To clarify, people can say things about pixy's ACTIONS AS A MOD. If people can criticize y4m for making her "group-thinky" statement, then why can't they criticize pixy for sharing it (or doing any other mod action)? I DO NOT SUPPORT running around saying stuff like, "Y4M is a terrible admin and kicks puppies for fun" or "pixy is the worst moderator evar!" No. That's why I mentioned de-personalizing criticism. But it should be OK to say, "I disagree with the action that [insert admin or mod name here] took because of XYZ reason." That's it. The board doesn't work if admins and mods can act with no debate or criticism about said actions.
I wholly and completely disagree with this and I'm kind of disgusted to see who "likes" it. Context is important. So is some fucking humanity.
I served it. I boxed up pounds of it for to go dinners but I didn't get any mother fucking ham for myself. My holiday felt inadequate. I'm going to cry.
Speaking of ham, I feed everyone at the CB sugar cured ham because I totally forget to ask people when they order shit if they want sugar cured or country ham so I pick sugar cured instead of going back to ask them. I'm totally not supposed to do that but I give zero fucks. I've also yet to have anyone complain about it.
Wait. I don't like country ham or that red juice people put on grits. I like sugar cured ham with cloves in it.
Red juice? Tha fuck?
I don't eat grits though (unless it's shrimp and grits) so I'm not concerned with the answer.
That's why I was doubting the turnout at 120. Seriously guys.
But doesn't that 2700 unique hits also mean that if I log in on my phone, my work computer, my tablet, and my home laptop all in one day, that we really have about 1/2 to 1/4 of those for nerdists who have too many toys? I mean, if most people use both a computer and phone, then that is half as many hits.
This is a whole lot of sturm and drang over shit that is so very rarely a problem. So pixy can be a little shall we say dramatic as a mod. That's like Tuesday. Or more like Easter. Comes around once a year, spawns a bunch of threads, and we get ham out of it or at least we should get ham. I'd like it more if we got ham. I miss ham. I didn't get any for Thanksgiving this year.
And so Y4M doesn't think we're amazing. She's a global mod for the entirety of the internet, not our little corner solely. This is also something that's like Easter, rarely an issue, comes up once a year maybe and lots of people don't find it nearly as meaningful as a small amount of the GBCN population.
This whole calling everyone to the carpet, crying down the curtains, half hearted threats to leave/step down is just . . . idk, maybe because I haven't been here as it was developing but reading over it hours later . . .
No, people need to stop. Pixy is just fine as mod. Y4M is just fine as global mod. Our criteria for banning, particularly in light of the fact that there are ways to easily get around a banning is just fine too.
As a side note, the primarily reason I don't support banning lys is because she's an active member on another board. It would be like people on CEP calling to ban Toledo because some people feel like she just comes over here to roll her eyes at us. (Sorry, toledo, it was the best analogy I could come up with. You're definitely a more substantive poster than Lys by miiiiles.)
Can we go back to fighting about food now?
If I wasn't having DH'S baby, I'd want to have yours.
Since you are just 8 weeks, maybe you can have Irish Twins and get pregnant again? Ha. that one never gets old.
Oh, is it inappropriate if I LOL over the fact this thread has us sounding like the heads of the Republican party before a tough election? "We need more Latinos and Asians! How can we get more Latinos and Asians?!??"
Shall I send myself to the corner?
Only if I can come with you. Let's make shadow puppets!
I didn't say anyone has. But she's already stated she will likely step down as a moderator.
All I'm saying is that if the board loses Pixy so that the admins can continue to fight for Lys like some sort of noble quest, the board will have lost a substantial contributor and instead kept a troll.
We would only lose Pixy if she chose to step down. Even with the posting of another private interaction, no one is asking this. Please stop acting like people are out for her.)(general)
I neither stated nor implied that someone else was trying to run her off.

Don't forget yesterday's chatter about voter fraud.
regular lurker posting....I do post on other boards, mainly H&F and GP. I keep telling myself to post more, but I cannot keep up with your witty humor and GIFs. I will try more, though I am not a minority, just a jew (in VT! Which makes me a minority here...).

SBP, this is why the board gets group thinky.
Part of groupthink bias, at least by the psychologist who did the largest body of work on the subject, is the tendency of informal leaders of the group squashing dissent and pressuring people to agree a certain way or censor themselves. Comments like yours above are exactly that kind of behavior.
Also, you are closer to Pixy that some people. You guys probably talk off board about stuff. You are more in touch with her state of mind, personal daily experiences, etc. than those of us who jump on and off of here. I happened to see something in ONE thread about still not having word about the lawsuit so that is all the context I have to read between the lines in your comments. If someone hasn't seen that, or isn't in tune with what that means, it just means they don't have the dame knowledge you do, not that they are completely lacking in empathy or compassion. there may be more going on that I haven't seen because I can't make time to read every single post on this board. And so there may be others who are also equally out of the loop.
So to say that someone who criticizes a particular action is lacking humanity is seriously ad hominem and really unfair if you like to keep people with diverse opinions around and participating.

New York’s hottest club is [in a deep voice] GROUP-THINKIE! Located on the Lower CEP guts of Liberality, this random home invasion of justified lethal forces is an Irish twin of legally drunk clothing designer Marky Mark and a split test-tube egg from Octomom. As you walk in, you’ll be handed a glass of champagne — or is it piss? This place has everything: Lush-sangria, feisty pixy0stix, mouthy NitaX and @helenabonhamcarter s, the longest articles ever from summer, a majority whip asdfjkl, NewOrleans righteousness, lurkerloos, and a lysbug. Bonus: Don’t worry about security, because it’s guarded by an army of Lobo-cops. Lobo-cops? Labidia-waving, homeless-loving, Robocops.

I am in love with you.
ETA - I was not here on AE day. OMG I am loving the comments you made that day. I will come back to read more later.

This actually makes no sense as asdfjkl is expressing the minority opinion here. "Groupthink" at the moment is NOT in her favor.
ETA: I have no special insider relationship with pixy. I know little of the backstory. We probably butt heads more than we agree. I just support asdfjkl's thinking to give her wide latitude for reason's that I don't care to discuss any further.
ATTENTION EVERYONE: IF YOU NEED TO PAGE ME, ITS @ FUCKSTICKLEGIT
Just @ fuckstick is my old defunct name. Sorry for the confusion.
You know, I caught a lot of shit for full-on changing my name instead of just the display, but THIS IS WHY! It's easiest when the tag and the screen name we see are the same.
But I feel all wrong criticizing you, so here are some kittens:

It is not her action of expressing a minority opinion that is groupthink behavior. It is her ad hominem attack on someone for doing something she doesn't like. That is one of the key symptoms of groupthink behavior listed by Irving Janis, the de facto father of groupthink theory. As is stereotyping of outsiders (which CEP tends to do of Republicans, many conservatives), self-censorship (which many lurkers and even regular posters have admitted), and self-appointed mind-guards. See earlier SBP post in this thread.
Also, wanting to oust a moderator who is critical of the group as a whole (see antecedent - lack of leader impartiality).
It's not a board of 100% groupthink. But the behaviors that are groupthink symptoms are present and easy to see.

Stefon, I'm sure, said that all out of love. He loves new clubs.
"This prick is asking for someone here to bring him to task Somebody give me some dirt on this vacuous mass so we can at last unmask him I'll pull the trigger on it, someone load the gun and cock it While we were all watching, he got Washington in his pocket."
