I blame all of you for the junk I bought on my lunchtime grocery store run, including the bag of Skittles that I've already finished. Oh well at least my serotonin was increased slightly and I no longer feel like I'm about to cry. That's for lightening my day
My dad used to make "rice, sugar and cinnamon" for breakfast for my siblings and me. It was, literally, white minute rice drowned in white milk, with liberal additions of sugar and cinnamon. I have no idea where it came from, but I LOL forever when I think about how absolutely nutritionally void it was.
I like the guacamole powder packets that you mix up with a couple of mashed avocados. So salty, mmmm.
Really? What do you eat for treats/crappy for you comfort food?
Even Martha Stewart once admitted to eating raw Pop-Tarts.
I haven't had Pop-Tarts in more than 5 years. And the only ones I ever had were the brown sugar ones. Those are good I just never eat them.
Ice cream would be my comfort food I guess. I do like chocolate muffins and Ghiradelli dark chocolate brownies. Other than that I don't really like chocolate. I know I eat junk, I just can't think of what and it is nothing listed here. ha.
I am going to have to go through the post again, because now this is making me sound sad.
ETA: Ok I went back and re-read. Why I don't know because I gagged a few times. But I think part of it is I don't eat meat so that eliminates like half of what is mentioned.
If I had to pick one thing that I like that people think is gross it would be cinnamon graham crackers with sharp cheddar cheese. It is that mix of slightly sweet/slightly salty. I love that. Is that acceptably gross WOUNDTIGHT and RockNVoll?
That is gross. I would say boxed brownies aren't good either. But I really quoted because the brown sugar pop tarts are the kind my DS likes. And I don't get it at all lol. If I were going to eat pop tarts, I would go for fruit. I don't like how the brown sugar looks.
I eat more cereal than a grown up lady should. I try to stick with more adult brands at least, but I usually end up with crap. I also have a weakness for certain cereals with warm milk. It makes me feel so cozy in the winter, but H thinks it's gross.

Torn with the first one. It kind of reminds me of when people put sugar in grits which is gross, because grits are meant to be savory only. On the other hand, it reminds me even more of rice pudding, which is obviously delicious (although, I can see how many people would have issues with the texture).
I don't know what those packets are, but they don't sound appealing.
Mr. P mixes grape jelly in his grits. Vom. He's fucked up. Yes---sfy Savory grits or not at all. Shrimp and Cheese grits? Yup.
He also loves maple syrup on his ice cream. Too sweet for me, I gag.
Bacon cheddar grits are the best! Sweet grits are just - bleck.
Also am I the only one who made "homemade" mint chocolate chip ice cream as a kid by taking the plain vanilla? It was vanilla ice cream scopped into a bowl, pouring creme de menthe (liquor) over it and throwing a handful of mini chocolate chips in the bowl. Soften slightly so you can mix it all together and then eat.

Wtf Mr. Pom? That sounds like a nightmare .
My husband likes sweet grits too, but he often gets screwed because I like to make my grits with 1/2 chicken broth instead of water and 1/2 cream, before I add all the cheese and pepper.
I don't like mint chocolate chip, but that sounds not half bad even to me,explorer2001.
When DH and I were in college we ate A LOT of Tuna Helper. We never liked Hamburger Helper, but for some reason we loved the Tuna version. I'd probably still like it but haven't bought it in years because it reminds me of being young and broke and going grocery shopping at Big Lots.
We also don't like the Kraft blue box, but do eat a lot of the Annie's and NatureSomething boxed mac&cheeses.
I also usually make spaghetti with Newman's Own jarred sauce.
FWIW, I do make real mac&cheese and real spaghetti sauce a few times per year.
I ate Tuna Helper in college because my roommate brought it into our apartment. Never again!
I generally approve of Newman's Own products. I've found them to be consistently good. We sometimes use jarred pasta sauce because it's easy on the weeknights. Chosen well, jarred pasta sauce is not inherently offensive - it just needs to start with good ingredients.
It's not comparable to box mac and cheese - I COULD make a bunch of homemade pasta sauce and can it. I don't. But I could. I could never make that powdered cheese mix myself.
My mom made us "toasty pancakes".....toast topped with peanut butter and drizzled with maple syrup (that we harvested ourselves.)
My Grandma used to make an amazing salad- cauliflower, iceberg, bacon, cheddar, and some sort of mild onions, all finally chopped and bathed in a Miracle Whip and sugar mixture. I never had a clue it was MW until I grew up and got the recipe. It's so gross, but I after sitting with the salad for an hour or so the flavored all mesh and it tastes nothing like Miracle Whip.
She also made an amazing pineapple bread pudding out of white sandwich bread, mixed with crushed pineapple and a few other ingredients, baked and glazed.
Glazed pineapple bread pudding...that sounds kind of wonderful. Most of the oddities (no pickles/PB/ice cream though and no Vienna sausages) in this post sound amazing. Aaand I wonder why I'm fat.

There is this interesting intersection of "I totally eat that," "I could ABSOLUTELY eat that, and now really, really want it," and "OMG you put that in your mouth?" going on in my head as I read this thread. I don't know whether to laugh, puke or go to the grocery store.

Its called Arroz con Leche. You can find it at any Mexican Panaderia or grocery store. Sounds like your dad made a quick improvised version of the real thing.

What my family called "green fluff": -container or two of Cool Whip -package of pistachio flavored Jell-O pudding -package mini marshmallows -large can of crushed Dole pineapple

My dad made white rice, butter and brown sugar. It was tasty.
Bottom line: we were all fed some nasty shit growing up.
Though, sfy, the Ghiradelli brownie mix is amaaaazing.
I have had it before! I think I just don't like boxed brownies.
True. Most people didn't start feeding their children like humans until the 00s lol.
I feel deprived, my parents didn't feed us any of this stuff growing up. We were forced to eat all natural peanut butter and whole wheat bread while all the cool kids were eating white bread, Jif, and Smuckers among other things.

No way, you were winning! Your parents were ahead of their time. My parents were pretty good about a few things, but I spent enough time after school at my grandparents that it was a wash. I could have probably had a beer there lol.

As an adult I certainly appreciate it, but as a kid it sucked
I thought of another one: one of my bizarre comfort foods is a bowl of pasta noodles, balsamic vinaigrette, and feta cheese.
I'm pretty sure tacos hates feta, right?
Correct! I do hate feta! Despite this, your concoction sounds less terrifying than many of the things named in this thread. They are all real foods, and foods I can even see going together at that. I just do not like feta at all. And I only like vinegar in small amounts so I'd rather put butter on my noodles.

I never use box cake mix (always homemade) but for some reason brownies (really anything chocolate flavored) intimidate me. And I agree, the Ghirardelli box is so yum.
