I love waking up to a bunch of happy news alerts on my phone rather than a barrage of rage inducing things Trump has done overnight. I'm so happy for them.
I get that they are in love, but I would never volunteer for this public abuse. I would not be able to keep my mouth shut.
...a comment in the Mail On Sunday by Rachel Johnson that said if the couple had children “the Windsors will thicken their watery, thin blue blood and Spencer pale skin and ginger hair with some rich and exotic DNA”.
Ditto, not wanting to be in the public eye like this.
And EW at that comment. I was listening to the radio this morning on my drive into work and it was included in Q104's quick little news roundup, and they included the sentence, "It won't be a typical royal wedding, as the mother of the bride has dreadlocks and a nose ring." Who the fuck cares??
NPR talked about how Harry has called out the British papers on the racism they have written about her and will probably have to do it again and again. But seriously, how can any radio station be like this in the US after the last 4+ years?! We are the worst.
He’ll probably wear white and demand to arrive in a horse drawn carriage with an eagle release when he steps out at the venue.
lolol, I am sure he would. Diva.
Luckily there's precedent that he wouldn't be invited ... the Obamas weren't invited to William's wedding since (a) he's only the heir to the heir, and (b) it would've been a security nightmare. And Harry is lower-ranking, plus his wedding will almost certainly be smaller than William's, so he certainly wouldn't have the current POTUS at his own wedding.
That being said, Harry seems rather close to Michelle Obama because of their collaboration on the Invictus Games, and Meghan is American after all ... so it'd be a real hoot if the Obamas are invited to Harry's wedding and Trump is not. I'm sure that'll make Trump nice and pissed. I think I'd pay money to see that, lol.
My royals-related Twitter accounts were blowing up late last week with gossip that their engagement would be announced on Friday, so the rumor mill has been flying for days now. One that made me laugh was that Harry and Meghan would wed at St. Paul's Cathedral, which is hilarious because that's a massive venue (where Charles and Diana were married, which was fitting for the actual heir, not #5 soon to be #6 in line) and there's no possible way Harry's wedding will be that huge. I'm guessing either Westminster Abbey to follow his brother and also if they want to bring London out and do the Buckingham Palace balcony wave/kiss and all that, or St. George's Chapel at Windsor Castle if they want it to be more intimate. A church in Scotland is also a possibility if Meghan's first marriage poses a problem, although as hopecounts already pointed out the Archbishop of Canterbury has made comments that suggest a Church of England wedding won't be an issue.

I don't think it will be a state affair like Will and Kate's, so doubt it.
Their wedding was not a full state occasion either. It was just about as "intimate" as they could get under the circumstances, which cracks me up because it was still so opulent. I watched some of the TV coverage with MH and commented on the trees they had brought into the church and MH made some kind of joke about them having so much money that they were able to break the laws of nature and get foliage to bloom indoors.
Although I gotta say, I was in England last summer and toured Westminster Abbey, and the TV broadcasters were right about the altar area being "intimate" ... that altar is not a big space at all.

Yep as a the heir to the heir to the heir this won’t be a State Wedding. Trump won’t be invited since there is no diplomatic necessity to do so. Given the apparent friendship between the Obamas’ and W,K, and H especially H and Michelle Obama I wouldn’t be surprised if they are invited as private friends. Though that could get tricky so may or may not happen.
They look happy. Naturally happy, not "for the cameras" happy.
I would soooo love to see the Obamas and Trudeaus as guests because of their friendships with Megan and Harry. And Trump not. Because "logistics" and all that, of course.

I could see them covering it by inviting Michelle as a representative of Invictus and of course her husband is invited. Trudeau is easier he is head of Canada and inviting him as such is slightly different.

I'm sure Trump will demand an invite and if he doesn't get one, I'm sure he'll tweet about having to turn the invitation down and he heard it was "the most boring wedding ever".
Some info on her photo call outfit ... the coat is Canadian (Line the Label), the dress (PAROSH) and shoes (Aquazzura) are Italian, earrings (Birks) are Canadian I think. Harry designed the ring with court jeweler Cleave and Company.

I don’t follow royal stuff at all other than basic major headlines and I’m not religious so I have no idea about any of this.
You don’t think current POTUS would be invited because she’s, at least currently, a US citizen? As a mark of tribute or honor or something to her home country?
I can’t see them inviting the Obamas without also inviting the Trumps.
I also don’t know about how small it could be. Sure he’s further down the line, but she’s an actress on a hit show. I’m sure she has a celebrity, agent, Hollywood list to pull from, as well as any family and friends. But maybe she’s already been told to be ready to give all that up and size down.

Inviting the Trudeau's could be a snub to other commonwealth countries if an invite isn't extended to those leaders. Possibly. I'm not a protocol expert, but inviting one commonwealth leader without the others may be a bad idea unless there is a very obvious personal connection.

Maybe I am projecting, but as a WOC, I don't think inviting Trump (a racist, sexist POS) would be how she would want to pay tribute to her home country.

What about the fact that the bride has worked in Canada for the past 7 years? Though, I thought it was common to invite commonwealth leaders regardless. It's just the U.S. presidents that are problematic?

No, I don't think her citizenship has any bearing on whether or not the current POTUS would be invited. Inviting foreign heads of state requires a lot of security detail and cost. It also depends on whether or not the event is a state occasion, which Harry's wedding will not be. There's really no reason to invite Trump. It'd be more of a headache than anything else, his shitty personality not withstanding. Having the pleasant, competent Obamas at William's wedding would've been a logistical nightmare.
European royals were invited to William's wedding, but pretty much every European royal family is related (at least distantly) through descent from Queen Victoria and/or King Christian IX of Denmark so they can claim that those people are part of the family. And the relationship between different royal houses is different than that of a hereditary royal vs. an elected public official. There's probably more of a camaraderie there.
I think Harry and Meghan could easily get away with inviting the Obamas because Harry has a personal/working relationship with Michelle. Plus the Obamas are private citizens now, and them showing up at the wedding would not be in any official capacity ... they'd just be invited as friends. They wouldn't be representing the United States, per se. If anything they'd be there as philanthropic colleagues.
I'm sure their wedding will be larger than anything a "normal" couple would have, but it's probably still going to be "small" by royal standards since Harry isn't an immediate heir. And I'm sure Meghan's status as a divorcee* will affect the size of the wedding as well. They'll have a list of their own friends and family to invite, the Queen and the Palace will give input as to who would be "proper" to invite (distant relatives, foreign and domestic government officials, etc.), and they'll probably have some internal battles over how to compromise on it. I would wager that Harry may have had this conversation with his closest and most trusted staff already and they've had some plans in the works for a while now.
Even if he and the Queen are only now starting to speak to their staff about wedding arrangements, I'm sure the staff have standard guest lists and suggestions (decor, menu, venues) on standby and the staff will present these options to Harry and Meghan and they'll make their negotiations. They throw formal events all the time and so this stuff runs like clockwork. Plus Harry and Meghan have been together a while and surely the staff must've seen this coming, therefore they've at least been running potential plans in their heads and won't be scrambling to draw up potential plans for them to review ... and they can use Will and Kate's wedding plans as a template and just tweak them based on Harry and Meghan's wishes.
I also think the Queen has gotten more lax in her old age and realizes that there are certain battles not worth fighting with her younger family members. And she is probably aware that times have changed and the British public won't be aghast if everything isn't prim and proper. I don't think she's going to fight Harry if there are things he absolutely doesn't want to do, within reason. William said in an interview about his wedding that he and Kate were handed a guest list of one or two thousand people for their wedding, most of whom they didn't even know. He said he brought the list to the Queen to ask for guidance and she basically said, "That's ridiculous. Start with your own friends and then we'll work the rest out from there." (Although he also said that she dictated what he had to wear and he didn't have a choice in the matter.)
* There's nothing wrong with her being a divorcee. I'm just speaking from a "formality" and "protocol" point of view.

I'm kind of hoping for a Ralph Lauren collaboration with a British designer. She's worn Ralph Lauren in the past, and I LOVED the dress he designed for Lauren Bush. While on one hand I would also like to see her pick an edgier designer, her style does tend to err on the side of classic. I guess the designer of the shirt she wore in her first official appearance with Harry is a friend of hers.
