F's b-mom is 4 months along and has been saving for an abortion, but b-dad and his mother took her SSI money this month. It's not like she can wait forever, so I told her that "a friend of mine" said she would help out with whatever she didn't have. It's really H and I, but I don't want to start down that road of giving her money, so I made up an anonymous friend. I was going to do a Go Fund Me, but I wasn't sure it would generate enough in time.
$570 is what it's going to cost WITH insurance coverage. Seriously, how the hell are most people supposed to pull that kind of money out of their asses? I choked a little when I got the text about how much it was going to cost!
If a person doesn't have the resources to raise a baby how can health care professionals expect them to have the resources to terminate? I know this is not the only reason for abortion. It should be easy and cheap for anyone that wants one.
I believe that Gofundme does not allow you to ask for money for an abortion (I shit you not).
But yes, they are expensive. My Mom worked at a clinic in the late 80s and I have in my head they were $250-$300. I almost fell over when I saw recent prices. THis is why I give money to organizations that fund abortions.
But what about all of the women in situations like hers who have no one to give them money? But then people bitch about welfare queens having babies and not being able to care for them. This shit makes me so mad.

Well, churches shame them into keeping the baby and then they throw a pro-life baby shower!

no sex for the poors. Didn't you know that?
Oh right...I forgot the part about just keeping their legs closed. No Skittles or sex.

It also looks like PP has a Reproductive Justice Fund. I guess I know what I'll be donating to from now on. I would like to say this situation is unbelievable, but it's really not.

My termination cost a $30 copay, but they didn't put me under - it was an in-office d&c (or e, I forget). My d&c for missed m/c cost about $800 because it was done at the hospital, under general. I was 13.5 weeks for both.
Good for you for helping out - that's wonderful of you!
I thought Planned Parenthood offered them on a sliding scale of what you can afford?
They do. But for an in-clinic abortion at that many weeks, even if you make something like $17k/year, you're still (potentially) looking at up to $700/800 or so.

I know way too much about this, it seems.
Right. She didn't have enough when it would have been cheaper, and she doesn't have enough now that it's going to be more expensive because she had to wait because she's poor as hell. Unfortunately, this is a common occurrence. This is why abortion should be covered in all cases by all insurance. On demand with no apology.

That is crazy. My L&D & prenatal care only cost me 500.00 OOP. You are awesome for doing this. How is baby brother?
Without insurance or a sliding payment, I think they are about $600 around here. I agree that's crazy if you are not in a position to pay for it. I hope the sliding scale means that the only people who pay $600 are those who can truly afford it or whose insurance covers it.

WTF? Can you just set it up as a general medical procedure? This makes me angry. GFM needs to get out of my uterus.

I assume this really depends on your insurance coverage. My old insurance covers both OB/L&D and abortion 100%, though you don't see abortion listed in the services brochure. I think they just consider abortion to be an OB expense.
On the flip side my sister paid like 3k after insurance to have a baby, so I'm going to assume if she had a termination there would be some cost associated too. If the person in the OP is paying $570 for an abortion with her insurance, I highly doubt L&D would be less than that (but given politics, who knows I guess).

Baby Brother looks wonderful in the pictures we've seen lately. He and B-mom are staying with Aunt A, so he's clean and happy. And looking more and more like F every day. It's amazing to look at him and see my baby boy all over again (heart)
