Closing costs to refinance. We're dropping down to a 15 year, which will have our mortgage paid off just in time to start putting all of that money toward college tuition payments!
We don't really have anything planned other than the expenses of the holidays- traveling for Thanksgiving and the gift bonanza that is Christmas/Hanukkah around here. Maybe DH & I should sit down and discuss that pretty soon!
We did just pay about $4000 for a basement renovation, and we received a $3500 bid on some plumbing. Those two items would make our E fund pretty low, so I think we'll be laying low for a while. DH's car isn't in the best shape, either, but it'll be at least a year before we could realistically afford our desired minivan. And then there's talk of TTC in 2016, so, yah, we're broke!!
Apparently squirrel removal to the tune of $350-$750. DAMMIT.
I am considering refinancing to a 15 year mortgage though... Big decision.
We did that two years ago and it has been so worth it! We'll have our house paid off by the time I'm 45 and our monthly payment only went up $200/mon.
We did a huge DIY renovation (that took us 2 yrs *cough*) and had the house reappraised. We gained a ton of sweat equity in the rooms we renovated to the tune of x3 what we spent. All in we had sunk in a ton of money into maintenence and mechanical systems prior (new roof, geothermal system, etc) so we are still ahead by quite a bit.
H is going to buy an ice castle within the next year, it will be around $16k. He works a ton of extra shifts, but I wish we could use the $ for a fun vacation. I think he will have all of his hunting/fishing needs covered after this purchase.
Otherwise we are going to pay off our remaining $7k in special assessments.

We are so boring.
I am happy I kept reading to see that the 16k ice castle was related to hunting/fishing because I could then infer that it wasn't ACTUALLY a castle made of ice. Thank God.

Haha, yes I would not approve of that. It is basically a super insulated camper with minimal amenities.
