Why is it that what I want to be on sale for prime day is never on sale? I was hoping to score another nicer pool float cheap since summer is over, but nope.
I quit my job yesterday. I’m now officially unemployed. I haven’t been unemployed since I started working, so I’m kind of freaking out, but I’m also tremendously relieved because I couldn’t take it for one more day. My grad school classes start soon, so I’ll be doing that with my time, but it’s an odd feeling to not have a work phone to check and to have all of my time be my own.
I’m so grateful that we’re in the position to allow me to take this break from working…I’ll start looking for a new job as I get closer to completing my master’s program, but for now I’m free, and I don’t know what to do with myself! It’s a little unsettling. I don’t know how to relax!

I woke up at 3:30 this morning and couldn't get back to sleep. I shopped on Amazon, which was probably a bad idea, but I bought some gifts for upcoming events.

How long is grad school arielroux? I hope you enjoy it as much as your newfound extra freedom! Hope this is a great time to reset and shift to what will bring you joy.
Congrats, arielroux! I quit a job I hated without a new one lined up and it was the best feeling to peace out and leave all that stress behind. I felt really weird about being unemployed at the time but I gave myself a few months to recover and in hindsight, it was one of the best times of my life. The freedom to just be was really awesome. I was hoping to figure out what my passion was, but turns out I really enjoy doing nothing LOL.

Thank you! I’m so looking forward to it!
As for how long it’ll take, truthfully, it’ll depend on how many classes I decide to take per semester, but I’m guessing it’ll be anywhere between 12-18 months. I’m starting with one class because I haven’t been to school in AGES, so I don’t want to overwhelm myself from the jump. But since I won’t have to work on top of taking classes, I imagine I’ll be able to take at least two courses going forward. Plus, my program has an option for two “intensives” where we can knock out an entire course in 3 full 9-5 days, so I’ll probably take advantage of those options, as well. Fingers crossed!
We decided to put up our hurricane shutters. It should only be a Cat 1 by the time it gets to us, but every forecast for the past two days has the eye coming right over top of us. Last night and this morning we did the upstairs windows. Now we are taking a break so I can go to my therapy appointment lol, then this afternoon I will start on the downstairs. It is so dark in here with all the shutters up.
My work will be closed tomorrow and thursday. But instead of giving us the days off like they did in the past, now they are saying we can just telework. Until we lose power...
I have an interview today at noon. I'm nervous. I've been doing desk jobs my whole life. I need something different, so I applied to be an assistant manager at a convenience store chain. I think it could actually be fun, but I have zero experience, so I really need to sell myself, which I'm not great at doing. I have very low self esteem.
DD has two tests today in the two classes that she is most struggling in. She is a difficult kid; we wanted to help her study, but she refuses to accept help. It breaks my heart because I think, deep down, she believes that she isn't smart enough to understand and doesn't want other people to see that. But I know she is fully capable if she would just ask questions and spend some time at home working on it. Anyway. This all blew up last night, there was a lot of yelling and running away and she spent an hour in the treehouse in the dark avoiding us.
DS, bless him, just... refused to take no for an answer. He is basically the only person on earth that she would let get away with it. But when she finally came in from the treehouse, he chased her into her room, sat with her, and basically just told her that she had to show him what she's doing.
He spent over an hour with her, studying for both tests, and also answering questions about using Canvas.
We didn't ask him to do it; he was actually sick, exhausted, and had his own homework to finish. He did it to be nice, not just to her, but also to me because he knows how badly I want to help her.
It really meant a lot to me and I am so incredibly grateful. I keep tearing up thinking about it.
Had our parent teacher conference for the kid last night. She's a "top of the class student who needs to write more neatly and slow down so she stops making silly mistakes." This tracks.
Awwww jinkies, what a sweet brother! Sounds like you are raising a wonderful young man <3
My kids have been getting along really well lately (13DD, 15DS) and they said they are each others best friends. My sister and I don't speak or have a relationship so it especially hits me in the feels. I hope they can always be close and rely on each other.
calamity , this is one thing I appreciate about DS not having a huge social life. I mean, he does have a social life, but it is not out all weekend type. He spends a lot of time with his sister, and while they actually still fight a lot, I am happy that they spend a lot of time together and prefer each other over certain people.

None of the stuff I had in my Amazon cart is cheaper, and one of them the price actually went up. I'm trying to embrace the natural wave of my hair so it's mostly curly hair products, root clips, and a curling tension brush, so nothing super exciting.
Mooks, did your kid do anything to prepare to take the PSAT? Ds, who has ADHD and is terrible at being responsible for his own important stuff, is registered to take it next week. Someone posted in our local fb group asking about what kind of calculator kids should bring for it, and someone responded with a link to the directions talking about how there is one built in to the program they can use, but it's not intuitive, and if they plan to use it, they should practice with it beforehand. But there was no link to a 'practice' psat or anything they could actually use to practice with it.
I asked ds to try to listen to the announcements this week and see if he's supposed to be 'practicing' for the PSAT, even if it's just to understand the program or whatever, but I doubt he will.
But considering the PSAT is a practice for the SAT, I also can't decide how much effort I should put in MAKING him make sure he's well-prepared for it.

I dropped my kittens off at the vet this morning to be spayed and I'm a nervous wreck. They had given me a "comfort pack" which was basically just 2 doses of Gabapentin per cat, and while it barely effected Zoe, Fiona was basically catatonic. At one point I was actually afraid for her because she was so out of it. Praying she doesn't have any issues with the anesthesia. One of my dogs has a hard time with anesthesia and after her spay surgery they had a really hard time waking her up so I'm really nervous for my girl.

no there’s zero need to practice for the PSAT. The only people I know who did had very high achieving students and they wanted to go for a national merit scholarship.
My older son has taken the SAT and PSAT on the computer and didn’t say anything about the calculator not being intuitive. Also I’m pretty sure they can still use their own calculator if they want

Good luck! I sometimes dream of doing something like this, too, so I hope it works out for you! I'd love to hear if it does. Doing something more hands on sounds wonderful!
expectantsteelerfan, DD didn't prepare for the PSAT, it wasn't even on our radar but I wish she had since there are scholarships available based on it that we didn't know about. It wouldn't have mattered anyways because her school computer malfunctioned during it and she missed most of it trying to get it fixed.
Anyways, I'd advise your son to get familiar with the DESMOS calculator if he has time: www.desmos.com/scientific
I'm in a fight with a woodpecker. At first, it was cute, but I'm about two seconds away from extinguishing Woody from this earth. We've tried decoy owls and filling in his spots and hanging reflective shit and he gives no fucks. And do not even come in here telling me he's looking for termites. I cannot. I will burn the house down. WHY WON'T HE JUST MIGRATE?
jinkies , awww, that is so sweet. I'm sorry your DD is struggling and it must be so hard that she won't accept your help. But wow, what an amazing DS you have. And you have obviously done a wonderful job raising them. I love stories of siblings taking care of each other.
My girls get along really well (most of time LOL!), but they are still so young (6 and 9). I hope they stay close. My sister and I are very close but there is a lot of sibling rivalry there and I think it comes from how my parents treated us growing up. I really hope I'm not doing the same to my kids.

Welp, we just an email from the high school about those taking the PSAT being required to complete a 'digital readiness check' tomorrow during a certain time frame, so now I feel more confident that that is all the preparing he'll need to do. Now to keep fingers crossed he actually does it.

I found out that items in your cart maybe on sale if you click to the actual page of item. The cart doesn't reflect some deals. Also, I found out that a lot of my subscribe & save items were much cheaper with prime day vs. waiting for my monthly order.
