha ha.
Trying to get motivated to work...not easy on a Monday, especially when it's a beautiful fall day.
I am thinking of all the people in FL in the path of Hurricane Milton. Praying it ends up being not as catastrophic as they are thinking.

I tried to do "cool girl" waves this morning and didn't nail it. For once in my life I'm going to keep trying rather than giving up if I'm not immediately good at something. lol
Sunday morning DD, a friend of hers, and I went to a local pottery painting place and it was so fun! Eight year old girls are a riot.
This morning started with DH nailing a deer on his way to work at 4 am. I had to go rescue him and DS1 who was with him to go to an appt before school since truck isn't drivable. Have been helping to deal with insurance this morning. We spent all afternoon yesterday rescuing my parents who broke down on their way home from our house. I am hoping the fact my car is in for tires this morning makes the third vehicle related incident. I really don't want anything else to break.

I went to the Phillies game on Saturday with my nephew. Even though they didn’t win, I’m so sore from cheering and screaming. And last night I was trapped in my kitchen watching on my phone bc the rally started while I was cooking dinner. I ate my chicken in white wine sauce hunched over the sink like a rat all in the name of baseball. I kind of feel almost as responsible for the win as Nick Castellanos 🤣
And yeah don’t worry, I’ll never go to another postseason game again.
School has already been cancelled Wednesday and Thursday. We are trying to decide if we should put up our hurricane shutters. It's probably the smart thing to do but man it is so much work. And my husband currently isn't able to do much so it will mostly fall on me. I hope they give us some time off work to prepare.
I went to Publix yesterday to pick up the cake for my daughter's birthday party and it was slam packed. There were no carts available! I've never seen that before.

I have an interview on Friday for a management position. I've been doing a few things this summer which are pseudo management (as a support to our new staff) and enjoyed it so figured I'd try to see if I could get the position. It would be part manager and part counsellor. We'll see if I get it and then see if I like it.
H and I are trying to make sure we take a walk every day and we've been successful almost every day for the last month (or maybe a little longer) and it's been great. Not only for our health but as a time that we can connect. Even if we don't talk a lot just hanging out has been really good for us. We're discovering so many cool trails really close to us and it is amazing how much I didn't realize was so close to us! We're going to have to figure out how best to keep up with this when it gets really cold or wet/snowy. There is a church down the road from us that has a free indoor walking track so we certainly can do that but I think I'll miss being outside.
I volunteered this weekend at our campground's haunted hayride. I rode the wagons to chaperone and make sure everyone behaved. My first wagon was an entire 10-12 year old boy's hockey team, with a few adults. They were so fun. They were terrified, but were trying to look cool. My second wagon was 17 teenage girls there for a birthday party. They were screaming and jumping off the hay and huddled up on the floor of the wagon. The actors really played off of them to get so many screams. I can't wait to do it again this weekend. It was so much fun!!

We’re trying to prepare for the hurricane the best we can but this mofo is gonna be real bad. I’m about two hours away from where the hurricane is expected to make landfall and we’re being told to expect power outages for possibly several weeks.
I definitely can’t afford to evacuate and pay a hotel for weeks on end. just crossing my fingers over here, stocking up on cereal and peanut butter.
Hopefully Florida doesn’t break off into the ocean after the Hurricane. Even the dogs I walk know something is coming because every single one of them has been incredibly weird today.
I need ham like water Like breath, like rain I need ham like mercy From Heaven's gate Sometimes ham salad or casserole or ham that’s free range, all natural I need ham
So now that my kids are on the same school schedule and out of the house by 7 am, I really want to find a fitness routine. I was trying to go for the most convenient options, and there is a shopping center near my house with Club Pilates, Orange Theory, hot yoga, and a couple barre studios.
Priced them out this morning, and the sticker shock is real. Holy crap.
I would actually still be willing to try Club Pilates, but looking at their schedule, almost every class for the next month is waitlisted. I definitely wouldn't want to commit to them and then realize that I can't use the classes that I paid for bc the schedule is full.
I really wish that I had the discipline to just do online workouts, but unfortunately I do not.

WWYD
A $13.00 charge showed up on my AmEx CC from my favorite neighborhood Thai restaurant for a day that I did not dine there (was actually oot.) I wanted to give them the benefit of the doubt before I disputed the charge and called them and inquired about it. They told me they didn't have a record and to go ahead and dispute which I did. I said I did not recognize the charge. (I wasn't there that day, didn't eat there, and it's besides the point but our bill is usually closer to $50-75, never ever exactly $13.)
I just got a letter back from AmEx saying I'm responsible; it was a "mail order" which means I gave my CC# over the phone. That didn't happen (and my CC was never left behind.) WWYD? It's $13 so not a huge amount and it really is one of our favorite places to eat; we probably go 1x month. On the flip side, it's $13 that I shouldn't have to pay.
I'm thinking of taking the AmEx letter to them and have them show me the order? Or would you just let it go?
There was a fight between parents at C's football game yesterday. So shameful. It was the group that played before C, so 1st and 2nd graders. Just ridiculous. The kids were perfectly well behaved. It was a handful of parents who ruined it for everyone.
