I think people (under 70) who don't have cellphones now just like to say they don't have cellphones because it makes them seem cool and detached. Like a goddamn hipster.
NOPE. YOU ARE NOT COOL. NOW I JUST THINK YOU ARE USELESS IN AN EMERGENCY.
what happens when your battery is Dead? does it work?
car charger!
iPhone > environment, cost of gas
BUT WHAT IF YOUR POWER WENT OUT AND YOUR BATTERY DIED AND YOUR CAR WAS COMPLETELY OUTOF GAS ALL AT THE SAME TIME??!!! cell phones and their fickle, dying batteries will kill us all in the end.
I don't disbelieve that she doesn't have a cell phone.
I don't believe that "we left because we were uncomfortable being the only adults there" really meant "we left to go home to call to call the police of course!"
Clearly someone with a cellphone beat her to the punch because the po-po showed up just as they were slinking away.

Whenever I see kids unsupervised like this I just assume it's a "Children of the Corn" situation, and bounce before they get me. But maybe that's just me...
Also, I'm feeling a bit negligent about letting E cross the street by herself. And F is allowed to play in the front yard without me if the 11 year old neighbor girl is playing over. She's the bomb.

go a head and not believe me that's fine I have not owned one since I was 19 I do not need to be gotten a hold of 24/7 and I have a land line so my phone works when the power is out. it's been that way ever since I have had kids. I pay one phone bill and I don't see the point in owning cell
Do I have to read to the end? I can't wait. C'mon, you have kids, and unless you spend all day next to your landline (obviously, not the case), then what if you are out and have an emergency with your kids?
Depend upon the kindness of strangers? Because that wasn't happening at your park.
Sorry, if I repeated someone more wise and timely than I!
Efit: I should just see myself out and play some Google maps pac-man
I don't get it. If she couldn't see the kid how did she know the cop pulled up?
And WHY THE FUCK WOULD YOU AND YOUR H BAIL ON THOSE KIDS IF YOU WERE THE ONLY ADULTS AND A BABY WAS WITHOUT SUPERVISION.?
Tell me I'm crazy for judging that.
I Feel like an ass hole I admit I was wrong. I just didn't know what to do.
I expect flames with this post.
Somehow asshole as two separate words really grosses me out. It actually conjures visual imagery. I'm unsettled, and may be forced to shoot up my own house.
Neither you nor your husband own a cell? Okay, assuming that's true (not really, but I'll play along), you couldn't one of you stay at the park making sure the baby actually was being taken care of while the other one went home to call?
Personally, I wouldn't let my almost 8-year-old take a 6-month-old to the park, but I'm confused. Was one of the 13-year-olds actually in charge?
First of all why is it so hard to believe we don't have cell phones? second of all I have a child with special needs that is a 2 person job at the park. If she is not holding hands or strapped in she is taking off faster than I can move. AND IT'S FUCKING SCARY when you kid runs in the street. doesn't understand to stop for her own safety.
fuck it all I quit it's not like any one believes this shit actually happened. Or that I don't have a phone. to hell with it all at least I didn't send my baby to the park with a baby.
If watching your dd is really a two person job at the park so she doesn't bolt, why were you and your husband separated and focusing on two different things? Either you are exaggerating, or this must have been an exceptionally good day for her. Is she your 7 year-old?if so, that helps clear up why you feel the need to sit outside when she plays in your yard...and it might even help explain why your view is skewed to thing that it is normal to require this for all/most 7 year olds.
I''m a mandated reporter too but the system does nothing until a bowm is broken or there is penetration. I file almost weekly and 1 time in 20 years they actually did something.
Huh. I am in MI too and have not had this experience in the reports I have made.
What part of MI are you in? I know it varies by counties even though it shouldn't. We are working to change the response time and how they communicate with us but it's been years and we haven't gotten very far.
