I hate it when people make fun or laugh at others name choices. With that said here is my flameful.
The name Tinsley is so basic pumpkin spice stupid as hell. And its even worse on a 40 something year old. I cant take her seriously with such a name. I just can't.
I'm bad with this, and I shouldn't be especially since my parents were such assholes to me over choosing Xavier and Wesley (which they thought were the stupidest names ever)
But some names make just you wonder if they thought ahead to an adult in a professional setting. Like Ocean. "Hi, I'm vice president of sales, Ocean".

I'm not a fan of a wonderful pumpkin spice tradition in the South of naming your child your maiden name. I know a McCallister, Mattison, and Loveland to name a few. All girls by the way.

Me either! In the northeast some people are pumped for PS and it's mid-August. JFC folks we get limited warm weather, don't rush fall. Give me until 9/1!
I didn't know of this tradition either.
I'm kind of always baffled by the surge in names. I grew up in the Jennifer/Jessica/Sarah age. Then you had the Madisons and the Sophia's and Olivia's. It's not a bad thing, I guess you just hear the name and say "oh I like that too", but I wonder why don't people think of another name, more unique name? How could you know what's going to surge though until it's huge...answering my own question here.

My last name is currently a popular first name and it irritates me.

I didn't know it was, either, and I live in the south. I don't know anyone who's done that. The most I have seen is using a maiden name as a middle name.

DH and I are at my in-laws for the week. They live at the beach. They obviously provide us with a free place to stay and food and everything (even though we try to pay them back) but they have literally planned out every meal while we're here. This is our summer vacation and we look forward to hitting some of our favorite restaurants while we're here. It's always awkward to have the conversation that we might not need to eat every meal with you. I know they're intentions are good and they are incredibly generous, but ugh.

This is exactly the problem - and why there are people named Tinsley. People try too hard to think of something unique!

It bugs me that so much with all these MLM posts on FB when our country is falling apart. When they don't acknowledge or pick a side yet they are still trying to sell their make-up, etc. I am about to unfriend all of them.

My husband has a family last name for his first name that happens within the past 15 years or so to have become a hugely popular girls name. He's frequently headhunted as part of his industry and people are always shocked that he's a man.
ETA: He's from Chicago but his mom was born in Lousiana, so maybe it really is a Southern thing.

Because then people will comment "Didn't you think ahead to what it would be like for them as an adult!"

I figured it was a Southern white tradition because those are the only people I know who have chosen to utilize the last name as a first name. I'd imagine in Alabama, Georgia, and SC it's more common but who knows...maybe I just know some odd ducks.
I'm still seething over a baby name comment my SIL made a few weeks ago. She thinks we should name DD Bella Elizabeth and when I mentioned that was NMS at all and that I like names that have relevance to my culture and gave some examples of ones I won't use but considered, she said they "sound Indian." A) so what? And B) these are from the language of the Bible that you pretend to care so much about. She is a dumbshit cracker and it's embarrassing she's an ESOL teacher with that level of ignorance. I'm tempted to give DD a super biblical Hebrew name that was made fun of on here to give everyone the middle finger (I happen to love it).
So she wants you to name your daughter "Elizabeth Elizabeth"?
I did not know this was a thing. And I'm baffled by it.

My name is my mothers maiden name and I live in the south. Im 29 so I guess my parents were a little ahead of the trend lol. My mom says that she always knew she wanted her first child's name the be her maiden name.
I was the only person I knew of that had their moms maiden name as their first name growing up but I do see it more now.
I'll play today- Names, wtf would you name a child Canyon? My cousin bought her 4 year old a bra, because she wanted one. Same cousin also thinks her daughter would like Dance classes because she likes to show her belly.

I had pumpkin spice coffee this week. No regrets. It was a rainy day and it was tasty.
My married last name is a trendy boy's first name and it only annoys me because I would love to tag all of DS's daycare stuff with just his last name so that it will already be tagged for hypothetical kid 2, but I can't because I feel like it looks too confusing.
My maiden name has become a popular boys name. Which did make it easier to make is DSs middle name...
Speaking of names, I always felt that people over analyzed the "do these names go together" thing a bit too much. Until I met our neighbors. They now have 4 girls. The names are ALL over the place with the most recent being (to me) an old ladies name.
I asked their oldest if it was a family name. Nope. It ended in an "a". That's the sound they are going for with each name. (Their 2nds name actually ends in "ah" but the same sound. But what's funny is that her name is the only "nick nameable" name and she goes by a shortened version that does NOT end in the a sound)
To each their own. They are a lovely family with lovely children. I don't dislike the names - but it's just the lack of 'going together' really stands out to me!

I don't understand how people are able to reproduce at well the rate that they can.
How can you function with a 4, 2, 1, and newborn? How does that even work? I wonder if I'm just not that great of a person/mom because I'm incapable of understanding how you can maintain sanity for yourself or within your marriage, and also be a decent parent.
Also, how does your body handle birth so many times and so close together? I know someone who had 4 c-sections, she looks amazing and well appears to be the type of mom that pinterest was made for.

That's a good point. And I should have been more clear. When I say unique I don't necessariarly mean "Sky blue Rain" or something, I guess just going against the grain, if everyone is Matthew or Jennifer, pull out a David or Matilda.
I feel bad when babies have names that sound like future stripper names. Sometimes even just changing the traditional spelling too, like Krystal instead of Crystal. I suffer from this I could never find those silly name key chains or mini license plates.

And Keylover that's creepy.
What are future stripper names though? I don't know of anyone who has ever met a stripper and got his/her name....other than well Magic Mike.
I started Christmas shopping. I NEVER do this early. And I always would hate on people that do, like stop rushing summer! But I couldn't resist some deals.

I have an acquaintance who has 4 under 4. I have no idea how she does it, but I suspect it is made possible by a lot of $$$$$ and a lot of family support. When the youngest was about 6 months she and her H took a kid-free vacation to Europe for like 10 days. I could not believe it. Who the hell would want to watch 4 kids under 4 for that long?!?! On FB her life does look pintresty and perfect. It's baffling.

My confession is I love all the unique and unusual names people choose. We chose very traditional names for our boys and I sometimes wish we had chose something more unique.
On that note, I went to an indoor play place with my boys one time and there was a set of sisters there named Tiger and Caracal. I thought those were so cool.
I have a friend who just had her 5th. Ranging from 8 years-newborn.
I honestly have no idea how the hell she does it, she is always calm and smiling. Her H does make bank so I am sure that helps, but I feel tired just looking at her. As far as I know, no nanny but a babysitter sometimes. And she works part time at a non-profit.
