The donut discussion yesterday got me thinking. My H always puts a big bag of Lindor truffles in my stocking. He insists I love them. They’re ok, but nothing I especially love. This year, Lucy got them for me, too. Like. Guys? I haven’t finished them from last year!
I got back from a work trip at 1 am last night and had to leave at 9 am for a trampoline birthday party.
BUT: I got here and they told me the parents are dropping off and I should go enjoy myself, so I have! I’ve browsed a few stores, treated myself to a burger that smelled incredible from the parking lot, and now I’m reading for 15 minutes before I go in and get him. It was such a fun surprise to get this time! (Most parents have stayed at this year’s parties even though they’re in third grade.)
My wish for Mother’s Day was zero plans, so I’m hoping to read outside in a rocking chair or hammock for like three hours. I might take the kids to a fun new park after, but first I need to finally relax after a crazy work week.

DD just shared that Friday all the 5th grade girls were pulled into a classroom and lectured on the dress code and how they've seen lots of violations recently. Where were the boys while this was going on? In their classrooms getting time to work on homework. DD was rightfully so annoyed and glad she is questioning all of that fuckery. She pointed out saying tank top straps are to be 3 fingers wide, but a boy in her class that day had one on not that wide.
We've had some days in the 80s and girls get hot just like boys. Fuckers.
I started reading the first Game of Thrones book, and I'm really enjoying it (and comparing it to the show in my head as I go). But I need a more boring book for before bedtime reading, because it's a little too engaging and I'm going to keep on "one more chaptering" myself too late into the night.

Fingers wide is a very subjective measurement. Whose fingers? The person wearing the tank top or the adult enforcing the dress code? Adults definitely shouldn't be putting their hands on children to assess the width of tank top straps.

Have you spoken up about this? My in-laws are BIG gift givers, but when they do stuff like Easter gifts for us, it's a bag of goodies including everyone's favorite but mine. This year MIL texted to ask me if the kids still like the same stuff as usual, and responded, They do still like x, y, and z, but their favorites are A, B, and C...I always get a bag of C for myself at the grocery store because they are my favorites, and I have to hide them from the kids so they don't eat them all. So this year my MIL got each kid a small bag of C and a giant bag for me (C is Brookside pomegranate chocolates in case anyone is wondering). The kids were so jealous of my giant bag lol, but I was also stupidly excited. They have also been known to gift me a bottle of red wine that is dh's favorite on my birthday, when I've only ever drunk white wine in their presence (red wine gives me headaches). I let that one go though.
Yesterday was military spouse appreciation day and gotta say I didn’t feel very appreciated. I kind of feel like the Snoop Dog “I thank myself for all of my hard work” speech is on point.
But, today H put a new raised bed together and bought me new cutco knives so I guess I’ll keep him.
I skipped the gym this morning, and I feel it’s thrown my hair washing schedule off.
I’m kind of annoyed at missing the northern lights last night. It was raining until 3 am. FB photo suggest that people that stayed up that late (or woke up that early) got a show. But I think I may try tonight, as they say it should still be around. Maybe. Maybe not quite as strong though.
I had plans for this weekend at home alone. And it’s 3:30 and all I’ve managed to do is buy some tomatoes. Two were clearance because they are overgrown for a nursery pot, so those should go in today. Motivation… come on ruby.
My H started into a doctorate program this week. I'm annoyed at him already lol. He's bought so many books and APA guide manuals and whatever the hell else he feels he needs. He has been excitedly writing a paper all day and now he wants me to proofread it. He used to do this to me 10 years ago when he was doing his masters. Dude, I could give zero fucks about this and I will lose attention about two pages in.
I'm kind of in disbelief I even completed my masters 15 years ago. I would never have the patience or attention span now haha.

I went out to dinner last night with a friend. We found a new restaurant that was so good.
L finally finished her mother's day present to me from last year. It was two canvases with a flower that represent her and A. She did hers last year and As has literally sat blank for a year because she was intimidated by it. She did it last night and I was completely surprised this morning. I was so happy. It totally made my day and was the best mother's day present.

H takes David for donuts every Friday before school and for the first year or so he asked me every time if I want anything and I always said no (I have dietary restrictions that probably don't allow for it anyway). He definitely has no idea what my favorite is because I don't ever get them and never really liked them. We'd have to do a comparison to like tacos or something, lol. And if he couldn't get ahold of me to ask what I want, think he'd get me three different tacos and let me pick the one I wanted the most. My donut anecdote.

Today is such a beautiful day. Got my hair done this morning. Then we walked around a fine art fair, went to a brewery and had drinks on the patio, now I’m home reading on my own patio and about to walk the dog.
Tonight we’re driving to a nearby town to have dinner at this family restaurant that is supposed to have delicious fried chicken. Also hearing we have a shot at seeing the Aurora tonight since we were cloudy last night so fingers crossed.

I went shopping today for a mattress for my new bedroom set - I told STBX to take our existing one. I want a fresh start with a new bed! I ended up with a traditional instead of memory foam like we have now. I wasn’t sure what I’d want, but it would definitely not be firm enough for STBX’s liking. It’s nice to be able to have the kind of mattress I like again!

My ds has his 'girlfriend' (newly official, they are 14) over for the 1st time today to watch a movie. I told him they could watch it in the living room or basement, and he picked the living room. So now dh and I are hanging out upstairs to give them some space (while going down for random things now and then), but dh is watching baseball in our bedroom, which is making me too distracted to read, but man is it BORING. I hope the pizza I ordered gets here soon so I have a legit reason to go downstairs for a while.
The ONLY reason DH was able to correctly answer questions about my donut preference is because we just went on a late night donut run this week. We’re not big donut people, but he knows I like chocolate, so when in doubt, chocolate (cake) it is!
Today is the first day I don’t have this stressful work cloud hanging over me. I mean, there are plenty of stressful things going on, but the most stressful was resolved yesterday. I do have a scratchy throat and don’t feel great, so that’s no good.
DS is SO excited about Mother’s Day. He bought me something with his own money and he’s very excited about it. We were going to go out to dinner, but that’s on hold until I see how I feel tomorrow. Maybe we’ll just have donuts!

I was supposed to get all of my plants in pots/in the ground today but instead I surprised my mom with donuts (her favs are chocolate cream-filled, not the pudding-y shit #donutgate), took my daughter to a friends house, and went and bought another $100 worth of plants at the garden center while I was out.
All plants are still sitting on my patio in their nursery pots.

My nickname growing up was Peep.
It is based on what my sister said I sounded like when learning to talk.
But everyone who has heard me called that buys me marshmallow Peeps thinking I love them. And they’re fine. But how many Peeps does someone need? I can tell you for certain: not the amount I get.
My two cents on donuts. By all accounts I am a picky eater (really wish I wasn't!) and can be indecisive at times. If my husband went and grabbed donuts I would be fine unless he picked up donuts I don't like or wouldn't eat (like jelly filled, boston creme, etc). Even if he picked out of of his favorites I wouldn't be phased unless it was something I don't like. I'm also viewing that through a lens of him being considerate in most situations.

liking this out of commiseration (is that the right word? I feel like it's not). I mean my H is gone so it's no fault if his own, but ya...
Has anyone tried that lemonade coffee drink on the internet? I got intrigued and made a lemon simple syrup and did lemon juice instead of lemonade, and although it sounds like an abomination it was actually really good. I have left over lemon simple syrup so have been enjoying coffees today with it and it may be my new favorite thing.

DS is with his dad tonight so my parents brought me sushi to distract from my sadness.
I realize I'm being dramatic. It's only a few hours and he'll be home tomorrow before our late lunch reservations. But I was looking forward to seeing his little face in the morning bringing in what I'm sure is an adorable homemade card.
Off to drown my unnecessary sorrows in spicy tuna.
MH and his brothers have a text chain where they play this daily Wordle type game but for sports players/stats and it’s scored based on how obscure your answer is. They’ve been doing it for months. Oldest brother always gets the best score. Tonight H came back from his parents house with 2000!!!! Of his old childhood baseball cards. So he can “study”. Let me count the ways this excites me 🙄
I'm up early again and made myself a mocha to console myself. I'm spending some time researching a last-minute trip we are taking. It will be $$ but MH and I are trying to enjoy these adventures with our kids when they are of an age to enjoy the trip with us.
I got a dramatic haircut yesterday and wasn't sure about it, but now that I have washed it and lived with it for a day, I love it. My current hairstylist never styles it to my liking before I leave, but I always love it the next day. I'm learning to have faith in her.

The weather has been amazing, for a change, in London, so we've been sitting upstairs on our upper deck to eat all our meals. I got a run in this morning (doing C25K again) and went to the farmers market. I'm now drinking water and relaxing before things get busy (we're having friends over to watch Arsenal and then my H is making homemade pizzas for us all).
I turned the donut discussion into a game over dinner last night. My 14 year old DD got my preferred donut right. DH got my second favorite, so I’d consider that a win. I got 2 of the 4 family members right for their favorite but was also successful in getting the 2nd favorite for the other 2. Since I’m the one who brings them for donuts, I did have an unfair advantage.
Then we guessed each other’s chip orders. Everyone did better there, but I guessed Fritos for DS1 and he was quite offended, lol.
