I want to buy my kid an atrocious plastic toddler bed, but all the awesome ones are boy-ish--pirate ships and race cars! Why don't they have anything cool like that for girls?
My kid would love the pirate bed and totally scoff at a princess or girly bed. What is she in to?
O.k., with all this talk about both McD's and sweet-salty, how has no one mentioned the McGriddle breakfast sandwich? Do you guys not have those? I could eat one for breakfast every.damn.day.

I haven't had any kind of McD's anything in years. Tell me more about the McGriddle.

It's only bacon, egg and cheese on a maple flavoured griddle cake - hello?!!
Here's my confession about car seats: every time I consider switching DD I go watch the video that shows what their necks do when they are FF and that is enough for me to put up with her back there.
I have never watched that video, but am sticking to the bucket seat until we buy a car. There's just too much possibility of the convertible seat (RFing) sliding around in cabs or different rentals, depending on the car itself and I honestly felt like the only way to consistently get a solid install with DD was when I turned her FFing. At this point, I figure DS can stick it out in the bucket seat for the few months more it takes us to get our car-buying act together. He's only 30th percentile for height and weight and doesn't look to my, admittedly untrained, eye like he has outgrown it. But I hate that my options right now are bucket or FFing convertible unless I reserve the rental far enough ahead of time to guarantee the model that I know I can get a good RFing install in.
Not to mention motion sickness and plain boredom. We'll keep ds2 RF until close to 2 I imagine (or if he starts fighting the carseat) but I certainly don't intend to extended RF.
I actually feel like DS should be more comfortable RF'ing - I would be. It's reclined better if he falls asleep, and his legs aren't just dangling. The seat is big enough that he is neither squatting nor cross legged, it's just like he's sitting and his feet touch the back seat.
I would imagine this is kid and carseat specific. Although we are only in the car for 20 minutes twice a day, and less on weekends.
DS props his feet on the front seat so basically he sits the same as he,does RF
I wish Dunks would get it together and find a way to serve better eggs. They have the worst English muffins too, and they're never toasted well. The croissant is pretty good though.
I wish they'd stop trying to be creative, and just make the basic stuff right. No one wants your chicken sandwiches, Dunks! I was desperate and had their coffee recently, and it tastes like what I can only assume burnt feet would taste like. Blech.
I really don't want my FIL at my house after we have the baby. He annoys the shit out of me, lazing about, yawning, and complaining about being tired constantly. He also trashes my house and complains. He's a nice person but I just don't need added stress. I told my husband if he wants to stay longer than two nights he needs to go to a hotel (we'll pay). My mom thinks I am being a bitch but I don't really care.
I actually think FIL would be happy to just leave MIL here and go back to his house and pick her up a week later, so hopefully that happens.
ETA: To add to the theme MIL refuses to drive here herself even though it is only a four hour, 98% easy highway drive. That would pretty much solve all the problems.
WTF is it with MILs who refuse to drive? Seriously grow a pair.
I recently learned my MIL has never driven on a "super highway" - that is what she called them. But we are talking like a regular interstate. I have no idea how she functions and gets to work everyday.
I have two aunts that didn't drive - but they lived in the city of Chicago and had public transportation (also are old like 90 so different generation).
All this driving talk makes me want to stand up and defend all of my friends who don't drive at all and myself of 5 years ago who had extreme anxiety at the thought of driving a car with my child in it. It probably didn't help that she screamed bloody murder in a car until she was about 18 months old, but I still didn't put myself behind the wheel of a car with her in the back seat until she was 3 years old. Which I know is not normal, but I had to work through all my feelings with a therapist and eff anyone who tries to flame me for that.
Anxiety is real. However, the name of the game is to not inflict your anxieties on innocent bystanders. In my case and the case of my non-driving friends, we found work-arounds via public transportation and cabs. We do not expect our family members to shuttle us around everywhere. Nonetheless, I do genuinely feel bad for people who get anxiety driving and prefer that they stay away from a car if they're likely to have a panic attack at the wheel.
My in laws don't drive and it is a wicked pain, my H has to shuttle them around a lot too. I guess my flameful is that I super judge my FIL. He's old school traditional and when MIL was young, she took driving lessons to get a license to have as an ID, but FIL never let her actually drive so she never really leaned how. Now FIL can't drive due to his vision, but MIL is in great health and if she had ever really learned, their life would be so much better. And of course, ours selfishly. my mom is like the complete opposite of her, she is so independent while MiL is so submissive. I just can't imagine and our parents have very similar backgrounds (both immigrants). I guess it makes me proud of my mom who worked hard to assert herself.
Well I did not say anything about choosing DD because it's healthy, you assumed. My meat-eating consists of poultry and lamb so that eliminates the sausage at McD's so turkey sausage at DD is actually an option for me. Also I like the egg white patty. I think the veggie bits make it interesting. For me, my options at DD are better. All I can usually get at McD's is an Egg McMuffin. I mean if I'm going to be eating eggs and cheese, I may as well eat it on a croissant at DD. I could get McD's southern style chicken biscuit but I'm pretty sure my brother did an exhausting search one year and concluded that the ones in this area don't carry that. Oh wait, DD has it! I don't really like it though so I almost never get it.
DD's "eggs" (I use that term loosely) are packaged and microwaved, vs McD's cooked fresh on the grill. I hardly ever get McD's because there's a Dunks on about every corner around here, and I don't do fast food breakfast often, but if we're comparing egg n cheese sandwiches McDs wins hands down. I wish Dunks would get it together and find a way to serve better eggs. They have the worst English muffins too, and they're never toasted well. The croissant is pretty good though.
YES. DD's breakfast sandwiches always taste plastic to me. And the bread is beyond gross. Somehow it manages to be both soft AND crispy because of over-microwaving. (Compared to the farm-fresh, seasonal McD's sandwiches... heh)
Plus one to Muddled and @marshmallows re: deli breakfast rolls.
And Velar Fricative, I'm really sorry. You've been through so much. I hope you get through this month (and beyond) OK.

This isn't possible with our car configuration. But anyway... I do find it odd that any one person can proclaim one way to be more comfortable than another when thereare so many variables.
Oh yeah I was just saying he was obviously comfortable RF since he sits the same way lol
