No. Why do people have to ruin things? Also plenty of people have never seen the musical and haven't listened to the soundtrack beforehand. It's pretty hard to parse through the lyrics if you mostly hear them badly warbled by your seatmate instead of properly enunciated by the character on stage.
Would it be okay to sit in the theater a recite lines to a movie you had previously seen? No. Therefore it’s not okay to sing during a musical. This is the reason I’m hesitant to go see the movie this weekend even though I really want to see it. I don’t want to hear Becky sing it off key 3 rows back.
This is why there are "rowdy" screenings at the Alamo.
Though I'd be less vexed by being singing in a movie theater vs the MONSTERS who sing along at a broadway show.
Ma'am. These tickets are $200+ shut your piehole and let Joshua Henry sing.
i had plenty of people talking through the show a couple weeks ago, explaining the plot to their kids 😠 - “is she wicked yet? Why is she wicked? What just happened?”

I wanted to punch someone at Swept Away two weeks ago. It was like the 10th preview, so only fans of the bands music it was based on knew the lyrics (of which I did) but a) not a concert and b) some of the lyrics/melodies were changed for the BROADWAY show. So not only are you being a disrespectful asshole, you aren’t even doing it right!
Thankfully I didn’t notice it during Caberet at least!
Obviously I’m a no. I’m specifically going at Alamo that has strict no talking rules and at a time that is NOT designated as “kid-friendly” which is when they relax that rule a bit. And I *will* try and get someone kicked out if they’re singing lol
If I was on the jury for the trial of some theatre goer who punched another one in the face for singing during Wicked, I couldn’t say there would be a conviction.

No singing. Totally fine if theaters want to have a “singing allowed” showtime that they advertise for people who want that, but as a general rule shut your mouth please and thank you or wait for the sing a long show.
I want to know who the three people are who think it’s ok to sing along. I will also need them to upload a video of them singing something. I’ll judge whether they should be singing along or not.
I've never seen Wicked. If I do make it to the theater only to have the experience ruined by the obnoxious people singing along... I would have to leave and ask for a refund.
If this is happening so often that they have to put up signs about it, it sounds like an opportunity for theaters to have more than one sing-along showing for the theater kids. This would make it easier to distinguish the other showings are "silent" ones. Theaters could even start a "sing along series" showing old movies with great singable soundtracks.
No be quiet when your watching a regular screening of a movie.
Also, this movie is going to make Avatar money.
I love Wicked, but the enthusiasm around this movie is more than I would have expected. Is it because of Arianna Grande being in it? I can’t figure out why people are so hyped up about it.
Also I’m so glad I learned on here that it is only Part 1. I wouldn’t have known that otherwise. I would have been so pissed if I didn’t know that and it ended on Act 1! I told a friend who is obsessed and already planning to see it multiple times and she didn’t believe me. LOL

The media and merchandising campaign has been bonkers. So many low and high end tie-ins. I think it’s reaching a ton of people who normally wouldn’t be interested or aware of it.

I’ve seen Wicked, I loved Wicked. I really like musicals and theater, but I’m not super into it in a “theater kid” way. I did want to see this in theaters which is rare for me. Anyway, I vaguely knew Cynthia Erivo but I’ve been listening to the sound track all morning and I am completely enamored. She is so freaking amazing.

I think they learned a lot from the Barbie movie. I would expect more and more of this from movies from here on out.
Anyway, I think people should be quiet. I think movie theaters should also offer a sing a long version each day in the early days.
I saw someone say, "We're theater kids, of course we're going to dress in costume and sing!"
The fuck you are, this theater kid will rat your ass out and applaud when they walk you from the theater.
Yeah, I’m a musical theater kid and the REAL ones know how to behave. The others are the ones everyone hated.
YES. Theater kids have some of the biggest hearts but this was the type of thing that I couldn't stand, even when I was fully immersed in that world.
I am looking forward to seeing Wicked and will go to the theater, but I will be so annoyed if I end up near someone signing along.
At the theater where I usher, singing along is not allow and we are supposed to tell people to stop and/or get a house manager if someone is doing that. People are paying to see the performers, not some random audience member!

And this movie is only the first act! Lots more merchandise and ads coming for a while.
No, it is never okay to sing-along or recite lines in a movie. It is expensive to go, so I will complain about singing! I’ve seen TikTok’s of people walking around with a poster board that says no singing. I’ve heard the preview before it starts also says no talking, no cell phones and no singing.
