Lots and lots of people fail the 1 hr and pass the 3hr! My bff was in the same situation as you, and so I did a bunch of research to reassure her. Apparently only 1 in 4 or 1 in 5 of people who fail the 1hr actually have GD, so you have a very good chance of passing the 3hr (especially since you were so close to the acceptable range).

Yep! I failed the one hour with this one and passed the 3. Just FYI, my doc told me the longer I wait between taking the 3 hour after taking the 1 hour, the more likely I was to fail the 3 hour.
The 1 hour screen casts a wide net and catches all the pregnant women who might have GD; the 3 hour test is used to actually diagnose GD. So yes, plenty of women "fail" the 1 hour and pass the 3 hour.
I wasn't one of them; I did have GD and spent the rest of my pregnancy finger sticking, counting carbs, and ketone testing. It wasn't fun, but the worst part was the worry that it hadn't been caught soon enough and might have affected Hobbes. (It didn't.) As for the actual drudgery, it was short term, and I'm glad I knew I had it so I could manage it.
No way to tell you odds, it's all about your particular hormones. If you don't have GD, wonderful, go forth and enjoy cupcakes. If you do have GD, it's ok, and those of us who have been there can give you diet suggestions to get you through.
It happened to me. I ate a crappy sugary breakfast before the 1hr and failed, and ate a good, protein-heavy breakfast before the 3hr and passed (mine were not fasting tests).

I just went through this last week - I failed the one hour with a 157. Passing for my doc is under 130 but actually being diagnosed with GD is over 200.
Went on Friday for the 3 hour and passed. Bring a lot to do.

You had to actually sit at the doctors for 3 hours?! I'm glad you passed!

I had to sit at the quest lab and it was honestly almost 4 hours. They needed to do a fasting draw. I made a 9:30 appointment and they told me when I got there to let them know right away. I got there at 9:15 but they told me they wouldn't do the fasting draw until 9:30. That of course turned in to 9:45 since they were back with other people at 9:30. Then I needed to drink the drink whcih finally started the clock. And of course they weren't ever available right on the hour so I wasn't done until a little after 1. That was 9 days after spending an hour plus there the week before. The only good thing is that miraculously I didn't bruise from these sticks. I have a horrific bruise from my one hour two weeks ago and was expecting four more to go along with it.
According to this table from H.J. Landy, et al Obstet Gynecol, 87 (1996), pp. 395–400, you have about an 80% chance of passing the 3 hour and not having GD. With #1, I failed the 1 hour (can't remember exact number but not too high) and passed the 3 hour with "flying colors." For pregnancy #2, I passed the 1 hour. Now on pregancy #3, I just failed my 1 hour on Friday with a result of 150 and have to take the 3 hour tomorrow . I'm not super worried about failing the 3 hour but it sucks to have to spend my entire morning there without eating.

Are there people who don't have to actually sit there for the 3 hours? Because I'm jealous of them! For my follow-up post delivery with DS I did the 2 hour test and I was allowed to go sit in my car during it as long as I came in before the 2 hours was up and could quickly come up if they called, but I stayed in my car because I was pumping and forgot the wall charger and then fell asleep.
I failed the one hour twice this pregnancy. Once at 134 and once at 142. My office cuts off at 130. I passed the three hour both times (all draws). So, there is definitely a chance!
Oh, and I remember seeing a chart that said, with a score in the 140s, you had about an 85 percent chance of passing the three hour.

Well, I ended up failing the 3 hour but I'm here to say it wasn't that bad. Actually, I'm pretty happy I did. I was able to still indulge some and gained much, much less weight with my GD pregnancy than my "normal" pregnancy.
Yes, I failed the 1 hour and passed the 3. I felt like death and almost puked (and made a post about it on here asking if that was a sure sign I was failing, and got the response that it's not) from 30-90 minutes after drinking the drink, but passed all but the fasting draw.
FYI the drink has twice the glucose in the same volume so you'll react differently than the 1 hour... I did not know that going in.

I failed the 1 hour and passed the 3 hour. I think I read the chances of passing the 3 hour after failing the 1 hour are around 67%.
I recommend just following the instructions your doctor gives and not trying to "trick" the test by eating differently beforehand. If you have GD, it's not the end of the world and you want to know so you can be treated and monitored properly.

I did have to sit there the whole time. BORING.
Despite eating all the ice cream, I'm only up 4lbs at 27+3, so the weight gain control isn't much of a perk. I'm glad the diet wasn't too terrible though!
OMG I cannot believe I have to sit at the doctors the whole time. I don't have time for this!
