Does the military usually wait to relocate a family until the end of the school year? I was under the impression that they do not. And Trump is going to be the commander of the armed forces. Why should the taxpayers be asked to pay the bill to handle Trump's dependents differently than those of the rest of the military? He ran for president. He enlisted.
We move when we get orders, sometimes in the middle of the school year. We could wait or go early but then we wouls be paying double rent which is not affordable for most.
I wonder if any of the businesses will move. I loved Tiffany (both the items and the set up of the store itself), but right now, I wouldn't step foot in the store because of the hassle.
I think a lot of them will have to, though how are they going to break their leases? Trump is the landlord. He will sue them for the rent and lost profits, I'm sure.
Also the part in one of the articles about how the helicopter tours of NYC will probably need to end? What happens to those businesses?
There was this big argument on my friends FB post about this. Basically people kept going back to well he is saying he won't accept any type of income. So there is your money for his added security. They have no concept on how much this will cost. Not at at all.
But then some people where like well there is a rumor that his son is Special Needs and that is why they don't want to disrupt his routine. Which I had no idea if that is true or not. So I get that to a point but I am sure there would be a way to home school him for a heck of a lot cheaper.
And as Trump moves through the city, police need to close streets accordingly. For example, the Lincoln Tunnel was closed to traffic on Friday afternoon during rush hour when Trump traveled to New Jersey.
So what? He's just going to shut down the whole fucking city whenever he decides he wants a meatball sub and a back rub from Chris Christie?
This insanity of "special snowflake spending" will be completely ignored by his adoring fool supporters. Because "gee-golly-whiz, he is doing this all for the good of the nation, not taking a salary. Only $1. He's the best."

Because $400,000 a year is going to pay for all the added security?

Yes, that was mentioned several times. With several people telling them it's not the reality. BUT HE HAS NO INCOME.

I'm not a litigious person, but I think they should take a page out of his own book and sue him.

No, the military does not follow the school calendar. But there are more transitions in the summer than other times of the year. And lots of people with school-aged kids leave the non-military spouse behind with the kids for a few months to finish a school year.

Not in my extensive experience. When they say go, you go when they say go. I can only remember one move that occurred (coincidentally) during the summer break.
My husband grew up in a military family. They almost always moved in the middle of the school year. My BIL is navy and he is getting transferred overseas in January, which is middle of the year for my nephew. You don't get a choice. You just go. Obviously, you know that, though.
This dude really fucking grinds my gears. I about had a stroke when I saw the $1 million/day figure. Holy fucking shit. FISCAL CONSERVATIVES, THOUGH.

I don't know why he doesn't just stay in Bedminster if he insists on not moving to Washington. An hour+ commute to school would be a PITA for Barron, but it's doable when you have an escort and your own personal fucking helicopter.
I also don't know why he had to go to NJ to meet these assholes rather than staying in Manhattan and making them come pay homage at Trump Tower.

I wish there was some type of cost-benefit analysis that could be done and would change everything before January. Clearly, the costs heavily outweigh any benefit of having this man as President. It would be a quick study. No benefits to be found yet.
If he doesn't pocket it himself, he will donate it to the Trump Foundation so that the kids can use it to further the interests of the business.
He should take a salary. The Presidency is not a volunteer job, and should not be regarded as such. His salary should be taxed, and he should have the right to spend that money however he wants as long as it's legal.
I'm cracking up at everyone who is suggesting the Trumps should have discussed this before he ran. What evidence has there been that Mel and Don discuss anything, ever? There has been no indication at any time in the past 18 months that they consult each other about anything. They rarely look at each other and Donald always walks 10 steps ahead of her. They most definitely are not a "couple."
She has never wanted any part of this and he never bothered to ask. I think this is how their marriage operates and it never occurred to them, much like it never occurred to him that he would need to hire 4000 people, that things would change after the election. I think Melania is flat out refusing to live in the same house as Cheeto and she actually has him by the balls right now. She "likes her independent lifestyle" is code for "I hate his guts and living separate lives works just fine for me."
I think she would actually divorce him to avoid a forced move before she would divorce him over adultery because they clearly don't give a rat's ass about each other.

I do wonder about the high if Hillary won too. I mean, Chappaqua isn't Manhattan, but I'm guessing she'd still come back and visit and fly into one of the city airports.
But then again, she wouldn't be coming back every weekend, and millions of people won't be inconvenienced when she's in Chappaqua. So never mind.

she usually flys into White Plains, although I don't know if there would be any security issues with that as the president.
I'm fucking fired up about this. It's bullshit. Move into the White House and get over yourself. This just seems like yet another snub from Mr. I'm Too Good for Everything. GODDAMMIT.
Where are all those mother fuckers who were complaining constantly about the Obamas and their vacations? Because all I hear is crickets about this.
NYC is already on high alert for potential terrorist attacks and THIS fool wants to stay here? No. Get your ass to the White House with your family. I drove home from work on Friday (NYC to NJ) and it took me 3 hours to go 7 miles thanks to that fool. You can't simply quickly close a tunnel or street here and reopen it without having lasting effects.

Yeah I realized White Plains would be a likelier option after I posted. It's easy to forget that airport!

I flew out of there once and the whole airport was like one big room. I thought it would be similar to Islip, but it was much smaller. It was super convenient though.
This ain't about anyone being against the best interest of a child, stop with that nonsense.
I am personally enraged that tax money will be spent on accommodating his family's "needs" while he is talking about slashing basic need services and medical care options for other people's families.
But what I'm saying is that to me, the child is important. He didn't ask for this.
I'm not unsympathetic to cost arguments, but i think the cost for the few months this will be is probably small potatoes.
If you, or anyone else, has any actual dollar amounts to prove me wrong, I'm open to them.
This is jsut the port authority- not even the SS or NYPD
Cost for the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey for one presidential visit to New York City. With Donald Trump reportedly planning to make Trump Tower in midtown Manhattan his weekend White House, New York is staring at regular, profound gridlock. [The Washington Post]

This is where I am. I have absolutely no problem paying for security during the transition and continuing to pay for WH security and SS detail for his kids. But I am bullshit at having to pay for WH-level security all the time in Manhattan. WTF. And not one of my fiscal conservative friends is upset by this.
