I am glad you found him! How weird his tags were missing! I hate the noise of tags, and my pooch has a metal plate with all the info right on his collar. Maybe Friendly got his tags caught on something? So glad he is safe
I have a beagle. I assume you think I'm equally stupid for having an outlet for my scent hound to get into the backyard without my supervision? Good thing at 13 years old she's still hanging around.
Absolutely YES - I would never, ever let a scent hound out without supervision - not even if I owned ACRES of land, and certainly not if I lived next to a road.
Oh great, I'm so glad he is safe. My heart stopped when I saw the title. Having seen your set-up, I can see why you felt it okay to leave the door open. TOTS your comments where unnecessarily cruel
The door between the house and the fenced yard? So the dog could enjoy the outdoors and yet also seek shelter and food if need be? Yeah, that's C-RAZY.
Is it a magical fence that is impervious to intruders?
I feel bad for stpete and hope Friendly comes home soon, but let's not pretend this is not weird. Her home was wide open into the wee hours of the morning and she came home drunk. Anyone could have been waiting in her house at 1 am. This is a really bizarre thing to do.
Yeah, I am surprised more people don't think this is weird. ML basically thought I was a freak for leaving my doors unlocked during the day while I was home, but somehow leaving a door wide open a night when no one is home is normal?

Ok.
I should probably tell you that I'm the person who has, sadly, had to pick up multiple dogs out of the road after they've been hit.
A scent hound and a working dog will run until their bodies give out. They are not the kind of dogs for which you leave a door open.
Have some of you lost your minds? Lol, it's fucking weird up in here.
I'm glad he was found safe, stpete. What a relief.
Leaving a door to your house wide open, while you go out drinking, is weird, period. It is very unsafe, regardless of the dog.
I don't know if this will make a difference to most of you but this isn't a door you'd be able to see from the front. I don't even remember being able to see the backyard from the front. You have to already be inside to have access. At any rate, I'm sure it won't happen again. You can never be too careful
He is chipped and also all greyhoubds have ear tattoos and his number is register to me. If he had been taken to a shelter they would have found me.
Fortunate - maybe next time just leave the front door open so he doesn't have to risk jumping the fence?
What are you getting out of this? If you're trying to change anyone's mind, you might want to consider saying things that aren't condescending or assholeish.

I'm glad Friendly is home safe.
You already said that before, so there is no need for anymore nasty/snarky comments unless you have another motive for posting/something else you want to get out of this. We all get loud and clear that you think @stpete made a bad choice. She likely already has noted changes she'll make in a future similar situation because of her experience - no more accusations about her as a pet owner (direct or passive aggressive) are needed.

I'm glad he's home, stpete. Interesting about the tattoos, too. It makes sense, but I'd never thought about that before. Does he realize he was lost? I'm picturing him never leaving your side again!
