DS turns 7 today! We have a busy day ahead so I DoorDashed us Starbucks.
At least this horrific week is ending on a good note.
Update: We had the best time! DS had a blast at his party with his friends. I got to chat with my new friend (still feel so lame, but she and her fam and just lovely) and this kid hit the jackpot with gifts.
DH is on a plane home! Other than one week home mid Sept, and one weekend spent entirely out of state at his sister's wedding, he's been out of town for work since the end of August. Beyond just missing him, I am SO ready to not be the only adult/driver in the house.
My grocery store's pick up order system is down, so I actually have to go shop in person this morning. FWP 🙄

Happy birthday, E!
I slept forever last night and the kids are still asleep (8:45 am!). I have some odds and ends to get done this weekend, but I also have some friend time in there. What a crappy week indeed.
We still had our giant 12 foot skeleton in the front yard because this week took it all out of me and he brings we so much joy. Last night punk kids came into our yard and knocked it over (not easy to do!) and he’s broken DH heard the commotion and went out to catch them but was too late. Our dog was useless and slept through it all lol. I’m so sad.
I’m in NYC and I feel there’s no better place to be after this horrific week. Last night we ate/drank on the sidewalk in Hells Kitchen and loved how everyone (for now) were still comfortable on the streets just being who they are.
We see Swept Away tonight and Cabaret tomorrow, which is more timely than we expected.

I’m so sorry. I’m sad for you. Those skeletons make me smile so much.
H and I are going out on a day date while my mom watches our kids. Our date is to go look at house finishes for a possible new build lol. Adulting to the fullest. Hopefully we can grab a drink when it’s done before coming home.
It’s bazaar day!!! I slept like shit due to stress & someone turning the heat up to 70 after the last time it kicks down, so it was 70 at midnight! My weekend to do list includes adjusting the settings so it’s warm enough earlier so we don’t turn it up later. And then posting a “don’t touch or risk death” sign
I’m making a coffee run for me and the person helping put out balloons, and then it is GO time! I’m going to remember water this time, as I’ve forgotten every other time, and it suuuuucks.
If you’re the praying type, please pray I don’t spend too much. Bahahahaha! J/K I’ll do what I want. 😂

devonpow that really sucks to have something you enjoy ruined and also those skeletons aren't cheap. When I first read your post and saw punk kids, I was imagining actual punk and thought you were going to say they spray painted it....your reality was much worse.

Glad I took DS2 back to the doctor yesterday, he has pneumonia. Started antibiotic last night. Hoping that cough decreases soon and he starts eating more. He missed all last week of school, dreading his having to make up the work.
DS1 is at CX practice this AM. It's out at his coach's house on a lake. Coach told them they can pick their distance today. DS1 and a teammate are doing 10 miles. I predict he will want a warm shower (it's cold out), food, and a nap. He is getting a to do list for straightening up and decluttering his room, but he can do that tomorrow if he prefers.

Are you sure it wasn't the wind? My neighbors 12 ft skeleton falls over every time the wind kicks up, including last night.
The wind woke me up around 3am and my sleep never really recovered. I kept hearing a noise I couldn't make sense of. I think it was the plastic doggie pool getting blown around. I found it very far from its usual location when I went outside.
I just shredder about a year's worth of junk mail. Dealing with paper mail is one of my most hated chores, so it's good to put it behind me for a while.
My husband’s surgery went well! They bumped him from being the first surgery of the day and were running many hours behind so it was a very long day. But we are back home and he made himself oatmeal this morning. We took the week off per the doctor’s advice so hopefully that will be uneventful and healing?
devonpow - I’m so sad for you! Is he totally destroyed? A piece of ours broke and we were able to find a replacement on Etsy. They are also like 75% off if you can manage to find one in stock. Someone destroying him is my biggest fear. I’m so sorry ☹️

the head came all the way off and the connection thing broke, so his eyes won’t work. , and unsure if we can get the head back on. Unclear on the rest of it, we have to examine it later
My kid just told me she would rather do math homework than go look at sneakers because her feet grew again.
Really, who is this child?
is she in the larger side for her age? She may not want to be facing the reality of it.
I'm the opposite. I convinced my parents to buy size 8 so I could be like my peers. I'm actually 6.5 although I was convinced for years 7, maybe 7.5 which was appropriate for my height. But I'm not a parent so should be ignored

lol. My daughter would probably be the same. She does actually care about her footwear so she could be bribed with Starbucks but clothes? Forget it. She’d rather do homework.
I don’t get it. I would have jumped at any chance for shopping as a teen!
I should get up and go to the gym. I don’t want to, but I know I’ll feel better for it.
Grabbing coffee with a friend after where we’ll probably sit and cry and wonder about the state of this country.
Aside from that, we have zero weekend plans and I’m very happy about it. Will probably take the kids sledding this afternoon. DS1 has a birthday sleepover, but that’s just a quick drop off. Planning to spend a lot of time relaxing and maybe organize a few things I’ve been meaning to get to.
I'm volunteering at a mock interview event today. I am asking questions and giving feedback on answers. I feel a bit like a fraud since what do I know? Lol.
Update on my H: H was having an anxiety/panic attack yesterday morning so I told him he needed to see a dr and get some meds asap. I stayed home from work to make that happen. We went out to breakfast, went for a walk and binged ted lasso before I took him to his dr appt. It took a lot of back and forth phone calls with the on call nurse to make that appt happen yesterday instead of waiting until Monday. If they would've made him wait until Monday for that appt I would have taken him to the ER. Instead we had meds in hand by 5pm and he took some last night and will continue forth on the meds, seeing his counselor and following up with the dr. He got a dr's note to get out of work for a week and that can be extended if needed. He also got a note to get him out of jury duty because he was supposed to start that on the 18th. I work 4 minutes away for home and I'll be talking with my boss & supervisor on Tuesday to let them know that I might need to drop everything and book it home at a moments notice or take days off with little notice or planning in the coming weeks.
Thanks for all the support and information everyone who provided that yesterday.
ETA: I'm not supporting H on my own. H and my friends know he's struggling as well as H's family and my twin sister. I'll loop my parents and other sisters in this weekend. My twin sister dropped everything to pick DS up from school yesterday so I could take H to his dr appt and get his meds.

She’s tall and already my height. I’m not surprised her feet are now bigger than mine.
It’s more that she just doesn’t want to spend the time looking.
One of my college roommates passed away this week. My H is oot for another friend’s memorial service. This week was just really shitty.
Ready for some good news and happier times.
I am going on a distillery tour today that was planned months ago, but other than that I don’t have any plans. Going to sleep in tomorrow and just watch movies etc with the kids.
UPS delivered one of our orders to our neighbors (we are always getting each other's stuff even with clearly marked addresses) and before I realized it they brought it over- with their brand new Itty bitty puppy! I think I may have actually smiled (like really big).
This is still an incredibly stupid week, but puppy kisses are powerful stuff.
Another birthday party - DS is turning 8 on Monday and we had 14 kids at our small house. It was total chaos, but everyone seemed to have fun. Most parents basically threw their kids on our porch and left without a hello lol (which was fine, I didn’t have room for 14+ adults, but it was kind of funny). Shout out to tiki who stayed and had mimosas with me and helped manage the mayhem!

I’m debating on turning my watercolor paintings into gift wrap. There is a local print shop that allows custom gift wrap. I spoke with them and they can do this. I will hand craft a few matching gift tags.
So my question. If you were given a roll of gift wrap and matching gift tags as a gift from a coworker would you enjoy it? I was debating on doing this with a bag of chocolates for my team. I am not sure if it would be as appreciated by everyone. I would be thrilled, but I’m an lover of handmade items

I would love it but I too am a weirdo who can’t wait to go pick out my paper for this year.

I would love this. I’m always looking for new, fun, pretty gift wrap, so this would be right up my alley!
