I founds the Tom reappearance so annoying - did they really have to crash the wedding? snarky recap was right - totally stole the thunder of the Carsons. I'm not that into Tom though, admittedly. He's OK but I wasn't devastated when he left.
Absolutely! Let Carson and Hughes have their day. Reunion would have been just as sweet a couple hours later.
And I say this even being as happy as anyone that Tom is back.
...I think there was something heart-related in a past season? They're all a blur to me since I've only watched through 1x. ...
I thought we were meant to assume it was his heart, but his doctor said it wasn't anything to worry about (like indigestion?)
But, I won't be surprised if he dies this season. It's not like we haven't lost other beloved characters and he will have the hardest time of any of them with closing Downton*.
*if my as-yet-unspoiled prediction turns out to be correct.
Alo, Edith was fabulous this episode! I don't even care about the nice man; she really came into her own with the magazine and flat and I think she can learn to be happy.
I did a PBS quiz - but I only got one character - Mrs. Hughes. I will take it. I like the new found backbone she's grown in standing up for herself for the type of wedding she wants.
If I had gotten Daisy, I would have had to retake the quiz lol

It was two separate quizzes for the upstairs and downstairs characters.

Ahh! Be back then...
ETA: I got Cora. I don't know how I feel about this. I feel like I should take the quiz again.
The quiz made me giggle: "My favorite internet activity is... arguing on message boards."
ETA: I'm an Edith upstairs! PBS gives the following pep talk: "Something is finally about you: you are Lady Edith! With more strength than you give yourself credit for, you handle adversity first with tears, and then with grit. Juggling career and family, decked out in head-to-toe glamour, you wear your heart on your sleeve. May someone worthy, finally, take your heart and truly make it all about you."
raangoli if I were as grumpy as Bates all the time, I'd be worried about Anna finding someone else too.
I never liked that union. I always felt that she was getting a little short changed...he's much older, had a LOT of baggage, was handicapped - in a time when that was a real issue, and then he's grumpy all the time to boot.
The saddest part of the whole thing right now for me is Mr. Molesley...he clearly "missed his vocation" as the teacher pointed out, he seems to love learning so much, I always saw him as somewhat stupid and it turns out he was just hiding his light under a bushel basket in order to get along.
Also, Spratt and Denker need to just have a wild roll in the hay that they will never speak of again and get it over with.
Speaking of awesome things (which is basically the point of this whole thread), this line reminds me of one of my all time favorite movies, The Cutting Edge. When Doug is getting fitted for the ridiculous costume.
sfyaurora, yeah, but those actors wanted to leave the show (ha, idiots. what have they done lately?) so that wasn't as heartbreaking b/c it was a "forced kill."
But you KNOW hugh loves playing lordy-lord. he struts around perfectly! that is no acting. so killing him off is really tough, in my mind.

Robert reminds me of my dad. Please don't kill him lol.
I do miss Matthew, though. Sybil's death was gut-wrenching, but I don't miss her character, really. Things got more interesting for Tom once she was gone.

Hilarious!
Re Bates - I like him more now than I did before (although, I never hated him as much as most people do lol).
I feel like after they killed Sybil there's nothing they can do to surprise me.
I still don't forgive them for doing this.
I watched that episode about 3 months after giving birth to our daughter and omfg it was so traumatic! And if read spoilers so I knew what was going to happen!

I still don't forgive them for killing Matthew. The last couple seasons have been meh for me but I really love this season so far! I got Cora and Mrs. Hughes on the quizzes.
