I ordered a half bushel of my favorite apples really cheaply from this place that sells & distributes food from local farms mostly to restaurants but also regular people with a fairly high minimum order. I had to order a ton more produce to make that minimum so if anyone needs a winter squash…
At least I got them and don’t have to keep looking for them. Soon enough I will have my annual tangerine hunt to deal with lol
What kind of apples?
We got to a local farm every year and I'm disappointed in the varieties they were picking this year (honeycrisp, ludacrisp and empire). Last year the apples we got were so good, we ate 10 lbs of apples in like 2 weeks! This year they are sitting in the fridge and no one wants them. Which led to me finding this hilarious website that ranks apple varieties. I do not agree with their rankings, but it was amusing. Apparently I'm in the minority in not liking honeycrisps.
We are apple people, so I found that link hilarious. I also don't like honey crisp, but apparently I'm not qualified to answer because my FAVORITE apples are Macintosh. I know I'm in the minority with that one. I also like a good golden delicious every once in a while. I do like the sweet tango ones that they ranked #1, and I also like a snap dragon and sugar bee one every once in a while. My kids, who literally eat apples every day, like old standbys though. DD likes gala or Fuji, and ds loves granny Smith.

For all of the steps forward 15yo has had - today was a step backward. Apparently her school did a "flowers for friends" thing during a homeroom when she wasn't there, but they were all passed out today during 3rd period. All of her friends got one but her.

Why are we still setting kids up in this way?
I still vividly remember the dread on the days those types of things were passed out. I can’t believe they still do them, your poor DD.

Regarding apples: Envy and granny smith are the only varieties I will willingly eat. McIntosh and gala are good if they're good, but I feel like I have as good of a chance as finding a 'good' red delicious in stores these days.
I bought three granny smith apples last week thinking they would be my snack for the week. Felt nice and firm/heavy. But inside they were just mealy red delicious 😑
My random: I got a super weird voice-mail a couple of weeks ago that made me think someone hacked it. (Apparently they can get into your voice-mail and use it to run up your bill making long distance calls. The motive? Your guess is as good as mine 🤷♀️ the sign? Voicemails that are just clicks spaced about 1sec apart.)
So I set up a password for my vmail account. And I didn't write it down because I made it a pattern that I was 100% certain I could remember. I've gotten about ten of the clicking vmails since then. And yesterday my phone took an update and restarted...
Guess who can't remember the password to their vmail? 🙃
I love honeycrisp. McIntosh are mushy. I wonder if this is #regional.
I only use granny smith for baking.
I don’t think McIntosh are great storage apples so the grocery store ones can be mushy unless they are super fresh and grown nearby.
Accurate. Source: I grew up with an apple orchard. The fresh McIntosh were on the softer side but not mushy or mealy. They didn't hold super well though.
Tonight is DS's last football game of the season. I don't think we've ever had a football season where every game day the weather was beautiful. No complaints on that from me.
Yesterday DH dropped MIL off and picked her up from her 3-hour long cognitive test. Apparently she goes back today for the results, but DH isn't available to take her, so MIL's sister is going to take her. (Although I am a little surprised that she didn't ask DH to take her to the results appointment, and her sister to do the drop off/pick up yesterday, as it feels like it's more important for DH to be at the results appointment.) I'm hoping they will give her an official diagnosis of dementia so that we can get started with the Medicaid waiver for a memory care facility and also get her on a waiting list to move into a memory care facility.
Can your DH be there by being on speakerphone? Like, can MIL's sister call your DH and have him listening in on speakerphone so he can interject and ask questions that way? Hope that's helpful!

They don't sell many of the American apples over here (makes sense). My fav is Granny Smith followed by Pink Lady. There are some that are sold by the local farmers which don't have the name on it and I like those as they are typically freshly picked (only sold in season).
