Advice needed... DS went to the potty (left the kitchen with us and went to the bathroom and peed in the potty) all by himself when we were distracted! I think he gets the concept when he has no undies on. However when we have undies, he thinks they are like a diaper. How do I change him from that thought process?

I don't think we have made much progress. Nothing has clicked for her. She peed in every pair of undies she owns except one. I guess I'll keep trying a few more days.

We made great strides naked, but throw the underwear on and it's all over. I think we will go back to Diapers/pull ups and try again later. I'd rather spend the effort when he's really ready vs try to force it and take months to get there.
Just my older child perspective. I did the no underwear, peeing on the floor thing for about a week then have up. About 2-3 weeks later, she woke up and said 'no diaper today' and never looked back. Maybe 3-4 accidents since then. And diaper in the bed. Until age 3. 6 months almost although Naptime diapers were about 1-2 months. Try not to compare your kid. I used to look at every kid I saw out and estimate their age and then try to see if they had a diaper on. Why? They aren't going to go to university with a diaper. And the other kid may have been potty trained at age 2 but can't stand on one foot. Great job ladies. Definitely cured my baby fever.

I agree with @hannymaren. I think when they are ready they are ready. We never did the 3 day method with DS. He went to daycare in diapers and every two hours for diaper changes everyone had to sit on the toilet. He didn't go at first, and we did nothing at home except before bath. A few months in and his pull ups were dry between changes. We gave him underwear and no accidents at school. Very few at home. There was zero stress involved.
So i guess i am just saying there are other methods. Don't worry if this one didn't pan out.
We're going to try undies this week at DC. See what happens through the weekend. I have big plans for us to be active for the first 2 weeks of June, so I may reevaluate then.

Just chatted with DCP. They've had her sit 4 times already but she still had 2 accidents Apparently the flip cover is working to keep everything contained though!
DCP sounds willing to work on it this week and we'll reevaluate once she gets back from vacation on the 15th.
In other news my husband took her to the potty at 11pm and 5am and she woke up dry. Seems like a high price to pay.
LOL, so he just plans to live like this for the next year or two? She is FINALLY SLEEPING and he's going to wake her up to save a quarter on a pull up?

I need the nope nope nope octopus for this. Everyone needs their sleep, including your daughter. I don't think interrupting the sleep of a 2yo to pee is worth it. Her bladder just isn't big enough. IMHO Developmentally I think she needs solid sleep more than underwear.
I do congratulate you @starry for having a DH that is doing the heavy lifting on potty training. Do not take my heckling of him as heckling of you. He's so enthusiastic but so crazy!

Day 4 and something magical seems to have happened. She has been dry all day and started the morning by pooping in the potty. However she did have a small poop in her underwear this afternoon. I still consider today a win so far.

I think I love you................this made my day. The idea of being stuck in the house cleaning up pee and poop literally makes me shake. How old was your DS when he truly started to get it?
Props to all of you have spent the weekend doing it. I know the method works for tons of people and you are done. Kind of like ripping off a band aid :-)

Ha. I am trying to remember. I think it was spring so maybe 2.5? Daycare did everything honesty. We switched ti underwear for naps at the same time. Night we did just recently so a little over 3

I admit that I also find the 3-day method more appealing than prolonged PTing. But I don't think I'm "underwear at night" levels of crazy. Godspeed, mr. @starry.

I did the three-day method, so I can understand that just getting it over with and hoping for the best is efficient.
But pullups for naps and bedtime are just a reasonable accommodation. I can't make my kid do things while we're both sleeping, and sleep is king around here.

Yeah I feel like I'm in hell now though. Intensity of the 3 day method plus constant vigilance and accidents
No accidents this afternoon at dc, went potty when we got home with some prodding.

Ha. I will say i don't feel like ours was prolonged. I mean i did nothing. Daycare just takes kids to the toilet every 2 hours at 2. We switched to underwear when they said and then he just went at home without asking. So it doesn't have to be prolonged torture ;-)

LOL, we don't all go to your daycare, though. My daycare does not do this. It's up to me to do the work, then she'll roll with it.

Mine did not either. They started taking him once we had already gotten the ball really rolling at home.
And what I am gathering is that it was prolonged, just not for you Kari lolol (meaning for your daycare).
Ha true. Although i am surprised your place didn't do it, since we go to the same company. Figured it be policy or something.
But yeah, i mean we got of easy. I got to admit daycare has done all the "hard" aspects of parenting for me lol. Potty training, got him to sleep in a crib, and other stuff i don't remember lol. I am a slacker ha
Yeah his new teacher is a little bit more "send him in underwear!!" So we will see how that goes. But the 2 year old room did not do it as much as I had hoped. Whomp Whomp.
Boo, did they have little potties in he 2 classroom? Maybe that changes things. I think they did all diaper changes in the bathroom vs changing table so it was simple to make them sit on the potty. I bet he will do good in underwear.
I think the 3s teachers are really into potty training because they don't want to deal with diapers and their day is too busy to take them on a regular basis.
Day 4, zero accidents. By George I think he's got it! He was with my mom all day and had no trouble using the potty with her. I'm going to take him to the toy store tomorrow for a big reward.

DCP is having him try to potty on the toilet at set intervals. Today, he sat without a problem each time, but never peed. She will continue trying this. So, we tried 3 day and now are moving into the extended day. Whenever he is home, we will probably try no diaper.
So he's done 2 days straight with no accidents. How many more days should I be asking him if he needs to pee and if his undies are dry? When should I assume he's "trained" and will use the potty of his own volition without me asking if he needs to?

DS sat on the potty at daycare all day when asked to (every 20ish minutes) but never pottied. He was in a diaper too. Then, he finally peed during nap (at the end... it was warm when she checked right after he woke up). He stayed diaper dry all afternoon too. When he got home, DH asked if he wanted to try to go potty and he said yes and sat on potty and peed after 5-10 minutes. After going to the pool with DH, he came home and asked to go potty and peed immediately in the potty. So, we definitely have progress. I don't know if he isn't peeing at DC because he is an "only at home person" or what .
Tomorrow she is going to try undies and a flips cover over it.
So we decided that we were going to wait until later this summer to give DD time to get used to the baby. Plus we transitioned her to her big girl bed this weekend and don't want too much change at once.
Daycare decided they were going to put her on the potty this week and she's doing great. Two dry diapers, one wet but only a little and peed on the potty and one poopy diaper. I'm totally letting them take the reigns with this. I guess I'll buy pull-ups next time I go to Costco.
Have more faith in your DH and your DD. He read the books, he's doing the work and you're throwing stones and undermining his confidence (and hers).
IMO the 5 am pee is unnecessary, but a dream pee (the 11 pm) pee is totally within the realm of teaching her this new skill of waking up when she has to pee. She's never had to associate night time peeing with waking up before. If he's okay with it, then why are you bringing him down?
Really? It's about confidence? That's what night training is about?
