California really needs some of that snow up in the mountains. We're parched out here. January is usually our wettest month and we've had ZERO days of rain here in Northern Ca. since mid Dec.

NYC public schools are closed tomorrow so my workplace will likely be closed too. I mean, they've instituted a travel ban as of 11:00 pm tonight, I doubt they will lift it by 6:30 am tomorrow.
Slightly bitchy, but I kind of smirk at all the panic of heavy snowfall in other parts of the country. Y'all shut shit down, for us, it's Tuesday.
Though, I am aware that the snow removal system pretty much anywhere outside of MN is archaic if existent. So, then my sympathy kicks in.
I was born in upstate NY and lived in CO for several years, before moving to South Jersey. During the first snow that we got after moving there, I walked out to the bus stop and stood there waiting. No one else showed up. Finally a neighbor came out to tell me that school was cancelled because of snow; there may have been a dusting. Having just come from CO, I was in a state of disbelief and I spent years bitching about New Jersey's inability to handle snow. Apparently I'm still bitching about it, because here I am.
Anyway, here in the Mid-Atlantic states, I'd say that in addition to our not-quite-adequate snow removal practices, a huge issue is that people forget how to drive in snow and ice because we generally don't get much of it. Shutting things down is as much a safety issue to keep people off the roads as it is a clean-up issue.
