I have $30 of Kohls cash to spend and can't find anything to spend it on, send help
When this happens to me, I usually buy new socks for whoever in the family needs them. I never think to buy the kids (or myself) new socks, so this is how I keep up with them lol.
We used BEN in several rooms upstairs and even with 3 boys it is holding up well. I'm a 2 coat of paint person so maybe that has to do with it too but we've been happy.
DFW ladies - are y'all ok after that storm? We had a lot of small branches but nothing major. A neighbor had a tree uproot, pulling up their driveway and falling on both cars
H had to go buy a new suit because his didn't fit. I don't know if a suit is Estes Park mountain chic or not but wtf else is a middle aged man supposed to wear to a wedding 🤣. I give him very clear instructions to buy a dark blue or dark grey suit. He has no fashion taste and is well known for making unfortunate choices.
So he goes to the mall. First he texts me a picture of a light grey suit and a grey plaid suit.
Then he calls me and asks what I think about a lighter blue suit because it's 200$ less.
What. The. Hell. would a "lighter blue" suit look like? Why would he think this is a good idea? I told him to stop being cheap and buy either a dark blue or dark gray suit or nothing. He thankfully selected a perfectly normal navy suit.
Then I took DD to target to get shoes for the wedding. She wanted to wear her 3 year old ratty as hell Teva sandals. But she hated everything at target. She tried on a bunch of sandals as well as cute white sneakers. I should have known and planned further ahead. And of course she doesn't already own cute sneakers because her tennis shoes are also ratty as hell but as with her sandals, she insists they are fine and she doesn't need new ones. I told her she could either pick something at Target or wear a pair of my shoes (which she will also hate, but too bad!). She was then in a snit for the rest of the target trip.
Befire we went to Target I made DS try on his outfit (Target Houston White pants and a shirt with his white sneakers). Luckily his was great! But he wanted to wear a ratty hoodie if it was cold (which it probably will be) so I got him a nicer long sleeved shirt at Target to layer if needed.
All I want is us to look like we don't live under a bridge for one afternoon that will be memorialized in photos for decades. Is that too much to ask people?!?
And after all of thar we accidentally all ended up with wedding clothes that are white, navy, and light blue so we are going to look like we all intentionally matched it oh well!
I'm in EP next weekend too! FWIW, I've seen a lot of different outfits at weddings in EP. From suits to casual clothing to hiking gear. It really varies.
My psychiatrist/therapist told me to focus on consciously making a good decision at each meal. Like if I'm about to eat a bowl of carbs, consciously add some kind of protein to mitigate the carbs and help my blood sugar whether it's some yogurt, peanut butter, or chicken. This way I don't have to get overwhelmed by "I have to eat healthy" thoughts and constantly feel like I've failed. I practiced this technique today by controlling myself from not ordering a buttered roll with my coffee. Instead I got a large cup of soup and just finished eating it and feel full for now.
I like to think of this as "something I want and something I need". Its helped a lot!
$1,400/month that does not include household supplies but is 3 meals a day for everyone. We do have 1 meal out with FIL most weeks.
Includes me, DH & 3 boys (10.5, 8.5, 5)
I shop mostly at Costco & Aldi. Once a month I go to the overstock/salvage grocery store. Besides having 4 big eaters in the house, we are gluten free so that increases the cost of things too.
Household supplies are another $120 and the occasional takeout is another $120 too.
Last night, I noticed a strange smell in the house. It’s still here this morning. The problem is, I can’t place it. It’s not stinky trash. It’s not mildew from the wet spring. It’s not mice or dog (though there is dog smell, but this isn’t dog). It’s just off. And it’s annoying me.
A nearby symphony does movies in concert, where they play the movie on the big screen and then the symphony plays the soundtrack live. I haven't gone to one of these yet, but this coming season may be the year to do it! They're doing "Jurassic Park" and "Home Alone," among others. How fun would those be?!
I went to The Little Mermaid here a few years ago and it was AMAZING. Like, I was kind of convinced they weren't even playing it was just the soundtrack because it was SO perfect.
DSO does Harry Potter films regularly and it's so good!
My youngest has preschool graduation tonight. She is so so excited! I am thinking about getting her flowers, that would feel really special to a 5 year old, right?
Our skylight arrived yesterday, we ordered over the weekend when it was on sale at Costco. Set up was super easy, still trying to figure out the best place for it though. Would prefer it hung on the wall, but we don't have the right spot.
I'm 50/50 on whether this will actually help us. I had a white board that I would update every week, yet no one except me would look at it, to be seen if people actually look at this (mainly H).
Idk what the difference is but my boys and H will check the skylight when they wouldn't check the paper calendar/dry erase board.
Ds3 graduates prek tomorrow and the school isn't doing anything since they do graduation for the bridge kinder program. I know it's dumb but I'm so disappointed
I finished painting the ceiling and walls of our bathroom & I'm going to take a break before attempting the touch ups and trim.
We are going to SF in October and staying at The Lodge in The Presidio. Our family of 5 can fit in the suite and the location is perfect for the wedding we are attending.
Ds1 tried out for destination imagination yesterday and they haven't even told the kids/parents when they will find out if they made it. He didn't make the team last year and has had a rough few weeks socially so I'm crossing my fingers for him.
My CRP levels (a test to monitor inflammation) almost doubled since January. Overall I am feeling better so I'm waiting to hear what my doctor thinks that means.
Also, why hasn't her gymnastics place put out their summer camp schedule yet? It's MAY.
DS2s wrestling team hasn't announced any camps or even practice times for the summer. I'm about to sign him up for the summer with another team for a few weeks of practice/daycamp (only 2hrs a day so not quite a daycamp).
My rheumatologist is switching me from a once a month injectable med to a weekly one because I kept getting blepharitis flares with the monthly one. Not thrilled to do that but if it works I'll be happy!
Ds3 "graduates" from prek4 on Wednesday and I am not ready for that. I am enjoying having older kids but kind of mourning the end of the little kid years.
I refuse to believe David is a sophomore. Nope . Not real.
I knoooooooooow. He said he wants to stay home for college and live with us "because of the current market" (lol), and I'm all "oh, whatever you want we're good with, totally understand if your plans change" trying to keep it breezy but inside I'm like "please stay home, please stay home".
lavenderblue Yikes! That doesn't even make any sense, lol.
My mom and MIL don't care at all about MD. I text my mom (we are not close at all, it's a weird obligatory thing we do for birthdays and MD) and my H calls his mom and she rarely answers or even calls back. I think at their age the novelty has worn off, which I can understand.
I had a wonderful MD. H and David always go above and beyond and I'm happy to accept, lol. David has half days today and tomorrow then he's done with 9th grade, which blows my mind. It really does go by so fast, those "enjoy every minute" old ladies were right.
I refuse to believe David is a sophomore. Nope . Not real.
Oh, on the subject of people who have cookbooks, I put a Half Baked Harvest cookbook on our wedding registry just because I feel like I've seen a few recipes of hers that looked good. And man, turns out I can't stand her! The whole intro to the book is about "healthy" swaps, which is fine, but there's sooo much diet culture/"wellness" BS. Oh well, I hope the recipes are good - and if not at least the pictures are pretty?
Omg I could talk about her for DAYS. I believe her to be mostly a fraud. She's amazing at food styling but I think she's selling lies.
This chokehold this cookbook author has on moms in my neighborhood is STRONG. I don't really get the hype because her food is not anything special IMO.
H and I are getting on a cruise today (it’s our anniversary)! We flew out yesterday and ran in to some acquaintances of ours at the airport gate. They are going to be on our cruise ship. Small world.
Anniversary twin! This is 14 years for us - what about you?
You're staying at our favorite place! DM me with any questions about the Y
I normally schedule our horse back rides for the morning since afternoons are often rainy when we are there late spring/early summer. I'm assuming you're riding with Jackson Stables based off where you are staying - they book up quickly so book your ride as early as you can. In my experience they are flexible on changing times but you don't want to get stuck with a ride you don't like.
