I think there is cute stuff, but don't want to pay those prices. Plain polos that aren't $30, jeans with adjustable waist and length (you're the inventor, you figure that out:), ball caps with the smaller brim (only found one ever and it has stripes but I love it).

I've been looking everywhere for a cute pair of yellow rain boots with handles that isn't too expensive. DS has several hand me down pairs of various colors but he needs an in-between sizes that will probably only fit him for a couple of months. I've looked online and at a bunch of kids stores. The clerk at J&J said it's too early in the season and they may have them in a couple of weeks, but it's been raining a ton where we live.
I think there are plenty of good boy clothes out there. The problem is $$. I like the preppy, plain look (no phrases, big graphics. Etc)
Also, thinking about my husband's clothes, men and boys kind of just wear the same type of stuff all the time. Jeans, pools, plain t-shirt, baseball hat, etc. Whereas women and girls just have tons more options to make outfits cute with details added to clothing and accessories. That's just how it is.
And I like having fewer options, way easier to get the kids dressed in the morning.

I like plain and simple. No crazy logos, no fussy button downs. I like henleys, baseball tees, hooded polos, etc in nice colors. It is impossible to shop at Carters now that DS is in 24 month tops and 18 month bottoms- they still have so many damn matchy match sets. I don't want a dump truck on my kids bum anymore.
I am looking for a puffy vest, but not TOO puffy. The ones I've seen in my price range just look too bulky.
I love raglan tees but I don't know how we'd keep them clean with the white. C is 2/2 in destroying daycare shirts this week and I don't know if they'll come clean.
I just want to pay less than a billion dollhairs for anything that doesn't say "Chill Dude" on it.
Fuck that shit.
If you're really doing research, I'm a sucker for elbow patches on sweaters, quirky touches a la Paul Smith (mismatched buttons or a different fabric when you flip the cuff, etc), soft materials, skulls, and awesome leggings-- why do girls get to have all the awesome leggings?!

We have some that are grey or navy with colored sleeves. Got them at gap

I don't know what is considered cute as far as yellow rainboots, but I was actually just considering these earlier this week.
How do (casual) people feel about Joe Fresh? It's sold at my grocery store but I think they carry it at Kohls or something. I've been pretty happy with the things we've gotten.

Target has a few too. M has one that's grey & maroon.

We got a gray with orange sleeves one (waffle texture, not just plain cotton) at Kohls the other week. I think they had other colors too. Jumping Beans on sale is the right price for likely daycare destruction, right?
boy clothes do need more pattern and interest. i feel like once you've seen one you've seen them all. look at european stores though! they have all the good stuff. it's the only place i can find neutral stripes for my girl lol
I actually love love love buying clothes for my boys but it's hard to find plain stuff that isn't $$$. Gap makes nice plain T shirts that have held up. I buy HA boy stuff on sale and it holds up beautifully. I like the H&M kids stuff actually! Found nice plain but stylish jeans there. They run big. My boys almost always wear jeans with plain Ts and fun belts. I avoid Carter's at all costs, despite my MIL's best efforts to steer me there. Everything there is covered in words or trucks or sports.
FTR, I do like boy clothes, I just find I have to be pickier and dig a little harder.
With the recent staining epidemic in this house, though, I think I'm going to have to just buy a shitton of cheap Target t-shirts for daycare and call it a day. I suck at stain removal apparently.

I have three boys. I am also a photographer so I am picky about what I buy style wise (flammable I know). I buy some gap basics and the rest at the European stores or off the small mom-owned companies I find in Instagram.
I agree with different patterns and fabrics. Pants are an issue because I try to make them easy on/off for the early potty trainers. So many shorts/pants have snaps/buttons/etc. Also some breathe able but sturdy fabrics. These crazy thin tees do not work for me.
And please bigger neck holes! Or stretchy fabric at the neck or SOMETHING. I know DS's head is wayyy above average at 100th% but the neck holes on 95% of shirts are hilariously small. Babies and toddlers have big heads! I loved onesies for the fold-over type neck holes. Why can't they be on big boy shirts?
