I know she said you don't need to buy boxes and stuff but I will probably cheat and use skubb things from Ikea. I dont have time to just happen upon all these boxes and dividers.
I just did pajamas and work out clothes. I didn't get rid of as much as I thought I would but I think I got rid of 6 shirts, 4 pants and 2 bras. In the next little bit I might get rid of some more things because I still have 4 of each tanks tops, short sleeve shirts and long sleeve shirts. I only get to work out 3 days a week anymore so I don't need that much. But I figure I have the seasons covered. Also, I have 6 sports bras but I dont know what my boobs will look like when I wean, other than sad. How do you fold sports bras?!?!
We have those and they are perfect!
Re: sports bras. I fold the straps down to the bottom of the band, then fold in half/thirds.

And they actually stand up? Mine just seem so awkward and fall over.

I've finally finished all of my clothes. I now have 12(!) garbage bags of clothes, one of purses and other accessories, and a box of shoes ready to donate. Sadly, that is all from my clothes, none of it is H's or DD's. I also have 2 bags of bras that I am holding on to until my boobs level off after weaning, so I can see if any of them fit again. (Yes, I admit, I buy too many bras if I could potentially be getting rid of 2 bags full of them!)
I was hoping to start books today, but most of them are in the guest room where H is currently sleeping off a nasty stomach bug, so I can't start that until he's better.

I've KonMaried my socks. I don't wear them during summer so no clue if they'll stay clean and organized once I do start wearing them... but I like it a lot.
I also did H's and he said "I actually really like having my socks like this. Easier to match my work pants." I asked him if it sparked joy and he rolled his eyes lol
ShaysMomma - This is the book I was talking about. This thread will awe and inspire you!
Ooh awesome, thanks for the link-in ! I actually had this on the "to get" list of errands today but didnt get there. I was thinking a hard copy might be better for us since I can lovingly force DH to read it too. I look forward to reading this thread.

We took 4 large garbage bags to donate Friday morning. They've been in the corner of our bedroom driving me nuts for weeks since I did the last of my clothes. DH filled a bag and a half in about 5 minutes with only a slight mention. "I can do it right now," he said, and walked right to his closet!
The special folding of the shirts is NOT working for me. Takes too long. Requires a flat surface. Shit keeps falling over in my drawer. My drawers are slightly too shallow for quartering them and they catch each time I open/close it. Plus I have multiple white Ts, for example, of various brands, lengths, or necklines, for layering under various cardis. I need to see more than a 1"x4" white rectangle sticking up. Same thing for plain black T vs black T with lace...

Oh! But I have started to go through DS's baby through 4T clothes. 3 different friends will get stuff this week. Best friend's son gets 3T, 4T; another friend's son gets 2T, and another expecting friend is getting Newborn to 24m.
It's making it easier to part with former favs.
I will have to go through the keep piles again and be more realistic about what boy/neutral clothes I am actually likely to dress DD in and are worth keeping, because that pile is growing faster than it should. Yes, she COULD wear these grey sweats in 2 years, but WILL she?

I konmaried my primary pantry. I had lots of stuff in there that I "should" eat but did not really like so I tossed it. I made places for everything, which will make it so much easier to put things away. I am feeling the joy!

DH dropped off 3 huge bags yesterday to the local shelter. He said they were very appreciative & especially excited about the ~100 pull ups & diapers in big kid sizes.
We have a long ways to go but it feels nice to get stuff out of the house. And it really made us feel good to donate to someone that truly needs it vs. Goodwill.

I seriously think this book is the only reason DH and I are staying sane during my busiest semester ever. My actual work schedule sucks this semester, and I'm working a ton after the kids go to bed, too. We still have a long way to go on fully decluttering the house, but we got through so many categories before I went back to work that it's been fairly easy to stay on top of keeping the house in order even with my crazy schedule.
Today is garage sale day in town. My neighbor is selling stuff so I stuck my full size bed, 2 end tables and 2 chairs on the lawn and now they are gone. Woo-hoo. I'm starting to declutter our guest bedroom so I can move dd1 in there.
I finally read the book and have gone through my clothes and my books so far. I ended up with 3 bags to donate and 1 bag of trash. I wish I could get my husband to go through his stuff. He probably has at least triple the amount of clothes I have.

Bumping.
I finally read the book but I knew all the good parts thanks to this thread.
I really want to get rid of 50% of or belongings but it's easier said than done.
I really wish I didn't register for wedding China and 12 massive wine glasses. Should I just get rid of them or will o want it one day? $150 a place setting. Ugh
I am reading the book now (finally.) I've purged my kids' closets and my own, getting rid of about half of my clothes. I have to work on toys and other misc, but just having less in my closet is a great start.

Does it spark joy? If so, keep it....but if you're feeling torn perhaps keep a smaller quantity. How often will you really need 12 wine glasses? Maybe 4 feels more joyful to you than 12? Remove the monetary value from your brain as much as possible when choosing what to keep. Otherwise you'll make yourself sick and keep too many things you don't actually want out of guilt over the money "wasted."
We didn't have fancy china but I did ditch the dishes we got for our wedding. For some reason the plates were always like 1/4" too large to allow a cabinet to close (we're on our third residence since getting married, so the plates were the issue, not one random weird cabinet in one house). I was glad to be rid of them.

I was feeling the same way about mine. We have been married 8 years and I never unpacked them since I felt like I had to have a very special event to use them. I have now decided to forget that and use them any time I feel like it ie date night, in laws or anyone visiting, or just because. I like them and like looking at them so I am going to use them.

What does this mean!?! Do you have more than one pantry?
yes, one in the basement as well. I have a big family so a box of cereal is gone in a day. I stock-up to minimize grocery shopping.
I've gone through all my clothes. I do feel like I could have been more cut throat but I have 3 bags to be donated. All my maternity is ready to be washed and sent to consignment. We are done with kids but I'm struggling to actually pull the trigger on that. We really need to buy our new dressers so that I can fold up my clothes nice and neat. Our current dressers are over 30 years old, don't match and the drawers are not very tall so I can't fold jeans in that space. Alas, I have no idea how we would fit them into our vehicle and get them home from IKEA.
My goal this weekend is to drop off the box of stuff in my car to goodwill. Its been in my car for 2 days so this is a lofty goal. And Im cleaning off the top of my guest room dresser. Baby steps.
Im also working on my digital photos which are a mess. My goal is to move everything onto my external harddrive under files for each year. I have 4 hard drives with photos and files all over the place. I also would lie to edit a couple more days of photos and get them ready to print. Last week I sent 2 small print orders off to test some new labs. So I need to also look at these and pick a lab.
sorry i am bumping this but i didn't want to make a new post on ml when there are so many here who have already done this. also i'm only halfway through this massive thread...so sorry if something like this was already addressed.
what do i do with unwanted personalized bibles? i'm not religious in any way and i have up to five bibles/bible study things (?gifted by mil.) obviously will donate the unmarked ones but i have a precious moments bible with my name on it from when i was a kid, a huge study bible with my husband's and my full names, and a bible with a personalized note written on the inside cover w my full name. my husband is religious and will probably make me keep one of them but what do i do w the rest? i feel weird donating a bible with my name. also, the precious moments bible has some scribbles/drawings on some pages thanks to 7 year old me. i have weird feelings about throwing away a bible, but will do it if others say it is no big deal.

Ooh, that's a tough one. I have way too much Catholic guilt to throw out a bible, so I've always donated in the past. Could you rip out the page with your name on it (I have no idea if that's considered an Ok thing to do with a bible), or cover up your name with a blank label if it's on the cover? If you're not comfortable donating, maybe you could try contacting a church to ask their preferred method of getting rid of them? Or see if they would like them as donations?

I haven't read this book but does it give tips on how to clean the closet under the stairs which is occupied not by Harry Potter but by a million spiders
dcannie - we had a ton of bibles and I just blacked out our names and any person information then gave them to a charity that hands out bibles for free. They were more than happy to get them, sharpied up or not.

If the spiders don't bring you joy then they should go
I thought we were pretty well done with our house, we pulled everything out, made decisions, organized everything back into closets and drawers, then last night h suggested we do it again. I'm the type that would live in a white room with bar walls so I'm all for it, but it shocked me coming from him. I'll be interested to see how much progress we make with a second pass.

My h is like "your goal is to make it look like no one lives here, isn't it?"
