And now WE are in agreement. Alicia can't sing. She screams and yells. At least Beyonce screams on key. Alicia should stick to the keys.
Yes! I'm late, but this is why I hate Girl On Fire. I mean, the message is great, but she just hollers. It hurts.
I saw Alicia in concert twice. The second time the tix were gifted because I wouldn't have purchased them again. Both concerts were "meh". Her backup singers were DOPE though.
And since we are talking Destiny's Child, I saw Michelle perform in a gospel tour after they broke up. She was AWFUUUUL!!! She was doing that Rihanna bleat. **shudder**
I'm with @nitax , Bey will go down as an icon just like the big dogs. Her music stays relevant and she is a beast on stage. No one can come through like Bey on a stage. A window fan can reach out and catch some of her weave and she just keeps singing like, what. She'll fall down and turn that into a dance move. I'm definitely on Team She Should Never Do Interviews, but as an entertainer, she is amazing.

I liked Formation, it's catchy and the video is fantastic. But I mostly listen to metal, so my opinion is means not much. I'm suddenly feeling real defensive of Alicia Keyes, though, 'cause people tell me I look like her sister.
I've gotta say, after her Superbowl appearance, BabyLiu is the newest member of the Bey Hive. I wish I could upload the crappy video I took of her trying to do her dance moves.
IF Beyonce is targeting younger people -- I'm not sure I agree with that -- it's because that's who is on social media posting memes and keeping conversation going about her. Think about it, half of the people here are still saying "how do I use twitter?" when the kids have moved on to Snapchat and so on. The way you grow a business is by attracting new customers.
Plus, one's career should always evolve, especially in music. No one* wants to hear an artist rehash the same old shit. But Bey's music hasn't sounded the same in quite a long time. Every album is different. It's not targeting a younger audience. It's keeping current with the sound. Bey wants radio play and she's not going to get by recording different versions of Love on Top which imo, wasn't Bey as much as a throwback to a time in music for black women, not a representative sound for Beyonce.

I so agree with this. Because again, I hated, HATED that ratchet ass Diva song. Bey got me back with that secret album drop, because Pretty Hurts was powerful to me. And the video gave me chills. The only thing about Bey that is the same is that she makes music to make you dance. I feel like she KNOWS women are going to run up on the dance floor talking bout 'OOOHHHHH THAT'S MY JAM!!!!"

Some of her slow ones, too. I love Flaws and All and No Angel. And when Superpower comes on, every one needs to shh, so I can get into my zone.
"The halftime show I thought was ridiculous anyway. I don't know what the heck it was. A bunch of people bouncing around and all strange things. It was terrible," Giuliani said.
I fully expected it to be followed up by long, pointless story about how the kaiser took all the yellow onions.

"This is football, not Hollywood," he said, "and I thought it was really outrageous that she used it as a platform to attack police officers who are the people who protect her and protect us, and keep us alive."
Well the point of the message is that there are some police officers doing the exact opposite. But it is not surprising that it was completely lost on him.
I love Bey. I need for her to go back to some lyrics that aren't quite as raunchy. If you can't make it into a Kids Bop song I will never be able to listen to it in the car. That being said I needed Flawless when I was separated. It was my pump myself up song while I walked into work so I could put on a good face. And of course NitaX, 123fif, summer, iammalcolmx and smo spent a good amount of time reminding me to tell exH his shit would be in a box to tha left lol.
What I do know is that Formation is going on my workout track. I needed to be reminded that I SLAY BITCH when it's bathing suit time. Because YES. Honey, Imma be on that beach SLAYING. Then I'mma look at my girls and say "Ok Ladies, Let's get in Formation"
I can't understand why supporting BLM means that you hate cops.
Stop using logic.
Because in their minds, black folks should just do what cops say and we wouldn't die. The.End. Any black person who is pulled over/stopped by police had it coming and therefore they can't seem to wrap their minds around basic provisions and protections of said thugs.
I can't understand why supporting BLM means that you hate cops.
People have to believe that. Otherwise they have to come to grips with the fact that they indeed don't think Black lives matter and no one but the hooded ones want to look themselves in the mirror and think that.
In my mind the people who make this assumption are the exact same as those "regular looking" middle class-ish White Americans in bobby socks and poodle skirts who spit on, stomped on, and beat the ish out of Black children trying to desegregate schools. They try to look the part of a decent and fair American, but they aren't and have no intention of being. Because it's not rocket science to understand that BLM doesn't mean blue lives don't. That right there is willful ignorance.
I am not a Bey fan, but I love this song, the message, the video, everything. And I loved the halftime show - the utter glee I felt when Bey and Bruno were getting down and then Chris Martin popped his nerdy puppy dog face right in the middle of it...I need to go watch it again.
Welp it looks like my FB friends list is going to get shorter by one person who shared this bs. link (and the comments, omfg I hate people)
Eta: on second thought, I'm not going to drop her or hide her but instead keep this in mind and try to have an in person conversation the next time we see each other. Shutting out those perpetuating racist thoughts and memes won't help anyone.
I just need to know if "I twirl on them haters" is a nod to Kenya Moore. I NEED TO KNOW.
I think so, because have you ever seen the clip of Yonce talking about Kenya and her twirl? It's hilarious. The thing is, whether it is or isn't, I fully expect Kenya to think it is .
I came in here expecting a Beyonce love fest... Guys, Beyonce is everything. She evolves, she drops entire albums by surprise like "oh this old thing, here you go" when people like Taylor Swift (who I also like) promote their albums from the rooftops for months and months ad nauseum. And that video! So powerful. So few videos can be that hot AND politically charged.
Usually a lurker, but a friend from HS just posted this article on FB and it hit home for me. Also, a nice counter point to that ridiculousness from Giuliani.

FTR, I loved the video and her Super Bowl performance, but I'm going to go ahead and keep enjoying it from the bleachers.
Ooohweeee, this right here:
" Our ancestors signed away that right when they signed their names to contracts that said they owned human beings or signed tabs in restaurants that didn’t allow “colored people.”
summer - Not gonna lie, I literally cringed when I read that part. As you said, there is truth there and sometimes having someone smack you in the face with it really sucks. But is also necessary.
And Bey as a person seems pretty amazing as well. $7 million for a homeless shelter in Houston, $1.5 million to Black Lives Matter, a fund for the long-term effects of lead poisoning for the children of Flint, the Survivor Foundation to help victims of Hurricane Katrina, Chime for Change to empower women and girls through education/health/justice. This woman is incredible. Even if you don't care for her music (although you should care about the message she is trying to spread through it), you should appreciate just how much she cares about others and puts her money where her mouth is as far as social issues are concerned.
