I knew that Halloween was coming up, but I just realized that it is almost Halloween, if that makes sense. Like, I can't believe that it is almost November. I really hope that the Holiday Season isn't as much of a blur as these last few months have been.

We had a water main break on our street this morning so no water. Thank goodness H and DS showered after hockey last night and we had bottled water to brush teeth and wash hands. We live on a main road with buses running to the city so my commute is a mess. Hopefully I won’t be too late and we have water back by the end of the day. If we don’t I already told H we are going one town over and getting a hotel room. This used to happen in our city regularly, but it hasn’t happened in a while.
lavenderblue, yesterday at the doctor I was checking out and she goes "ok she wants you back in 2 months" and then I went "well that's Christmas, OMG" and we both realized just how close it is.
I got my flu shot last night and whoah does it hurt. My doc said to get that one first because one of the meds increases my chance of infections and then said to do Covid at the beginning of December once I had a few doses of the new meds in. She doesn't think anything will react, but just in case.

Trick or treating got moved to Wednesday here due to weather. I feel very unprepared for that even though it's just one day and technically I have everything.
We're now just over 3 weeks away from getting married and time seems to have flown. I ordered a dried bouquet of wild flowers and they came in yesterday and are gorgeous.
Stepdaughter got hurt over a week ago, it looks like a broken ankle and torn meniscus. Through a connection we were able to get her in to an ortho 2 days later, but the ortho said she was too swollen for images. The soonest they can get us in for images is Nov 5th and the soonest we can get back in with the ortho is Nov 13th. The swelling has decreased, but not gone away and she still can't put any weight on the knee or ankle. I hate to do it, but I think I'm going to take her to the ortho ER tonight to see if they'll do images for us and hopefully get some answers. The other ortho mentioned surgery. I hate that she's sitting in pain and waiting 3 weeks for help.

DD’s soccer teammate tore here meniscus and it took almost 2 months for her to get surgery because of how booked up they were. Craziness! It is a shame when people have to wait for answers or are in pain

It is supposed to be a high of 79 degrees here on Halloween. Every other day last week and up until then is "normal" for this time of year. I want to wear my cozy Halloween sweatshirt to work! It's only good for one day a year!
I made a mistake at work and I feel really stupid. Long story short, we have this big State audit of the program I run and I thought it was scheduled for today. My team had to prepare their files for this and we were ready! Turns out that it got rescheduled until November 21st and I somehow overlooked that. I even responded to the invite so it's on my calendar but I totally blanked on it. I guess the good thing is is that we are prepared, but I just want it to be over and so does my team. Ugh. The first of I'm sure many blunders of mine as a supervisor.
My in laws are making plans to return to their home country permanently (and soon) and they told me this weekend and devastated doesn't begin to describe how I feel about it. The care for my FIL (Alzheimers) is too burdensome for my MIL and their finances to bear here. I would literally do anything to stop this from happening (like sell our homes and buy one we can all live in together; H says no). I cannot explain how much I love them and how much having them near us means to me. đŸ˜¢
My anxiety over this won't let me sleep and I was up at 5am making pan suisse au chocolat.
followyourarrow, yay for your wedding being so soon! I feel like THAT came up really quick - can't wait to see pics and hear about it!
Speaking of medical care being difficult, it sounds like my sister (who has had a lot of health issues in the last 2 years) is finally seeing some improvement. She moved to Houston area to live with my parents, and it seems like she has better doctors and that they are more proactive. The ones she had in Denver took forever to do anything and basically just shrugged at her while she was suffering, but the one she has in Houston seems actually helpful. She may even be digesting some food now! She is still on a feeding tube indefinitely, but they are removing the bloodstream nutrition she's been using for the last year since she doesn't seem to need it anymore.
I had a fantastic workout this morning, PR'd a bunch of machines and felt really good. I had switched to listening to books for a while and went back to angry rap music today and it really helped.
It smells like a camp fire outside, which is nice and fall-ish...but it's because the whole state is on fire (MA).
Random but does anyone have a curling iron they love that’s easy for a beginner? DD wants one for her birthday. Looking for one under $50 if possible.

I am so sorry sproctopus. With distance and cost, how often do you think you will be able to see them once they move? Is your MIL good with tech, will they be able to facetime?

Beachwaver for sure. Just wait for a sale.
Or a refurbished one. I've had my $49 refurbished one for years.

They will be moving back to a remote farm/village in Africa. She is good with technology, but the infrastructure for that does not exist there. And I want them in our village. They mean so much to us and our son.
I have traveled every one of the last four weeks and am now looking forward to settling into the holiday season at home. Got an email yesterday that my kid's Halloween costume will arrive November 10th - we ordered September 30th. So I need to do something about that quickly.
Guys, sometimes I seriously wonder how XH gets through the day. C has a cheer competition this weekend. It's about half an hour away, so not too bad. The coach just posted on the app that they rented a hall for all the kids to get ready and then put the time parents can pick up and form a "car train" to head up to the comp. XH starts texting me that he doesn't understand how they can put all these kids on a train without telling parents ahead of time. Is it like an Amtrak train? Or like an MBTA train? I had to tell him that the coach didn't mean a LITERAL train. She meant everyone picks up their own kid and heads to the comp together. Not literally attached to each other, just in the same general vicinity. Is it me???

The temp today where I am is supposed to be almost 80 degrees. I pulled back out a pair of linen-blend pants so I don't sweat to death when I leave the office this afternoon.
Definitely feeling the October-was-a-crazy-blur. But it turns out that November is going to also be a madhouse. DD1 is doing lights for the HS fall play mid-month, DD2 is still running XC because she got bumped up to varsity and is an alternate for districts/regionals/states, so she won't wrap up until mid-November, either. Then DD1 goes straight into swim season.
We get like, one week of relative normalcy and then straight into Thanksgiving and December madness.
I really thought that once DD1 wrapped up rec volleyball and work, and DD2 wrapped up XC, then we'd get a breather before the holidays. Sigh. I did not account for the crazy play schedule (which just came out yesterday) or DD2 having a cross-country post-season as a freshman!
My kids are really trying my very last nerve. Sometimes I worry the stress will straight up give me a heart attack. Teenagers are not for the faint of heart, DAMN
Speaking of time moving quickly... do you ever reflect on the relativity of time? For example, when you were a kid and had lived fewer days, how much more slowly time seemed to move? One example that always comes to mind for me is it seemed like an interminable wait between seeing a movie in the theater and it being released on VHS. In reality, that wait was probably 6 months or so, but it felt like an eternity. Now, in my late 30s, 6 months seems like nothing. But... then I look forward and wonder how much faster time is going to race in another 20 years?

sproctopus, I'm sorry! That sounds so hard. I am glad you have that kind of relationship with them though.
My tennis team won our first two playoff matches this weekend and I played really well. Had hard battles and won both of my matches in close sets. Also got to play with a much younger, nice, athletic partner. That helped a lot! She played D1 lacrosse in college. One of our matches was three sets too and one in a tie breaker. We came back from 3-6 to win 6-4 6-4. So glad I found this sport during Covid. I'm obsessed. Also obsessively checking to see if I'll be in the line up next week for semi finals.
I have all kinds of fear about the election, luckily I've already voted and I'm playing tennis and working next Tuesday so I'll just try to keep myself busy. I also am excited to go trick or treating with my school age nieces but I have no halloween t-shirts so off to browse Amazon like everyone else today...

Just make sure to get one with heat settings. We bought SD a cheapie travel size, but there are no heat settings, and she fried her hair.
What do 9-year old boys like? I struggle with presents for my three nephews-- one is turning 9 next month. We see them once a year at most so we don't really "know" them. It has to be something I can mail to an APO mailbox (sending directly from Amazon is easiest).

For David at that age, it was all Legos and Minecraft.
