To clarify, we do NOT pay off our card each month. I pay my utilities, car, mortgage, and 3 student loan companies every month on time. I feed my child with decently healthy food. Some months, I only pay the interest on the card. Sometimes I charge more than I pay for the month. I pay what we can afford each month. I'm not that bad of a person. So if you're like me, try not to feel too bad. We all know we'll be okay.
((hugs)) Don't stress it. You do what you need to do, no one here has the right to pass judgement. I actually have a hard time believing the poll, but whatevs. Do not feel bad, Steelcity.

Thank you. I'm learning to accept my financial status but I also want the quieter probies to feel a little less terrible if they're in a situation like mine. No one here seems to be judging but sometimes it's hard to see that so many people are able to keep it together.

I am of the opinion that everyone struggles somewhere. Take all of this stuff with a grain of salt and know it'll all work out. Your child is absolutely beautiful and he's fed, happy, and thriving. Just don't want you to get down on yourself.

Oh, we don't have it together as it seems. I think many people would look at our monthly income and wonder how in the world we don't have more in savings or more to show for it. The aforementioned student loans are basically a second mortgage, and add in life insurance, a high health insurance premium, medical costs, regular utilities, etc....I get discouraged that we're not further ahead. Sometimes it blows my mind how expensive it is to live!
We used to pay it off every month, but then mat leave happened (didn't plan too well for that), H had to pay his taxes (happens every year, you'd think we'd be ready), and H only made about 30% of what he normally does last year, soooo, yeah, we're hovering right around the 10k mark.
Now that I'm back to work we're paying it off faster, but it's still up there. At least it's a cashback card??
SS - I racked up a few thousand dollars of cc debt while I was college, and had to use my bonus from my first job to pay it off. It was enough for me to swear off cc forever. We don't have any cc.
This. The only debt we do have is my medical stuff and it is almost paid off.
We charged everything that we can for the points and then pay it off monthly. Then, we cash in our points at Christmas time and use it for extra spending money.
Omg! That is so lucky! It wasn't the csection that cost us so much as it was the anesthesiologist. We essentially got charged for a vaginal and csection delivery. Ugh!
same here! It would have been nuch cheaper I'd I didn't have insurance and had the tax payers pay for it.... But we won't go into that.
Umm I had insurance that my doctor had advised me to take. When she said they would work it out, I assumed they would just not allow the doctor that does not take my insurance to handle my delivery. My insurance covered everything at the hospital, it was just the doctor's office that did not get paid and that happened because it was the doctor's fault that they told me false information. I informed her about my insurance change in October and specifically asked if it was going to be a problem and said I would find a new doctor in network and she said it would not be a problem. Then they did not inform me that there would be a problem until February when I was already very far along and it would make it very difficult to change doctors. It's not like I just skipped out on the bill.

We use the gold Amex for rewards but rjamz and bigapple are making me want those rewards cards! We also use the amazon visa bc you get a lot back to amazon.

I don't think she was referring to you? I think she meant people who have babies without insurance at all or who are on state aid??? Yours was just some lucky/weird thing that I am sure the doctor ate themselves.

Ahhh ok. Sorry @huahualove! I thought she was implying that's what I did.
We have cc debt still from about a year where we were both unemployed. It sucks but we're working to pay it off. Once I do pay it off I hope to get one of these cards that would actually give me airline miles and stuff and pay it off every month.

I like that you wrote this. I think sometimes it is easier for people to say out loud what they are doing if it is in the majority. I think it is sweet that you spoke up. And you will be okay, not only are you not "that bad" of a person, you are a good person. If only paying off a credit card made people good or bad people, life would be much simpler :-).
There was a thread yesterday on ML about are you late or early, there were pages of people saying they are early and hate it when ppl are late (I was one of those people). Hardly anyone spoke up about being chronically late, but we all know people like this, they just didn't want to pipe up. GBCN can be like that, at times it is a great place to tell different opinions and life stories, and sometimes it is pages of the same opinion over and over. Anyway, thanks for adding what you wrote.

I totally agree with sunshineluv Its easy to go along with the majority, but if you look at the pool results, there are people who selected 10K+ that probably haven't spoken up (not that they need to).

I have a CC which I opened to build credit. It has around $200 on it. I think the most we've ever had on it was around $350 which was when we ordered wedding invites. I use it for online purchases.

Also with this any type of poll, it's the people who are doing the ideal thing that are more likely to respond.
We had a lot of cc debt combined, probably $50K. We paid it off using Dave Ramsey's method last November (took less than 2 years to pay off). We don't use credit cards anymore for purchases besides one auto billing for toll road usage. Both our debt was accumulated over the years and when you only pay min payments it really gets you know where.

Wow that is awesome!! Less than 2 years! I have just been paying extra on all my cards at the same time but maybe I should start doing the Dave Ramsey method.

Congratulations on paying that off! That is really impressive, especially in such a short period. I've heard from a lot of friends that Dave Ramsey's snowball approach worked for them.

yeah. I ment like what my sil and bil did, or many other people I'm. We waited to have kids till be could afford it where they didn't care and did it anyways. Not what you said at all.

I have a balance on mine. We had a lot more debt out there we paid off within the last year. We are now down to 2 cc. One personal (the wells fargo one mentioned earlier in the thread that we use to help pay down the principle on our mortgage) and a business one.
We started our own business in 2007. No one would give us a loan to get us started. We got into some trouble and a lot of debt. The business is really picking up and we were able to get out of all the debt less the 2 cc mentioned above. Even though we have a balance on there, I am not too worried right now. I know there are a few jobs coming up where we couldpay them off in full if we want too. The credit counselor we are working with told us not to pay them off in full though.
I am proud that we have actually made it out of the huge hole we were in and even have a little bit in a savings account. We worked hard and are getting there! Starting a business by yourself and not getting any help is really difficult. I am hoping our time has come and we will finally catch some breaks. It seems like now is our time for the business to take off. Let's hope!!
formerlyllizzybbigapplemumegs - thanks! We worked really hard and it was tough in the beginning but once you get the "snowball" rolling (Dave Ramsey term) it really works out well! My H thought I was crazy when I told him that it could be paid off in 2 years. We made the goal and paid off in 22 months, so 2 months shy of 2 years.
I looked at my old spreadsheet and it was actually $48K which included cc's and a car. I must also AW that we did this while I was pregnant with Lillian. If I wasn't pregnant I think we would have paid it off sooner because I went crazy buying baby things and had doctor bills, etc. But we needed to pay it off as quick as we could once she was born because DC would cost $1000 per month!
We pay off every month. Thankfully my parents instilled this huge fear of CCs so I never opened any in college and was able to barely squeak by. I for sure could've gotten myself in some huge trouble back then without that upbringing. I don't have any fear of them now and we charge everything possible for the rewards and protections. I use a costco cash back Amex mainly, and an amazon card on amazon. We are disputing our Barbados trip we just went on for not being what was promised, and the hotel is being douchey about it so we are now going through Amex to get money back.
