Yup, if my mom gets the flu it will quite possibly kill her (late stage emphysema) so everyone that wants to see her gets a flu shot. Heck, I'm nervous now that I hung out with her over the weekend and came down with a cold Sunday night.
Also, the hell kind of response is this? Thank god I don't just follow the herd:
As long as you like getting injected with formaldehyde etc. with some sort of the strain where someone in the lab went eenie meenie minie mo as to what the virus is going to do then go for it! JMHO I know that there are going to be people here who think that they are good but… just do your research and then make a decision.
Duh, carrots, your google-fu is way more technically advanced than the careers and research of those immunologists and virologists who develop the vaccine every year.
Yeah, it's not the chicken pox. You don't have it once then never get it again lol
I seriously cannot comprehend anyone not getting one (aside for medical reasons obv)
Oh, you can get the chicken pox again, I have had it twice. First time I was 2 or 3, second time I was 24.
Have you had your titers checked for other viral diseases? My dad had a friend who also had chicken pox multiple times - as a kid and later when his kids had it. It seems like your body didn't/doesn't develop a lasting immune response to chicken pox (or maybe it did the second time!). Anyway, because of that, I would personally want to check to see if my body had developed the antibodies for more serious diseases I had been vaccinated against. Just a suggestion!
Does anyone have a sense of the proper timing for this year's shot?
Also, is this something I can have done at my OB's office? I have an appointment in a few weeks. I've had insurance hiccups the last few times so I'd like to get it done when I'm at a doctor for something else anyway, if possible...
Flu season technically starts October 1, but I don't think they can predict when it will be at its peak. For various, dumb reasons I didn't get the shot until January of last year, which is considered late, but better late than never.
And I got it for free at Target. Not sure if it's a Target thing or an insurance thing or an Obamacare thing, but I think Walgreens has them for free as well. You might just have to show proof of insurance.
I know I should top up my TDaP, too, but I want to do that through an actual doctor and have a full physical

My daughter already got the flu shot and I will be getting mine soon, as will my husband. I think not getting the flu shot is a poor decision unless you have immune or other medical issues which could pose a problem. I had the flu once (did not get the shot that year) and believe me, you do not want to be that sick.
We get one every year. I already had mine at my OB's office a few weeks ago.
They must roll them out later in Canada because I asked at my GP's office today and they won't be out until early-mid October. WAHHHHHHH I want one now!
