I did hear on NPR this morning that they pretty much have to rely on a cop testifying against a fellow cop for charges to be filed for a "rough ride" and that it's so hard b/c there aren't ways to avoid subtle or obvious retaliation in their careers.
Freddie Gray's death has been ruled a homicide and probable cause has been found to file criminal charges in the case,Baltimore City State's Attorney Marilyn Mosby said in a news conference Friday.

Sounds like it's all based on Gray's obvious need for medical attention, which was ignored, and the failure to secure him in the van five separate times.

But but but he did it to himself by tripping and falling on a guillotine!

That poor kid. This won't bring him back but just maybe the tides are turning.
I didn't count, but it is a significant amount of officers.
I think the false imprisonment charges are interesting.
Multiple officers got this charge? That seems like a good thing - especially since pennypenny was talking about the cause for arrest based on someone running is small, but even if they are "known to officers" or 10 other things, it usually sticks. Hmmmm.

Yes, multiple officers. I don't know what is required for false imprisonment, if it just means an arrest with no cause, or the keeping of him in the van despite his calls for medical attention.

There was one officer that "checked" on him when he wasn't responsive that is was stated had prior interactions with Gray--she didn't get help.
And the knife, was legal--so even if the stop/search would have been okay, they had no reason for an arrest at all.
I think only one was charged with false imprisonment.
The knife was not a switchblade. The knife he was carrying was legal in Maryland.
Just so many blatant attempts to justify these officer's actions, and they're all turning out to be lies. (not that this would be OK even if it was a switchblade)
