Just got back from dropping DD off for school child care and voting, and I was pleasantly surprised how busy my polling location was at 7am for a non-presidential year. Lots of really young people working the polls too- the guy that handed DD her "future voter" sticker (first one of the day for them!) looked like he had just turned 18.
My H and I are going together right before lunch. This will be our first time at this polling location since we moved over the summer. Our neighbor said it’s small town voting, so expect to pop in and out. I won’t be able to gauge a thing from that.
I showed up at 6am and was surprised there was already a line of about 15 people waiting for them to open. For the presidential, I was the only one there that early.
Friends are reporting lines in their districts, which I think is good. I'm going at lunch or right after school and taking the kids. My H got called to DC last night for work, and is STUCK. He knows I am about to murder him. He promises he is going to find a Gillespie voter and convince him/her not to vote. I told him he was going to be divorced when he got home. Not voting is a cardinal sin in our house.
My parents canvassed yesterday. My dad went from a cardiologist appointment where he discovered something wrong with his heartbeat and headed straight to canvas for three hours. He said it was hard and thankless but was glad he did it. I'm extra emotional this morning.

This has happened to DH before, I think it was 2012? He got called out of town the day before the election, so too late for absentee. There was a chance that it was going to happen again this year, so I've been nagging him to early vote. He didn't, but it at least got him to seriously look at the timeline for his current project and how likely it was that he'd have to leave yesterday.
I voted before work and there wasn't a line, but all of the stations were busy when I got there. I'm going to look at this as a good sign, cause I can't spend the day thinking otherwise.
There are about 3-4k of eligible voters in my district. This morning at 7:20 the count was up to... 220. Last year I stood in line for 1.5hrs around the same time.
However, I'm in the western part of the state and my district is pretty solidly red. So it may be ok that turnout is on the lower side.

This is good! If I was a rural Republican, a corporate lobbyist wouldn’t inspire me to vote.
I’m so nervous and am clinging to any good sign because apparently I have learned nothing from 2016.
I really hope the Dems pull it off, but Northam just did not have good campaign ads. His reply to Gillespie's charge that he was pro restoring the rights of child molesters was simply "I would never hurt a child, and he should know that". It was just plain bad. One of these days Dems are gonna have to figure out how not to be punching bags.

And they were SO slow responding to Vogel's ad that made her seem super progressive. That's been running for at least a week, and I finally just saw a Fairfax ad countering it this morning.

I'm hoping the NRA Vogel ad that kept showing her at shooting ranges hurts her...
I will add, I am in NoVA and almost all of the yard signs I see are for Dems. In the past it's been ~60/40 (for Dem) but it's definitely more like 90/10 this year. I am hoping that helps things. Maybe I am being stupidly optimistic.
It's my first time voting in VA! I'm in a teeny little town of about 500 and planning to go this afternoon. I'm hopeful about my local Dem delegate candidate, she's a first-time candidate and I see a lot of signs for her.
Fingers crossed. I don't know whether to be optimistic or pessimistic about the governor's race, so mostly I'm just nervous.
Decent turnout when we went to vote at 6:30 this morning. Hopefully it keeps up.

We took our 8 week old with us. I grew up going with my parents when they went to vote, so I was excited to continue the tradition with her. And check out her adorable election day outfit (behind spoiler).
I’m feeling more optimistic today than I did a few days ago. Democrats need to see a lot of improvement but if there is a voting population that is painfully aware of the stakes here, it is NoVA and Richmond.
NBC said Gillespie’s hopes ride pretty much on turnout.
There's never a line at my polling place but today it was a steady stream of people in & out (we are solidly blue). Northam/dems had a strong GOTV presence in my area too. I've gotten 3 door knocks in a week!
A friend just said Gates has approval to vote today. We vote at the same polling place. Ugh.
Hang out outside and trip him on his way in. Ok, you probably can't get close enough since he'll be escorted, but maybe a small, tasteful crowd of people pointing and saying "shame" ominously would get the point across.

My coworker says her two children applied for absentee. One came back denied and too late to edit and reapply. One never came at all and she called multiple times and was assured it was in the mail.
