DS1 is SO sick. He has a terrible cough, fever and chills, body aches and just feels rotten. I’m going to take him to the doctor for seeing he has the flu. Pertussis is also going around his school, which seems so random. Who gets that anymore?
I'm sorry your son is sick. And also, this is one of the vaccines that the idiots don't get, so it's coming back. Going to be super fun for all the families in the US with RFK Jr. in charge making sure measles and plenty more come back too.
we had a pertussis outbreak at our high school last June - started on the crew team and then spread quickly. Our school has a 99% vaccination rate, too. For most kids it was just a bad cough that wouldn’t go away. My friend’s daughter went to thr dr and they said it was no big deal. Then when they realized she was in a class with a few of the pertussis kids they took her back and got her tested. Yep, whooping cough.
I am so tired today. But I got up and got a 5 mile run in before work, so I guess it's worth it?
I have a meeting in a few hours that's just "quick team check in". These types of meetings almost always mean someone is leaving (or being forced to leave), but I CANNOT figure out who it is. I asked my boss about it when it was put on our calendars yesterday, but he was in the dark too. Sure, he could just not be telling me, but that's not how he rolls, haha. And, if it was HIM leaving, I have a suspicion I would know simply b/c I'm the next highest ranking employee so at least temporarily I'd have to do some things to help out.
Only 2 more hours to ponder what's going on, haha.
Quoting myself, because yes, someone was forced to leave. I'm not overly surprised either. it was b/c they were trash talking the company to our clients. Which, WHY?! That feels like something you'd just KNOW not to do, especially multiple decades into your career. I guess the only surprising part is they didn't know better? But jeez.

Pretty sure I already said this Monday but I'm so annoyed that this week isn't Thanksgiving. I'm so ready for the break.
As I talked about ad nauseum, our cats had fleas recently. Last night we gave them their third monthly dose of the prescription med from their vet. I'm not sure if I should be reupping this for 3 more months or if 3 months is enough to break the flea life cycle (the cats have not been outside and they won't be, but IDK if these little fuckers could still come back?). Thoughts? I'm fine with throwing a little more money at this if it gives me peace of mind.
H is taking off Friday all day and I took off the PM so we could prep for the Friendsgiving we're having Saturday. However, it looks like we might be getting a wintry mix/snowstorm situation and I really hope the district doesn't call a virtual day which would kinda ruin the whole vibe of us being home without DS on Friday lol.

My DS2 had pneumonia 2 weeks ago, that is going around too.

jinkies I see. Yeah that sucks to have some obvious favoritism. I could see if he were single and alone maybe struggling not meeting up with him, but since they see each other often geez.

So last week I had a missed call from an unknown number/assume Spam that went to VM and left me a sexually explicit message. Yesterday I got a text with hearts etc saying they would be at my house in 30 minutes. I keep blocking, but creepy.
DH just texted me that the president his company just stopped by and told DH he's getting a $5000 "on the spot bonus" for his work in helping the company land a huge contract! Amazing.
I send out a survey to all my students asking different questions to get to know them better. When asked about her strengths, one student wrote "being petty." Girl, me too. Let's talk.

I have to have colonoscopies every 5 years and had my second one today. Because I have heartburn, I also had an endoscopy and in addition to another colon polyp, it turns out I also have LA Grade B esophagitis which they biopsied to rule out Barrett’s esophagus. Always something going on with my body.
When they gave me the mouth guard for the endoscopy to help protect my teeth, I joked, “yes, please protect them. It’s the only part of my body that hasn’t rebelled against me at some point.” 😂
Anyway, glad it’s all over. I ate some soup and bread and am going to take a nap.
We are traveling over the holidays and I’m seeing cute travel clothes like Pact. I so want to be that person. Anyone have them? Worth the money or anyone know of a knockoff?
Well, he tested negative for Covid, Flu A and B. His lungs sounded Ok for now so if his cough is getting worse or he still has a fever by Friday and we want a chest X-ray by Friday they will send one in and we can get one. They sent a pertussis test in and we should find out next week. Hopefully even if he’s positive he’s feeling better by then, it stresses both of us out for him to miss school like this!
My H's cousin hosts Thanksgiving every year. We enjoy our day there and are grateful they host but it is always disappointing food-wise, especially because I am vegetarian and can eat very little of what they make. Stuffing is super easy to make vegetarian by using vegetable broth instead of chicken, but they never do. Even the carrots are not vegetarian because they mix them with turkey drippings. Basically, I eat rolls, mashed potatoes, and whatever I bring.
I've never said anything and never expected them to accommodate me. If there's anything I really want, I just make it and bring it myself. But I was a little annoyed when cousin texted me today to ask that I not put seeds or nuts in anything I bring because it upsets her husband's stomach (not allergic). Not a big deal, but they've never once attempted to accommodate me in almost 20 years.

Oof I’d be totally annoyed! I’d respond with “Sure! And as long as we are talking about food accommodations, can you sub vegetable broth into the stuffing? Thanks!”
I was woken up at 3:30am (from a deep sleep) because my dog had somehow gotten herself stuck under our bed?! Our whole bed was shaking and I could hear her nails on the hardwood and was very confused. I had to wake up H to help me get her out because she was kind of wedged under there. Poor old dog, she was probably confused, but also I'm super tired and annoyed. It took me forever to fall asleep again.
jinkies I missed the backstory on your DD and her Uncle, but am so glad you are standing in solidarity with your DD. It's pretty insulting to have to decide and especially this long. Maybe you should just decide and have your own meal at home. I had a couple of mean relatives growing up and my parents were so passive about it and never told them to stop even. It was miserable to be forced around them. Now as an adult I have nearly nothing to do with them.
Thanks. In fairness to my brother, it's not anything personal to him. It's just an availability issue. My parents always have dinner Thanksgiving day with my brother, then a larger gathering that includes us over the weekend.
This year, DD is only available Saturday, my brother is only available Sunday. I should also note that my brother lives next door and sees them almost every day. And my mom guilts me about not seeing us enough. But when push comes to shove, she seems to be leaning heavily toward having the dinner on Sunday so that my brother can come to a second meal within a few days, vs. accommodating my daughter.
H swears that my mom has always heavily favored my brother, but it has gotten a LOT worse in recent years.
This is awful, I'm sorry she's like this! I'd be hurt for my DD.

I would put SO MUCH extra nuts and seeds into whatever you bring. They can't even be minimally accommodating to you? Fuck them.

I still tell people the story I read here years ago. A poster said her sister in law hosted Thanksgiving and went out of her way to not accommodate the poster being a vegetarian. Every dish had meat in it INCLUDING the rolls which were little ham sandwiches stuffed with meat!

Eh, I dunno. I agree that they have been super thoughtless in how they prepare their meal; however, it sounds like OP hasn't ever said anything to them so it's possible that they think she's fine with the arrangement. I think it's great that the cousin is being proactive in communicating her DH's needs and I wouldn't punish them for that. But for sure I'd take the opportunity to say, "I am happy to prepare a nut-free dish. Would you consider switching up your stuffing and carrots recipes so that they are vegetarian?"

Yeah I agree. They are thoughtless, not malicious. I'm sure if I asked, they would accommodate me. Cousin is honestly not a strong cook in the first place so I'm pretty confident I'm not missing out on much, thus I've never asked.

Is it possible they forget you are vegetarian? What do they say when everyone is eating and all you have is rolls and mashed potatoes? That seems so rude! There are so many easy side dishes that can be made vegetarian. I would be mortified if I realized someone could barely eat anything when we invited them to dinner!
Definitely say something since they brought up food sensitivities!!! Perfect opportunity. If they still ignore your dietary needs, they suck.

What would you make as a side for a buffalo chicken stuffed sweet potato? Salad, roasted veggies? I am trying to find some quick and healthy options for the next month during the holiday chaos.
