Why would she? That's Ivanka's job.
Ivanka has always played more of a First Lady role than Melania. She's the one who humanizes DT, who translates him, who reassures everyone when he messes up that he doesn't really mean what he says.
If they can't figure out a way for Ivanka and her husband to be there to steady DT and moderate him and present him information in a way that he can sort of digest it, then help him make a decision, I'm really not sure how he will function as president.
ETA: I mean, yes, it's unethical and totally violates all of the blind trust bullshit and it's nepotism of the worst sort. But I seriously question whether Trump is capable of operating without them. Or, possibly, an Ivanka-and-Kushner-less Trump might be worse than one with them on-hand. He showed in his interviews with Bannon, Howard Stern, etc. that he is susceptible to wanting to please whomever is in front of him. Given the people he's choosing to surround himself with, they might be the most "moderate" people he's going to interact with.
Move to DC and homeschool him. Because any dime I pay in taxes to provide security to Trump Tower 24/7 because she refuses to do what the job entails will PISS ME OFF! That security better be paid by Trump's "billions" not ours. We pay for security and staffing for ONE residence, and that one just happens to be located at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue.

I saw Architectural Digest photos of the White House over the years. Jackie Kennedy had twin beds in her room. Melania can have a whole room to herself, I'm sure. Nobody on staff would blame her. I know I wouldn't.

He is 10. I am sure the many elite privates in the DC area can easily accommodate him and his sports activities. It is not like he is in his senior year.
This is another example of why I don't think they were in it to win. How do you not contemplate the impact on your family or your business? How do you not discuss it extensively before taking on something that will drastically change your family's way of life.
Jackie Kennedy spent A Lot of time away from the WH. Jimmy Durante made a tag line out of it. "Goodnight Mrs. Kennedy, wherever you are!" Eta I'm not excusing Melania, just to say there is precedent. People criticized Jackie too.
See: twin beds.
(I don't really blame her. She was doing a lot of traveling and outreach...and doing her best to stay away from JFK's roving penis, no doubt. He wasn't exactly stellar husband material.)

I mentioned in another thread that I was listening to Diane Rhem the other day and the journalist panel was having trouble answering listener questions. This was one of the topics they had trouble with. The question was something about our tax dollars going to make Trump more money because of splitting time bt NYC and DC. The journalist sort of misinterpreted the question I think, comparing the situation to the secret service making improvements to GWB ranch to accommodate and how that increased the value of the property. The caller was actually asking about the government paying rent to Trump to house the Secret service, in addition to the improvements and cost of securing 2 residences. The journalist ended up leaving it at "interesting question, I hadn't thought of that and will have to do research".
I kind of wondered if she was hoping he would lose so she could divorce him, especially after the sexual assault accusations. Not living with him would be a compromise.

What? No, she's all about this new title, and just like her husband is disinterested in anything beyond that. But she knew what she was signing up for.
She'll stay with him until it's time to trade her in for a newer model.

A dad in my son's class is on the logistical side for SS. Ran into him yesterday and he usually is super laid back and chill and he looked like he hadn't slept. Mentioned the whole "mostly living in NY" thing and confirmed indeed that it is a nightmare.
Also mentioned that 45 is used to private security and is "having to adjust."
