Seriously. You don’t see anyone clamoring for a Cosby show reboot.
Honestly, I wasn’t aware of her past comments and hate.
I think an A Different World Reunion Special would be great if we can go with a Cosby spinoff. (I know that isn't the point, but it never occurred to me before and I would love it).
I was a huge Roseanne fan. I don't have TV now so I can't watch this unless they put it on Hulu, but the previews look terrible (Old Becky is the worst actress and Roseanne just sucks. Love JG and SG).
I only watched the show at friends houses. My mother hated the show, thought Roseanne was crass and slovenly and didn't want me to watch it.
So while I've seen episodes, I don't have a particular nostalgic attachment to it. For all the reasons everyone has laid out in the thread, I have less than zero interest in watching the reboot, despite my love of John Goodman. It's a shame for all the other actors and production staff involved that she's such a deplorable nut.
I loved it as a kid. Not really sure why now that I think back. I also re watched a lot of it about 11 years ago when DS1 was a super crabby infant and Roseanne re run were one of the few things on at 3 AM (how did we all live pre On Demand and iPhones?? I would have such better entertainment with a newborn now...)
Normally I would watch anything with Laurie Metcalf in it, but I just can’t get into this reboot, and Roseanne Barr has just gone off the deep end.

I have no interest in the reboot at all, she is garbage.
I will say that the original was played often in my house and it was one of the first places, if not the first place, I saw lgbtqia relationships- Leon and Nancy.
I’m thankful for that exposure at least. And I liked that Darlene wasn’t girly girl, and still like Sara Gilbert. I also like John Goodman, he reminds me of my dad.
Rosanne is a shit though, so I won’t waste my time.

Yeah I just don’t understand how John Goodman and Sara Gilbert agreed to it. Sara has The Talk and is very vocal with her views so I’m curious to tune in tomorrow to see if she addresses anything. My dad hated Roseanne so he didn’t let me watch it but I still would catch episodes here and there, mostly when I was at my mom’s. DH loves the old show and his mom was super excited for the reboot. I caught the last twenty minutes of the episode and it was so flat. I saw red with the surrogacy thing as I’m an IF vet and I’m currently working with an agency to be a surrogate (my home study is next week). Like, steam came out of my ears I’m sure. I don’t really care if i see any more of this reincarnation. ETA: and that doesn’t even touch the whole white working class crap. Nope. No desire. I can appreciate points that others brought up about realistic teenage sex, lgtb relationships, financial crisis, etc but that only goes so far.

I watched it as a kid and liked it. My mom always thought it was a tad to raunchy. I have watched the earlier seasons with a sense of nostalgia as an adult.

I have always liked Sara Gilbert but her interview insisting that the child in the show is NOT transgender and is “too young to be gay” (oh my fucking god) really pushed all my buttons. It felt like she wanted to have it both ways, introduce some “edgy” and modern references without doing the work to make sure that representation is authentic and meaningful. I would be shocked if the episode that centers on this plot line was anything other than offensive given what she said about it.

I watched it in my youth but honestly, I won't watch the reboot because RB is such a horrible person and it won't interest me in the slightest to support her now.

Sandra Bernard has a show on radio Andy that I sometimes listen to and she is so anti trump and anti trump voters that I really want to call in and ask her how she gives rosanne a pass. But I don’t catch the radio show live very often. And I assume the answer is $$

I can't really think of many 80's or 90's shows that would be great for a re-boot.
I wonder why the heck ABC picked htis one....they kind of had this family-friendly attitude but this seems like a show you'd see on a 3rd rate or minor network
I hope the ratings are so bad they pull it before the first full season

I haaaaaaate Will and Grace so the whole reboot trend really has me annoyed to begin with. No one will ever convince me that that show isn’t homophobic af. Trafficking in tired ass stereotypes for laughs. The 90s should just stay in the 90s. We have way better shows and more diverse representation on TV now across the board so why the throwbacks?

I was allowed to watch the show as a kid because my Mom didn't care that it made fun if white people. Once I heard she was a Trump supporter that became a deal breaker for me.
If I want to watch a bunch of racist looney tunes, I’ll just switch on Fox News.
This feels like a response to some focus group data/the success (?) of the W&G reboot and not something that people genuinely want. TV networks can’t compete with Netflix these days so the pitches are going to be aimed at what they do have, which is nostalgia for the back catalog. Desperate times call for dealing with Roseanne I guess.

I watched it. It was not very good. The dialogue seemed very forced, and they appeared to try to fit a million nostalgia bits into a half hour show. I probably will not go out of my way to watch it again. Jackie's character is VERY liberal and matches the 45 comments line-for-line though, and I did enjoy that.

I watched. I enjoyed the show as a kid. I had no idea Roseanne Barr is a shit human being. I don't follow that kind of stuff, but will be sure to get up to date.
The surrogate stuff was horrible. Jokes about how Becky is too old to have kids. Ugh. It was bad. Let's not make jokes about IF.
The transgender story line was horrible as well. It was not done well at all. It was offensive.
Overall though, I didn't think the acting was as bad as I expected. It was pretty similar to the acting from the original series. I thought the reboot of Fuller House had WAY worse acting.
I admit I’m a grudge holder, but I think Roseanne Barr is trash. Some of the stuff she has done is just irredeemable, and she doesn’t seem interested in being redeemed anyways.

I’m surprised people didn’t know rosanne was a huge trump supporter and an asshole. Maybe I know because I follow tmz on Facebook and they’ve reported on it quite a bit.

My family watched the show religiously when I was a kid, although my dad had his reservations about her, he loved John Goodman.
R and I watched it last night. It was ... not great. The surrogacy plot line makes me super uncomfortable (as an IF-er). The kid who plays Mark (the cross-dressing/TG child) is very talented, but the rest were almost robotic in their delivery (perhaps they were before and I didn't notice because I was a kid?) and the Trump-normalization attempts made me ragey, especially with the comebacks from Laurie Metcalf being rote/stereotypical instead of well-thought-out, well-delivered responses.

I watched both episodes last night. I enjoyed Roseanne growing up mostly because she was obese and so was her husband and being an obese child I liked seeing the main characters that looked like me. I also liked that they touched on controversial (at the time) topics. I believe they were the first sitcom on a major network to show a girl getting her period for the first time and then the first same sex kiss stuff.
The episodes last night were bad. Becky's acting was SOOOO bad it was almost as if she was being a parody of herself but I don't think she was. I didn't realize RB was such a Trumper. I won't watch any more of the new show.
