auntie it's really disturbing that you would pass on rumors like this. Unless the Trumps come forward saying it this is nasty speculation about an innocent child.
This is aunties MO. She gets a sick thrill from thinking every kid out there has ASD.
There is some buzz out there in Autismworld that young Barron is a fellow traveler. Super old dad, flat affect and rare sightings.
The school he attends currently touts itself as "a supportive, vibrant learning environment where teachers stay late to tutor and parents come early to connect. You’ll also find a place where each student’s unique needs and learning styles are met, and where social responsibility, citizenship, and good character are as important as intellectual success."
That could be a kind of ed-speak for a private special school.
It could also explain Melania's choice of anti-bullying as her FLOTUS project. And The Donald's ranting about vaccines and ASD in the past.
These quotes from Town & Country did little to dispel that rumor.
"Barron may only be nine, but he's already developing the exacting standards that are his heritage. While young Barron likes helicopters and cars, he absolutely will not stand for having them on his bedspread, preferring, "clean and white," according to mom Melania."
"Cetaphil shall not touch the skin of a Trump heir. In a move that's a little bit sweet and a little bit Mommy Dearest, mom Melania slathers son Barron head to toe in her Caviar Complex C6 moisturizer every night after his bath."

That's disturbing. Unless she's a doctor seeing a child she has no business speculating on that whatsoever.

Actually, I just think Auntie has a very narrow field of interests, misses a lot of social cues and has difficulty determining what topics are appropriate for conversation in different environments.
I don't know, I would feel differently if she wanted to stay in some house in the country or more remotish suburbs. But this is a fucking nightmare for NYC especially with trump tower being in the middle of the city on 5th avenue. Buses have been messed up for weeks. People's commutes that used to take 30 minutes now take an hour. This is not something that can be maintained because they don't want to pull a fucking 10 year old out of school.
He probably enjoys this since NYC went to HRC. It's a nice easy form of revenge for him.
I actually think they're staying in NYC so Trump has an excuse to go back there frequently. I think he really didn't think he would win and is not prepared to leave his tower whatsoever.

auntie, come on. Speculating on the disability status of a celebrity child, and going out to find "proof" of said speculation, is really just a vulture-ish thing to do. I don't care if it's a gossipy pastime in certain ASD circles -- it's not exactly uncommon for parents to prefer to protect their child's medical privacy both in school and socially to the extent they can. I am pretty open about my kid's dx -- but I doubt I would be if I were a celebrity. Not everyone wants their kid to be a poster child for whatever they are dealing with.
People can excoriate DT's vaccine remarks and the fact that he may put anti-vax quacks in charge at the NIH, and leave Barron out of it. I don't really care WHY the anti-vaxxers have DT's ear, I care more that they apparently DO. God knows he's a conspiracy theory hound for just about everything, why would ASD be any different even if he has absolutely no personal connection to it at all?
4speedy, your comment using ASD symptoms as an insult is pretty shitty, too.

I can't imagine the businesses, homes, etc. that would be effected by he and Melania regularly going between the WH and Trump tower. Trump's whole image is so linked with the city, i wonder if he would bow to pressure because he didn't want to piss off everyone?
I caught the tail end of the report on MSNBC just now and it sounds like Melania is now planning on finishing out the school year, then moving.
Now if that were actually true, that would be understandable enough, I suppose. But I suspect it's not true, and it will be the summer and there will be some other reason why they can't move him.
To be completely honest though, they may have problems finding a school for him. Given how litigious, racist, and now, extremely powerful, Trump is, I wonder how many private schools want to deal with this kid. Seems like a problem waiting to happen.

This is a super shitty response. Using typical ASD traits to mock someone is not cool.

LOLOLOLOL. I doubt it. This is Trump's revenge on Manhattan for snubbing him for years. Because all those old-money and/or new money urban sophisticates saw him for the crass, boorish business failure of a rich punk that he is. So now he gets to tell all of Manhattan to suck it up and deal, he's president now and his comfort matters more. He finally can't be ignored.
The only argument I can see maybe making an impact is losing the business leases in Trump Tower if foot traffic is impacted. But I guaran-damn-tee you that they will be filled in seconds by foreign countries or businesses who want to cozy up to Trump. Hell, I could see Putin buying out a whole floor and just letting it sit empty as a gesture of goodwill. And even if DT ever does the "blind trust," he will know exactly who is renting from his companies or staying in his hotel. People will TELL him that they are, to stroke his ego and try to get what they want out of him!
I actually think they're staying in NYC so Trump has an excuse to go back there frequently. I think he really didn't think he would win and is not prepared to leave his tower whatsoever.
This is my take on it as well. I think this gives him a reason to go back frequently without it just being that he likes to sleep in his own bed. (Cant he bring his bed to DC?)

Yes, he can. I'm reading The Residence right now and it sounds like the incoming president can bring in whatever furniture they want into the White House.
Personally, I think it is more that he gets more publicity for Trump Tower if White House business is done in his building vs the White House....and he is all about promoting his name. He doesn't own the White House, so what good does a video clip for showing a building that is not his?

And maybe it's not just about all those years of snubs. Fun Fact: During the NY Primary in April, Trump received the most votes of all Rs in 61 of 62 counties in the state. The one county he lost (to Kasich)? New York County, aka Manhattan.

This. auntie I can see why you'd hate on someone who damages the autism community with those stupid anti-vaxx tweets, but there are plenty of reasons why this would be kept silent.
And fuck right off to all of you auntie haters. She's done more for parents of newly diagnosed kids than I've ever seen.

I can imagine being Donald Trump's 10-year-old kid isn't easy, especially when your home is surrounded by protestors and you are faced with the prospect of leaving your friends and starting a new school in a new city. I can see letting the kid finish out the school year.
I also think Melania is supper-pissed about having a new job she isn't getting paid for and probably doesn't want.
Can you imagine the outrage if Michelle tried to pull this?
Michelle would have been based for being "uppity" and thinking the WH wasn't good enough for her.
Trump supporters are just going to say that Melania is too refined to live in the "swamp" and that the WH is below her standards. I mean she was a MODEL. Why would she host parties at the WH?

Plus they'll likely say that Melania is a "better mother" than Michelle Obama because she's keeping her child in his own home, in his own school, and near his friends. Rather than uprooting and dragging him to DC, like Sasha and Malia were forced to endure.

I don't fault her for wanting her kid to finish the school year. I mean, i k ow kids switch schools mid-year all the time, but on it's face, I don't think this is unreasonable.
Now if they're still in NYC come July, that's another story.

It is unreasonable when the bill is being footed by taxpayers.
Don't run for President if you aren't committed to everything that comes with the position.

I'm with you on this one. It was a long time ago, but I am pretty sure there was speculation that Michelle O would do this as well, and I had no issue then. I understand that ultimately the Obama girls did switch schools in January, but it wouldn't have bothered me if they didn't.
There is so, so much to be outraged about with a Trump presidency that this seems like small potatoes.

Of everything to fault them on, i just cant get it up for this one.
I do think this is probably pretextual for the whole family not moving and that would/will make me angry, but a 10 year old finishing the school year just doesn't work me up.

The only reason I'm enraged about it is what it's doing to businesses surrounding Trump Tower. It was relatively easy for the Obama's Chicago home to be secured to keep the first family safe, but being on 5th Avenue is a whole different ballgame. They're prone to all kinds of attack (including something along the lines of 9/11 given that his building is one of the tallest in the city and their home is the penthouse. Apparently shops on that block (which includes such big names as Tiffany) are reporting decreased foot traffic and sharply decreased sales as a result of the security mess. We need to keep the first family safe without a doubt, but putting a 10 year old's comfort above the livelihoods and jobs of many isn't acceptable.

I'm also enraged for all the workers commuting to work anywhere near that area whose already-long commutes are becoming or have become unbearable.
I'll be honest, I haven't worked in Manhattan for a couple of years now and have been considering going back when a great opportunity arises, and I'm just not sure I can handle an even worse commute than I had before. Recruitment for businesses in the area might become more difficult as well. But don't worry, Trump will bring jobs back!

Yup! Hs commute is just far enough outside it to not impact it, but SILs commute is way longer. Someone on my local board's commute increased by half an hour because of how far away her bus stop was relocated, and that extra time is walking (which wouldn't be an option for everyone). This is creating a nightmare for so many people.
