This worked. What’s up with the trash bags in the window? What are they trying to hide?
The trash bag falls down and you can see them switch drivers. I suspect the person driving has lost his license or doesn’t have insurance, and they planned to switch without her seeing. But when they reversed into her vehicle, it fell. Super sketchy.
wanderingback Yes, it was hiding who was driving the car. You can see the guy with the hat switching to the passenger side to exit & both sets of hands in the back seat pushing the black bag back up. It’s harder to see the woman climb to the front/driver’s seat. What’s even crazier is that the victim had a rear camera too and tracked the red Kia behind her. It tailed her 100%. Then it stopped behind her and then pulled around both cars. And then the actual scammer driver got in the red Kia and they drove away!
ABC News in NY covered the story on air & interviewed the dash cam driver. So, I’m thinking it’s a real event caught on video.
We have two electric cars from different makers that both have cameras built in, but I never really thought about the utility of the cameras much until this post.
Yes, I have for a couple of years. I don't have TikTok so I don't know anything about the viral video. People around here drive fucking nuts- run stop signs, run red lights ALL THE TIME. I'm a very safe driver so would like to protect myself. Also, I've complained about it before on here, but kids are now all over the place with those electric scooters zipping in and out of traffic, no helmets, not following traffic laws. If anything happens, again, I want to protect myself.
And kids walking in front of cars because they have headphones on/earbuds in and are scrolling on their phones. I saw a teen almost hit by a bus doing that a couple weeks ago. My windows were up and radio on and I could hear the crossing guard screaming at this kid to stop and look out and the kid never reacted and never was aware of what happened.

My H has a dash cam for his bike. London is already crazy to drive in or bike in and, like so many places, too many pedestrians are either not paying any attention or, if tourists, don't remember to check the road in the right direction before starting to cross.
We don't really drive, other than to take my dog to the groomers and to do a once in a grand while shop at an actual big grocery store, so we don't have a dash cam for our car.

I don’t have one. But, my nephew, who was on the (all volunteer) rescue squad had one because on a volunteer squad most responders take their personal vehicles to calls so it’s required. It came in useful when he was in an accident while driving his 11 y/o cousin to school. It basically showed the entire accident and that he was not at fault. My niece (his cousin who he was driving) unfortunately passed away as a result of that crash. It was very early in the morning in a very rural and sparsely populated area so no real time witnesses, just someone who drove by a few minutes after. The dashcam footage was very helpful in that we didn’t have to endure a long drawn out investigation.
Yes, because someone was asking on a local FB page of anyone had witnessed a hit and run while at the mountain during ski season. It was a super shitty story and I decided then they might make sense, especially with this really terribly designed merging area I have to drive through to get home from work.
We have Garmin Minis. Reasonably priced, you can turn off the cameras ability to record you, ability to verbally tell it to take a picture, and super tiny.
Our vehicle has a camera that will record if I honk or brake hard suddenly, so we just use that. I think if I didn't have that, I totally would. People are crazy.
