When I was teaching band and choir I had a "no Christmas/seasonal songs until after Halloween" policy. It was more for me than for them, but yeah, if you don't want your performance to suck you have to start early.
I'm not sure if she would have started right now or would have waited a week, because she had several options available, not knowing the skills and knowledge of her sub. I wasn't brave enough to have them break out the recorders, but I can certainly lead them in song.
Honestly, if it had been me I would have waited. Plowing through new music isn't something I'd want to heap on a sub-- but maybe she thought the kids would be so excited they'd have a great time and therefore be easier for you.

Good call on the recorders though! ;-)
She gave several options, including using the textbooks, which I really didn't want to do.

@therealmc, I cannot believe someone would tell you that teaching your kids to be charitable is a horrible thing to do! That's mind blowing to me.
We plan on making them something they already own to give so they get that it's important to realize sometimes you have to give up something you like a lot to bring joy to others. I guess we're real assholes. We planned to start this year. Maybe they'll hate it a little when they're young, but the impact that will have when they are older will be huge.
I do. Wear perfume every day that is, and probably DO go overboard. I love perfume and rotate through about 10 different ones depending on my outfit.
Whatever, I don't care. I don't work in an office with other people, and mostly see adults when outside at school pickup & dropoff.
The only close proximity I get is to my HS students and most of them stink so I'm thinking my perfume is an improvement
The smell of Axe body spray combined with freshman boy BO is forever burned into my nostrils. I would say yes, yes, going overboard on perfume is vastly preferable to teenage boy smell.

Jamie and I once had to leave a Dairy Queen bc of the teenage boys who walked in. They smelled so bad the entire restaurant stunk and we weren't the only ones who left. I was literally gagging when they walked by. And Jamie, who bends down to smell his farts, made a face.
