Holy crap, my ambient lighting palette already arrived. I can't wait to play with it! Are there any tutorials I should check out? I think I remember people saying that each color had a specific purpose.
2. I found a great YT artist for hooded eyes - Stephanie Lange. She has them herself so many (most?) of her tutorials focus on how to deal with hooded eyes. I've only watched a few videos but so far she does an excellent job explaining what to do and why. mominatrix
Thanks so much for sharing this. I'm still a bit flummoxed as to what to do with my hooded eyes.
I have a $75 stipend to BareMinerals. I've never used any of their products before, so does anyone have any favorites? Their new pop of passion blushes look fun. I have no interest in their loose powder foundation (I'm not a big fan of loose powder stuff, but if their eye shadow is amazing, I may relent). I may run by Ulta today to look at the stuff IRL before buying online (where I have to use my stipend).
I pretty much love everything I've tried from bare minerals with a few exceptions (their loose bronzer, their mineral veil, their primer, their mascara). Their ready eyeshadows, hands down, are the best formula I have ever tried. Their lip gloss is great. Basically eveything is good, IMO.
heyjude, I failed at Bill + Vintage Purple because, without thinking twice, the first thing I did was swipe Creamy Beige all over my lid, which is too damn dark for Bill or VP to show up. As soon as I did it, I said, "Oh shit" out loud. I did give it the old college try, and I put Bill and VP on after that. I can't say they stand out, but if you look reeeeally close, you might see some purple.
eh matte - if it's not your thing, then it's not your thing. Nothing wrong with that. But it might be worth trying a few other brands. The MAC matte formula is supposed to be the shit. Or maybe a stain would be more your speed?
Also..- really? 21? you're in the wrong place if you think you're going to get tsk tsked over 21 lip products. I think I've walked around with that many IN MY PURSE at some point in the past year. Like...uh, Friday. You're in a thread with NewOrleans here. I think she's at like 297.
LOL. Y'all have to understand I am like the anti-hoarder. In everything. I've posted my household purging schedule on here before. Nothing is spared - dog toys, skin care, holiday decorations, childhood "mementos" for H and me....
I will check out MAC. I haven't tried their makeup before, admittedly. I have a Macy's coupon, so maybe I'll hit up their counter.

In theory the one on the left is an all over powder, the one in the middle a highlighter, and the one on the right is the bronzer.
In practice, you can do whatever you want with them.
I actually found that the one in the middle works as an all over powder on me. Some people say that this results in a disco ball face on them, but the two times I have tried it, random people have told me that I look great and I do not feel disco ball ish.
I found that the bronzer works great for contouring on me, perhaps because I'm pale and it's a really light for a bronzer.
Y'all! I was at Nordstrom this morning and some girl from another counter was helping me at Mac cuz I wanted to look the new palettes. I mentioned to her how I loved the Smashbox cherry smoke and she's like, "Oh I work at the Smashbox counter. I just found a cherry smoke palette, I can't sell it, you can have it"!!
So yay! I have a back up cherry smoke palette! Yay!

Anyway, I'll try again tomorrow.
You don't own eye makeup remover or what?
Not at the gym. I had also already smeared all of my magic potions on my skin and didn't want to wash those off and start over. True FWP.

If you really want to be a minimalist, then I'd ditch any of those that you don't put on and just LOVE how they feel. I'd go by formula first, color second. You can have a basically infinite number of colors, but there are going to be some formulas you put on and just don't love. they either don't feel right, they don't last well, they don't wear well...something. If so, ditch them. mercilessly.
I ended up trashing 4. The Clinique, both Benefits, and MUFE. Also a lip/cheek combo by Stila that I try repeatedly and always hate when I do.
Also trashed a Stila eye shadow quad and a Smashbox trio. I used to like them but either my eye skin has changed (entirely possible) or I've gotten pickier (also entirely possible. LOL) but it just goes on terribly patchy and even primer hasn't fixed that. So. Poof.

Once I fucked up my eye makeup and didn't want to wash my face off. SO I just slathered some cream shadow over the whole mess and started over. It worked. I think it was that Bare Minerals eye BB stuff.

seeing as you guys know my face pretty well, I'm going to ask you...
I've been dithering with a big change to my hair. I haven't been able to settle on something I like for a while... I want something slightly edgy but really low maintenance. Cuz I'm lazy.
My hair, currently is a bit past collarbone length, but it's wavy, so it looks shorter. I've done everything with my hair you can imagine; I'm not scared of going super short, but it's longer now than it's been in forever and I'm kinda wanting to keep it longer...
I think I finally found a cut I really like... but I'd love some feedback...
What do you think?
(we seem to have a similar round-ish face shape, and hooded eyes(!) and it looks like it'll work with the waviness)...
yes? no?
Be honest... I've been paralyzed with indecision for a while, so I'd love some real feedback before I go do this thing.

I think it would look fantastic on you!! But bangs are not fun to maintain. That is they require frequent trims. I swore them off at age 12 or so. But the overall look would look great on you!!!

Yeah, but I think I need something to modernize me. Heavy bangs like that might do the trick. If not, they're long enough that they'll be NBD to grow out, no?
Plus, the place where I go, they do free trims 4 weeks out, so I can go in and get a bang touchup, gratis!

You should do it then. You are talking to someone who hasn't had a haircut since December 2013 because I just hate going in lol. So there's that.

OMG, I thought it was just me!
It's been about that long for me, too. Honestly, I don't rightly know, but about that long.
...I get paralyzed with indecision. Not good.
I used to love getting my hair cut, going in, having big changes... but lately... I dunno... it seems so much harder. I'm trying to get out of my hair funk!

I actually desperately need a haircut too but I have the same problem with indecision. I've had a bob for a decade maybe and I decided a year ago that I was over the bob but I don't know what else to do and also I'm just lazy.
After about 14 months of growing my hair out, I chopped it about a month ago and I love it so much. I can't pull it back anymore, which was my go-to lazy hair day look, but my stylist did such a great job giving my a chin-length bob and lots of layers that it's almost just as effortless. Add some hair gel, blow dry with a roller brush, done. My hair feels so much healthier now.

I think bob's are fantastic, timeless haircuts. I've just had one way too long and I need something else. Maybe a modified bob. I don't know. My hair is a disaster.
LUCKEEEEE. It actually just occurred to me this morning that I still haven't received a shipping notice for the order I placed last week. LOL
What did you order?
I heart this In a pickle Truth Cop a feel Hanky panky
And the blushes: early bird and holiday
I love both Hanky Panky and Truth, but Cop A Feel is one of my absolute favorites because I can use it as an eye primer/base (light layer) OR as a standalone color (build it up). I frequently use it as an inner corner color as well. That will be the one I hit pan on first.
I have Holiday and think it will be gorgeous for summer. I almost got Early Bird. You'll have to tell me how you like it.

This is what happens to me. I get sick of my bob, try something else, and always come back to the bob. The only thing I can say is that because my stylist gave me a bunch of shorter layers with the bob (and I part it to the side), I don't know if anyone would look at me and instantly see a bob. In that respect, I'd definitely say I have a modified bob. It's the best cut I've had in ages.

Cool!
I already have: On the rocks Sequin Cheeky Eye candy Bill And tea party.
I have always and forever adored that pixie cut you got a few years ago, mominatrix. I know you said you didn't like the upkeep very much but you rocked the ever loving shit out of that cut and it will always be my first vote for you. Always.
If anyone wants a cute brush roll, this site has a 25% off coupon (SPRING2015) good today only. I already own this one:
and just bought another one in a different pattern (photo not available - apparently I snagged the last one).
With the discount, the total with shipping was about $22. They also have smaller ones for less. I've had the one above since... May, maybe? June? It has held up perfectly, including through the laundry. I adore it.

Did I say I loved it? Because I loved it.
thanks... I loved it, too.
But it was a PITA to keep up. I switched from the spendy haircutters to a less expensive one, and instead of looking all chic-pixy, I ended up looking like my mother. No lie. The RIGHT short haircut is super hard to do.
...so, I kinda gave up on it. At least for a while. I'm tempted to say I'll go back to a super short pixy when I get more grey. Because I think grey hair looks great in that kind of cut (also, a bob).
...I'm sure that'll be me in a few years. Without the perfect cheekbones and.. yeah, who am I kidding?

Dude, part of why it looked so good was how amazing your cheekbones looked so don't sell yourself short here, woman.
