We've spent a few hundred dollars. We were given hand me downs when he was smaller. I also buy gently used items at consignment sales and have gotten really lucky finding basically new name brand clothes for almost nothing. I buy a lot of stuff on sale and at stores like Ross, Target and Kohls.
Since people are judging me I feel compelled to mention that buying clothes for her, seeing her wear them, and seeing them in the photos I take truly brings me joy. And like Tamb mentioned, people spend money on hobbies and things they enjoy. So suck it, haters!
I would really hope people aren't judging. MIL has made a few comments about Colin's more expensive outfits so now I ALWAYS make sure he's in something customized when we see her, lol. My dad used to buy me Polly Flinders dresses weekly and that was borderline crazy but it made him happy. You are enjoying yourself and if you aren't going into debt over it, or if even you are, it doesn't matter. I imagine if we ever have a girl that our bill will at least double. Everything I see I like!
Hmmm I have no idea but it's more than most people are saying. We have no hand me downs and I don't always shop sales. Practically all her clothes are from target and Carter's but she has a lot of clothes! Plus I buy things here and there if I see a cute outfit so that adds up I'm sure. I will guess $700 but it's just a guess.
ETA; that's not right- I know two occasions (before she was born and Black Friday) I've dropped $200+ at a time so it has to be more than $700 overall.

I am not going into debt, haha. We aren't in any debt. I think if we were and I was still spending that I'd see it an as issue.
I got some hand me downs for Ethan, but I hardly ever used them. I just liked buying my own clothes. Things that were his style that I liked him in. I feel like even if we got a lot, I probably wouldn't have used them. I use hand me downs between the boys, but thats because I bought them all! I know I like them. I'm just not really a fan of hand me downs.

I didn't think you were! Just saying its no ones business if you were. I think this is all just such a silly thing to pass judgement on!?!?
Plus, for me, each of my boys has their own style. So I like letting them show it. Ethan was sort of sporty/casual. Jack likes to be dressed up. He's also like a little hipster. I could barely bribe Ethan to wear jeans, but Jack likes them. Wants skinnies and stuff.

lol. I LOVE this. My H wore 3rd generation hand me downs (2 older brothers) and hated it. He never ever got anything new. Some of the stuff was even 4th-5th from his cousins. I have no problem with hand me downs but my H said it fucked with his self esteem because all of his clothes were ratty and 5-10 years out of season.

I'm not saying anyone specifically is judging, I just think this is a silly thing to judge. We all have different interests, financial backgrounds, and parental focuses. And there's nothing wrong with that. I don't see how this is any different a debate than other "mommy war" issues.
Plus when I have a boy, I'll buy him tons of clothes too, and I don't care, lol. I only get to dress them for a limited time until they start wanting to only wear underwear on their heads in public with rain boots and stripes with plaids.

I realized I called him a little hipster two times. Ha
I hope nobody feels judged, if you've got it who cares how you spend it!
I felt a little bit like a spectacle bc a few people were like "OMG can't wait to see what Trudy spends!!" but whatever, it really doesn't bother me. I have no intention of cutting back my clothes buying for her and nothing anyone says can change that, lol.

You shouldn't! Hell, if I had it, I would spend it!!

I spend quite a lot with the two girls. I don't really want to know what the number is. Unfortunately the sizes/seasons for hand me downs hasn't been matching up, so I've been buying Charlotte a new wardrobe each season too (well let's be honest, I love doing it). My mom loves buying the girls clothes too. And I really don't buy nearly as much for myself as I did pre-kids.

My SS went through a skinny jean phase when he was 4 and it was NOT pretty! He's a solid kid with think thighs and a major bubble butt. My sister took care of him when I was in labor and in the hospital which was the height of this phase and she couldn't believe the effort it took to get him out of them at night LOL.
I can't seeing myself spending any less on a boy. We will still get zero hand me downs and need everything.
Boys just have less options. Pants and shirt, shorts and shirts. Long sleeve or short sleeve. Button down, polo, or t-shirt. Jeans or pattern or solid. Etc. Summer is pretty boring because it's shorts and a t-shirt or polo shirt everyday once they get past baby stage. Girls have a magnitude more of options for outfits and shoes, and also have many more hair accessories. I for sure have spent more on Anna, not an obscene amount more, but there is just more out there.
And I think a LOT of people are lowballing their answers on here, me included once I think about shoes, hats, special occasion, etc. No shame in what you spend if it gives you joy and doesn't put any type of emotional or financial strain on your family. Those brands of clothing also seem to have a decent resale value.
Oops... I just checked my gymboree visa rewards and I'm getting #6 soon. They give them out for every $1000. I only use this card for items they will wear. I have two kids ya'll and I buy 99% of their clothing. But seriously most of you spent under $500 LUCKY!!!!!!!!
There's a reason why I work.
And also they look great in coordination.
ETA: Mostly Gymboree with J&J for special occasions. DH got confused this year as daycare clothes were always Carters or non-Gymbo. This year for Kalvin, it is Gymbo....mostly because it is the second summer but that I have too much clothing and didn't buy cheaper clothing for daycare.

Ha. Luckily Jack is super skinny with a flat butt (like me). (Well, flat butt...not super skinny). I woud probably discourage this phase for him if I had to wrestle him in to them!!

I didn't see any judging, and i don't think anyone is judging.
I do think its easier to spend less on boys. I think boys have less options. Boys clothes are freaking adorable, and i do love shopping for my boy but i feel like there is more selection when shopping for girls. Like there are tons of different styles of skirts vs. pants.
I like to think I wouldn't spend as much on a boy b/c their clothes aren't as tempting, but then again, if I were imagining them on MY little boy, I'm sure things would be different. I just hope I have a girl next time because I really don't want to buy an entire second wardrobe.
Lies. It would be perfect if you had another April baby so their sizes lined up! I tried to do this, but Charlotte is just bigger than her sister was.

I very rarely pay full price for anything. I bought that horse dress from Carter's and it was $26 I think... that's very similar to what I pay for J&J dresses when they are on sale.
Dude, I still spent money on clothing prior to DD. The boy has to look good! Also, he has 26 outgrown rompers in 18-24 months, he wore more than rompers at 15-18 months of age. Maybe I do need an intervention.
