I only read the first page and probably won't read the others. There are some really stupid arguments for circ'ing out there. I honestly DGAF what you do w your kid's penis but the judgment in the stupid circ'ing arguments is atrocious IMHO. Just say you wanted it and leave it at that.
I don't have a boy and am pretty neutral about the issue but I think there are bad arguments on both sides and also valid arguments on both sides. I don't think the judgement only goes one way.

Oh no, not at all!! But I think some of the judgements from the other either side are generally less petty than the one I was thinking of.
I'm talking mostly about the "but it looks ugly" argument for circ'ing. Which there wasn't much here anyway. Sorry for pre-supposing

Haha well yeah that one is bad! I think they are all pretty ugly haha
My honest opinion is that it's a bizarre procedure, when you really think about it. Who thought it was a good idea in the first place?? But I don't judge parents who do it, because it's become culturally entrenched in a lot of places.
I told DH that he had final say, but he had to research it with me first. He did, he decided to circ, Kai came a month early and stayed in the NICU, and in the end he was just so tiny and helpless that DH couldn't bring himself to have it done. So he's uncirc'd and this one will be too, if it's a boy.
Eh I don't consider that a petty argument (obviously).
I also don't consider the cleanliness or "will he fit in" arguments pro-circ'ing to be petty, either. I don't agree w them but I don't think they're petty.
ETA And I shouldn't even have brought it up but last time I saw a Circ discussion people were talking about much more about the aesthetic appeal and elephant trunks and I just got sick of it, lol.
I think if you tell someone they mutilated their infant you're a complete and total douchebag.
Something like that would ONLY come out of my mouth if they really pushed how gross and ugly and WHY WOULDN'T YOU SAVE THEM THE HASSLE FOR LATER in a douchey way to me.
Also I'm really glad I don't have a penis, lol. Too much work!
Yes, Muslims do it for religious reasons, same as Jewish people.
I don't know if things have changed but traditionally Muslim boys were circumcised at age 13 bc that's the age that Ishmael, Abraham's first son, had it done.

I looked it up and it seems there isn't any command about it in the Quran, so there are fewer guidelines about it than Jewish law. It seems not all Muslims see it as a requirement, so I guess maybe they don't all agree on when it has to be done.

Interesting! I has no idea. I thought they all did it.
