I'd also rather be contacted at work than home. I wouldn't want to be called just because I'm working. An e-mail is more polite so I can come back to it later if I'm busy.
I don't think it's stalker. I think its Doug Stamper. Like, you do it, you know it's weird and you probably shouldn't, but you're morally conflicted/bankrupt and under the impetus of forces larger than yourself. Like birthday greetings.
Also, calling someone on a publicly available work number to speak to THEM isn't weird at all. What makes it weird is the whole "Hey, so, uh, can I talk to your sister?"
Clearly the answer is to look her up on the local property appraiser's website and show up at her house.
I think if you've been out of touch for an extended period of time, it's time to just send good vibes for her out in the universe.
I did. Her and her husband owned the same house for fifteen years but sold it several months ago. They're not listed as owners on anything else in that county, so maybe they relocated. Or got divorced. Or, as someone else pointed out, died.

Does she owe you money? Do you need her kidney? I was in camp "emailing her brother is slightly awkward but not stalking" but I'm entirely too lazy for this level of effort.
I'd e-mail him at work and ask him to pass along your info. I wasn't on facebook and an old friend found my brother and got in touch with me that way. Not weird at all!

Wow.
What's "wow" about this? It's the grammar error, isn't it? I've only had one cup of coffee this am.
I don't get this reaction. Look at you people acting all innocent, like you don't google past friends/acquaintances/colleagues on the regular. This is a friend she's trying to locate, not an ex whose bunny she's going to boil.
Omg, people. She looked them up and Google told her that they sold their house. This is very easy information to find if you know someone's name and the city/county the live in. I'm sure she typed it into Google with her own fingers and not the detached fingertips of her victims, in which case your shocked reactions would maybe make more sense.
the fingers of skin suits can be so hard to type with
I wouldn't be weirded out by the effort. I probably wouldn't do much beyond a follow-up email to the brother but that's more because of my laziness rather than me thinking it's stalkerish.
My H's best friend from elementary school showed up at his parents house about 8 years ago. He had moved to Denver and lost touch with all his friends.
