My teacher one day decided my name was Lillian. My name ends in "anne" but the beginning is totally different. She was getting pretty mad when she kept calling me and I wasn't responding. I didn't correct her but I wish I did so she would have felt dumb.
My poor SIL has a rare name that people seem incapable of pronouncing. She always is called Laura. She chose an easy name for her DD.
my last name can also be a (not very common) first name. Yet, my first name was like, top 10, in the 70s (think Jennifer, Melissa, etc). It is not infrequent that people call me by my last name. It annoys me to no end

My name is Brianna. Outside of work, most people just ask me how I spell it. The worst I usually get is people calling me Rhianna.
At work, I have been called Alex, Michelle, Lu Ann, ect. And the people that call me something completely wrong are always the ones with obscure names that insist I call them by that name and correct me if I mispronounce it.

My name is Jana and I often get Jenna and Jennifer. I am in the phone book and Janat because when I was setting up my utilities the guy was convinced my name was Janet no matter how many times I corrected him and spelled it. I hang up on a lot of telemarketers too lol. At my old job there was a Jennifer and when she got pregnant people started congratulating me in meetings and stuff and it was super awkward. And then they'd complain that there were two Jennifers so how were they supposed to know.
Growing up, I had a very easy name to say and spell. No one ever got it wrong and rarely asked how to spell/say it.
I got married and changed my last name. It's a simple name, but folks often mispronounce it. I rarely correct them. I don't care that they say it wrong.
My name is not weird for a man, but it's completely odd for a woman. So generally people hear me correctly, they just second guess that what they heard could actually be my name. Then it's usually followed up by, "Oh, but what do you go by? What's your nickname?"
My last name on the other hand is a German-extra-consonant mess. That has to be spelled and re-pronounced over and over.
My last name is not common in the US, but very common in Trinidad and Barbados. I think 1 out of 20 people pronounce it correctly the first time. I think they see the first and last letter and just make up some shit in between.
As a barista, do you screw up people's names on purpose?
I have an unusual name that is always misspelled and mispronounced.
But the most common reaction I have when people actually meet me in person after hearing my name is "oh wow, you're white" My name is very similar to a popular male african american name. Thanks mom and dad.
When I was stationed in Norfolk, VA, there was a Chinese restaurant that I'd call for food delivery fairly often. They'd always ask me to spell my last name (which was Williams), and then they were surprised when they saw that I was white.
I had a professor all 4 years of college and no matter how many times I correct time he always called me Kathy. I get Jessica is a lot which is not even close.
I stopped saying my last name and just started spelling it. Even using an Americanized pronunciation people have a hard time with it.

I go by Lori at Starbucks after an incident where I gave my first name - starts with L, three syllables - and the person wrote "Hannah" on the cup. I had no idea about this until they called out my (somewhat unusual) order as "I have a [order] for Hannah!" and I was all confused about how it was even possible that there was another person in Starbucks with my exact same order.
It is interesting now to see how many different ways they spell (and misspell) Lori, though.
People think I'm saying Emmy sometimes instead of Amy.
Me too. Or I get Ah-may because of the spelling. I tried to change my name to Amy in the 2nd grade just because people always spelled it that way anyway. Now, I get people who still spell it wrong even when they are emailing where my name is in my email address. GRRRR

Oh, and mine ends with an A but when changed to an O, it's a very common man's name (not American name obvs), so in email, even though it clearly displays the A, I get called the male version way too often. Then they meet me and are like huh, I thought you were a guy. Well my email has the A, plus I sign the email with my female name, so step up the observational skills please.
And both of my girls get called a combo of their names. They're both Angelina to some people, although that's not either of their name.
We give my H's middle name for our last name when needing to be called for something. We have had to spell it so many times my DD would do it within months of our adopting her at 26 months. She will say it than spell it out because of hearing us do it.
I started going by a nickname in high school (my initals) because I was so fucking sick of people jacking my name up.
My mom's first name is Denise and telemarketers will call her house asking for Dennis. LOLOL she is like "No Dennis here." *click*
Yes. Cecile gets Cecil all the time. In writing. Nobody calls her "see-sill". They call her "sa-seal" and then spell it without the e.
I had no idea it would be that confusing.
My parents named me Cecile. It's pronounced see-sill. I go by my middle name.
Changing schools and the first day of school was always fun...teachers called Cecile Re...re... and I would know that was me. My maiden name is one No One gets correct or feels comfortable even trying.
Oh andy first name is Beth...you'd be surprised how many people put Death on take out orders. I also get Steph and Seth a lot
