When I was in elementary school the children's choir I was apart of recorded a tape for Harcourt Brace (a recording company) ... Oh, I was in a commercial for our local library; I said, "Reading is fun!" and I was in a commercial for the county I live in - I was fishing on my Papa's dock and I screamed, "I CAUGHT ONE" .. I was 5 or 6 for both commercials.
3) Not about me necessarily but I think it's interesting enough to mention that my great grandma had 30 children. Her family was in time magazine in 1936 because of it.
Holy shit!
How old was she when she started? How old when she finished? Twins? Triplets? Same father for all of them?
I was on Oprah as a guest. Not quite as exciting as it sounds, as they cut my part for the actual show (which I was super grateful for), but it was awesome meeting her, being in the green room, getting hair and makeup done and having a front row seat for the whole taping. I also got some fun free gifts and a free stay at the Omni Hotel (plus a limo ride to the studio).
I was also a guest on Oprah. They warned me that parts might be edited out, but they used everything they shot (about 5 minutes of me). It was pretty exciting.
...why were you ladies on Oprah?
My aunt sent me these photos she took of her TV when I was on:
I once spent the night drinking with Swiss military helicopter pilots in a secret underground bunker.
I have hiked / backpacked through all of the western national parks.
I want to know how people meet all these crazy people?!? I must lead an extremely sheltered life.
It's not that great of a story. We got back stage at a concert in LA, and people were lined up to get autographs. My friends made fun of me for getting in line, and by the time they finished teasing me, I was last in line. I also had a really bad mullet and a giant blue leg brace.
Anyway, he was hugging girls and signing whatever they had, and the girl in front of me had the balls to ask him for a kiss. So he kissed her on the cheek and then it was my turn. I mumbled at him to sign my ticket stubs, please, and then he asked me if I wanted a kiss, too. Naturally, I said yes. Then he shoved his tongue down my throat and few minutes later asked me if I wanted to see his tour bus. I screamed no and hobbled away in my leg brace. Then my friends really made fun of me.
Anyway, since then, we've lived in the same neighborhood in Seattle and I used to see him a lot at the grocery store. Shockingly, he doesn't seem to recognize me.
The Swiss army is a longer story, but involved drunk soldiers wandering around Interlaken, Switzerland, and inviting my group of friends back to their "ice hole" (the bunker was under a public ice rink) for "wine and cheese". I do have a picture of me from that night, decked out in full camo holding a machine gun and a machete. It was weird-- I felt completely safe with these men (though I probably should not have); we were with a large enough group and even had some male friends with us. The machete, though, put me over the edge and I was crying in the picture.
I survived loosing just over 6 liters of blood and being flat lined for 70 seconds. The experience had a definite impact on my perspective to say the least.
What happened? I also want to hear more about kirkette's family!

You are awfully inquisitive today.
I'm always inquisitive. I just feel more comfortable posting and I'm sooooo bored right now. If I had gin or tequila, it would be bad news. You are more than welcome to ask me questions too.

My aunt dated George Clooney when he was 19-20ish. She broke up with him because he was younger than her. She said he was kind of nerdy back in the day.
I've been to Ed McMahon's house (before he passed) for a baby shower. He answered the door. He lived next to Britney Spears but I had no clue which house was hers. I didn't see her either. I then went a few years later to his widow's house for another baby shower.

My grandfather was in Time magazine in the 40's--he's famous for tripping on a box and saying "Shit" ;D And, yes, lurking Nest Gods, Time mag printed the word "Shit".
Audry- there have been some studies about transplant people enjoying things their donor did. Have you had this experience ?
I don't know anything about my donor so its hard to know. I have written letters but the family hasn't responded. It's only been a year so hoping as time passes, they will write back. I do have some new likes...... I used to hate seafood but now crave fish and shrimp so I want to find out if my donor was a big seafood fan.
Thanks to the genealogy post, I finally thought of mine.
I'm 1/2 Native American.
My mom is part of her tribe and makes authentic Native American clothing and has a Native American name and goes to pow-wows, Native American weddings, etc.
I think it's really interesting because most people I know who have any Native American blood are only about 10% or less.

What a fascinating post! I am "flagged" by the federal authorities as a suspicious traveler. I have no idea what for. I'm a law abiding citizen with a completely clean record and have not even had a single speeding ticket in my life, much less been criminally convicted. I'm also white and have somewhat of a "sweet and innocent" look about me, for what it's worth. In any case, it makes crossing international borders a serious pain in the ass.
My uncle murdered my aunt. There's a book written about it.
My great uncle is the love child of a well known big bang musician. My great grandfather used to make him sleep in the backyard in a shack because it wasn't his son.

Ever think your identity has been stolen? My h has, and it's been annoying. Only reason I could think of.
Good point. I was told by an airport staffer last time I traveled that I should check with the police to see what's going on. I probably should.

Do you participate in the culture? Are you continuing it with your kids?
One branch of my family tree is currently ruling a small island nation about 90 miles away from Florida.
I've been drunk on national tv for a special interest piece for CNN Headline News; telling college kids that they can start drinking before the camera crew arrives is never ever a good idea. But in our defense they were featuring our college class on Beer and Spirits since it was one of the first courses offered in the US of its kind.
Are you willing to share the island nation? Or should we just assume you have an uncle Fidel and Raul?
More like very very distant cousins...but damn my dad really does look like Fidel so who knows which Mr. C my grandmother actually slept with!

my husband and FIL were on this list for awhile. First of all, they have the same first/last name (different middle names) as each other but this is a common Irish name, think something like Patrick O'Brien. There was someone associated with the IRA who had this name as well, thus the flag.
