I need to double check the percentage and how many sessions we get a year but we pay about $500/month for 1 social skills class (not covered) and 1 OT per week.
My stepmom is spreading rumors about me again. I shouldn’t care but it hurts. Especially since these ones are about how I don’t want to celebrate my moms birthday with her this week and how I keep the kids from her. A) my mom is dead so celebrating feels weird B) I just set boundaries with her about what she can say to the kids and she can’t follow that so SHE is the one keeping herself from them.
On the bright side our new built ins look great! I just have to decide what color to paint them (They’re angled because it’s a staircase)
Do they slide in and out on tracks? We did this in our basement we just finished and it’s amazing! I wish we could do it upstairs too (our basement steps are under the other ones so there’s no dead space. Our cabinet guy was intrigued and had never done anything like this and knocked it out of the park.
I’m trying to remind myself that I’m lucky OT for DS1 is partially covered but mad that it’s not covered 100% because there are so many families that can’t afford the $250/mo we still have to pay. Plus another $280 for the social skills group he desperately needs
maudefindlay the middle 2 doors go to 1 big cabinet and the gap is where the drink fridge will go. This is in the dining room (really a big eat in kitchen) so we will use it as our pantry since we turned the pantry in the hall into a computer nook

sadie, is that a swimming lesson just for dogs? I've never heard of that lol.
Yes, lol. It's at a dog training place that also does dog dock diving training/trials. I'm embarrassed to admit a 1/2 hour dog swim lesson is more $$ than a 1/2 hour kid swim lesson.
I really want to do this with my dog but there isn’t anywhere close and she gets carsick
I’d make an effort to go - she’s phenomenal live! Even if you catch only part of the show it’d be worth it.
Ok, I'm doing it. I might have to go alone because I feel like H is going to say he doesn't feel well enough or doesn't want to wear a mask in the heat, he wasn't as excited as me in the first place. And my two good friends here are OOT soooooo
In addition to it being Friday, it's housekeeper day!!! OMG, it's the one day where there is not dog hair and random crap all over the place. I am one of those "We have to clean up for the cleaners!" people and it drives my family nuts and I don't care. Two days a month everything is clean and smells fresh and I LIVE for it. We always pick up dinner on housekeeper day so I can enjoy one night without dishes in my clean house. Ahh... DS is going to be with his dad this week and I won't know what to do with myself. I will be kid free and all I will have to worry about is work. I might have time to finish a book!
kid free means the clean house will last longer too! Enjoy!
I feel so fancy because our custom cabinets and wine fridge are getting installed under the stairs today. I’ve never had anything this big custom built before.
Why won’t my family put dishes in the sink or dishwasher? They are just spread out on our small kitchen counter …
My mom and I were thinking of one of us signing up, but being able to also have groceries delivered to my uncle. We’re all local to each other. He doesn’t drive and sometimes rather than my mom taking him, having food delivered might be a good solution.
Yes. I used to send it to the hotel when H was traveling for work and sent it to a friend with a new baby once.
namasteak, I like the visual space of the first coffee table, I fear the second would weigh the room down.
Much better w/the couches off the wall! Unless you need them, I don't think you need consoles, the empty space is fine. You could probably cheat the couches away from the fireplace a bit too just so they're more centered on the rug.
We don’t need them but I think it would stop the kids & dogs from moving them out of place so much 😂
Ds3 is by far my toughest kid . He legitimately just started liking me and barely listens to me. Probably doesn’t help that DH works from home and steps in a lot. Anyways I just signed him up for 5 days a week preschool at 3yo. I feel bad about how excited I am.
Pulling the couches about 6” away from the wall and moving both cabinets away from the fireplace is already such an improvement. I still need to center the rug, take the shoe rack down, the computer goes back to its room and find the new decor/table .
Has anyone built a console table before? I need something pretty narrow and long to go behind the couches.
We have a similar entryway with the stairs on one side and the living room on the other side, and we have a sectional. While it closes off the space on the one hand, it also sort of defines the living room as a distinct space. And I find it easier to watch TV with the couch facing the TV vs. on the sides. It's a C shape with the tall sections along the back window and the walkway, and the chaise side along the front window.
Good point. ITs so weird to me that the door opens JUST to the side of the stairs. Its off center just enough you can't put a runner down in the "entry area"
I like that your ceiling fan is white, it let's other parts of your room stand out. Young House Love has a fireplace in their bedroom with windows on either side. They put white Bestas on either side and plan to do the built in hack where they add filler pieces to the side and a continuous baseboard along the bottom. Obviously I don't know the measurements of your space, but maybe something you could do and extra storage.
Beyond that I love ny96 furniture placement ideas.
As much as I like the besta idea we have 43.5” of space and the besta units are 23 5/8.
pierogigirl I know all the stuff up there is not the right size but I honestly started to hang stuff all over the house and got frustrated so I stopped Instead of Moving things around🤦🏻♀️
Love the idea of small bookcases - do you think it’s ok if they are only 8” deep? Any deeper would project past the fireplace.
ny96 I like how you have a lamp and plant in front of your windows flanking the fireplace! That’s a great solution to “what do I put there if I move the cabinets”
The rug is actually huge (it goes all the way under each couch) and could rotate to go in front of all the furniture. But that looked weird too.
We are in a 1930s house with only 1 living room which also happens to be our entryway. maudefindlay said to post for ideas so here it goes!
view from stairs View from fireplace
We moved the desk in here for construction of the under stairs storage so it won’t stay but I kind of like how the cabinet looks to the right of the couch.
To the left of the bench is a nook for coats and cubbies for the kids backpacks (still under construction)
I thought about getting rid of the white shoe rack so the other cabinet can be by the front door but then what do I flank the fireplace with? Keep the cabinets by the fireplace and get 2 console tables? Keep the shoe rack and get 1 console table?
New coffee table is on the way (round & black) & Wall decor is on the list too .
I’m open to getting new covers for the couches .
I have rotated the rug so it takes up space in the “entry area” in front of the shoe rack but it looked weird.
The couches could go about 6” away from the wall but any further blocks some of the fireplace and makes tv watching weird.
We had a sectional but it kind of closed off the room so I’m not sure that’s a good idea.
We are painting it a warm white (alabaster or white dove).
And then I got a cordless stick vacuum because we have a golden retriever that sheds a lot so we swiffer the hardwood daily and Skip the rugs. I think this will make keeping everything clean easier : www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B08FF4PD5P/ref=ya_aw_od_pi?ie=UTF8&psc=1
We are painting the living room and the kitchen/dining room but I can’t decide which white paint looks best with our white quartz counters.
I also can’t pick the last bit of furniture we need for the living room. I know what I want but then it’s 2 matching cabinets and another set of 2 matching cabinets and that seems too matchy.
Y’all nothing has changed. I still can’t decorate my house even though this is the 3rd one I’ve owned.
My mom just let me know that 1 of her friends purchased a stroller for me.
I can’t believe this is already beginning :/ I’m grateful, but we live in a 1 bedroom apt for the 1st 6 months of the baby arriving and I do not want people buying us random stuff. Uhhh….
I missed this when I was gone. Big congrats friend!
ETA: I got some nonstick cuisinart pans (need to replacemine) Lots of water bottles since the kids lose them all.the.time. an electric kettle for my mom some play doh stuff for DD picture frames
I have the old version, but only use the low setting.
I was going to splurge on the T3 one, but the reviews say the bristles all get bent easily.
I read reviews after and apparently I’m not the only one. I kept hearing popping sounds when I used it a few times and then I saw sparks. It wasn’t a head full of flames or anything but my hair was singed. Now I have more layers …
Fwiw I also have the second version (with the hard and softer bristles) and noticed no difference in heat settings bc low & medium felt the same
