Is this where I say I hate the Will&Grace reboot too? I mean, let’s bring back Saved by the Bell while we are at it... actually, that’s not a bad idea.
Is this all because of the full house reboot?
I’m trying to think of what sitcoms I’d like to see again.
I'd be interested to see an age breakdown of who watches traditional TV, especially on basic cable networks like ABC and such, versus who's mainly watching stuff via Netflix, Hulu, etc. There's probably a lot of money in getting people in their 30s-40s to watch reboots, not only for the nostalgia but because of the "tradition" of a real TV show. I'm 34 and I'd still rather sit down to a real TV show or a DVRed episode than go scouting around the Internet to watch something ... I'm a big Internet consumer yet I don't want to be bothered with new-fangled technology when I can just flip on a real TV rather than screw around with Chromecast and a bunch of apps that keep crashing on me.
I'm curious too because it seems like most people (in my circles) don't have cable and don't watch traditional tv. They have a firestick/apple tv/roku which is making Netflix and Hulu "surfing" more accessible. Hell, my dad, who complains all of the time about reboots, is the one telling me to check out a series on Netflix because he has the time to watch all of them lol
I don't think it is as simple as streaming services vs. traditional networks though - because Netflix has gotten in on the reboots too with Fuller House.
I would be interested to see the age demos too though - I am 32 and I don't have traditional TV service and I access the new shows through Hulu. If it isn't available on that platform, then sometimes I will go to the network website - like CW.com, but I am more likely to consume a few episodes at a time when I do that vs. watch it weekly as the episodes come out.
So far, I haven't been interested in any of the re-boots they brought out mostly because the shows weren't ones I watched anyways, save Full House, and I didn't care to watch Fuller House because that kind of TV just isn't my jam anymore.
I don't think these re-boots are necessarily lazy or uncreative, because the content is all new - unlike re-makes of old movies where they follow the same story but just update the actors and effects, these TV shows are offering new ideas - they may not be GOOD ones, but, the familiar characters are experiencing new things.
I enjoy the Full House reboot. That I think started the trend of “les get the gang back together!!!” However I think it needs to end. Nostalgia is great, but crappy half assed put together reboots are not.

From what I understand, channels that make money from commercials like to get shows that will have the broadest possible audience because they make their money from ad buys, which in turn are based on how many people watch the show. "Channels" without commercials, like HBO, Netflix, etc make their money from subscriptions. They care less about the audience size of any given show, and more about having the hugest variety of shows so that more people will buy the subscription.
Reboots are popular for both services. Huge preexisting fan base means more reliable ad buys, and it means loyal fans may buy the subscription to watch the show.
I’m pretty sure I’m about to get kicked out of (or voluntarily leave) a fb group I’m a part of because of this damn show. I called someone out for saying it “made her happy” to see the “realness” of it because Roseanne and Dan remind her of her parents. I posted an article about all the shit she’s said and how she’s an awful person and got told to take it down a notch. Lol. We white “liberals” really are a large part of this nation’s problems.
I’d argue Netflix’s Arrested Development actually started this whole thing off.
The Veronica Mars kickstarter movie also likely gave it a nudge along.
Family Guy and Futurama were also rebooted/brought back due to viewer demand and strong DVD sales. I actually watched the Beavis and Butthead reboot when it first came back and it was pretty funny for a while.
Last summer I saw some talk about a King of the Hill reboot. Curious as to whether they'd paint those guys as Trump supporters or not. Hank is a self-proclaimed good ol' boy from Texas who dislikes coastal elites and holds a lot of out-of-date viewpoints and values ... but he'd also probably regard Trump as a "jackass."

My only hope is that influence from John and Sara push some liberal ideas on the Trump supporters watching this, like how the tax cuts are not helping them, cutting the ACA is very hurtful, etc. I do think the original did this- my family watched religiously and I know there were discussions in our home about homosexuality, birth control, boyfriends, and money that I don't think we would've had.
That said, I won't be watching. Screw Roseanne Barr.
It is interesting that the re-boot is coming at this time when the original showed in the Reagan era and Reaganomics, which pushed similar policies as the current admin.
IDK why I find this so funny, but I do. As someone who has been reading comics off and on since the 80s I've long made peace with retcons lol
I'm not a comics fan so YMMV.
Most of the newer Futurama episodes make me cringe (although the finale was nice). At least they were self-aware of it through ... there was one episode where the Professor proclaimed that they needed to go to the Vatican to solve a mystery and Hermes replied, "Didn't we used to be a delivery company?"

I can't watch that, Candace Cameron makes me want to vomit. I didn't even like her as a kid, now she is a worse adult.
I didn't watch last night and have no desire to support RB. Going off pp I will say that I did like the show growing up because it looked my overweight, poor/living paycheck to paycheck family. And I still remember the episode where Darlene got her period because getting mine was traumatic for me, I'm pretty sure Roseanne Connor explained more of what was happening than my own mom did.
I recently read a book called Stealing the Show that talks about women leading television shows starting with Murphy Brown and Roseanne. The book was really interesting and it talks a lot about Roseanne's outrageous behavior during filming.

I can’t stand her either. I can appreciate Jodie Sweetin though. After all she’s gone through, she still has managed to get back into the business. Also, John Stamos... duh.
Bringing back a series that was cancelled (Arrested Development comes to mind) is one thing. Reboots of shows that concluded a long time ago is another.

I’m just inevitably waiting for her to blame the show’s future cancellation on the left because she’s a Trump supporter like Tim Allen did for his show.
I liked the original and I like most of the cast so if not for her being an ass, I would have probably watched it.

I don't know where I fit in. We cancelled our streaming services because I just don't watch much TV and cable and local networks are fine for me. But if ABC ever cuts Jeopardy! and Netflix picks it up, then I can be re-sold on subscribing again.

I like the former. Not so much the latter.
But I really like the Xfiles..is that a reboot? I think yes because it had a long time. This latest season has been great

God I sound so old. I'm only 35, I swear.
I'm with you! I watch Jeopardy every night, but I'm pretty sure my local channel that broadcasts it thinks only old people watch. The ads in between are consistently for: funeral home services, arthritis pain cream, dentures, stairlift installation, and life insurance for the over 50 crowd. I should boycott it since Canadians are no longer allowed to play, but I can't quit.
I was never allowed to watch Rosanne because my mum thought the characters were horribly rude. I have no interest in watching the reboot. I started watching Fuller House for the nostalgia, but couldn't continue after the terrible Indian "Bollywood" scene.
it's bizarre seeing the commentary on this here vs. on FB. I have a couple of people on FB who are all, "yay rosanne! that was so well done! (shame she crazy now, but I loved it anyway)" and then everybody here is all, "I hate this, it's stupid. Also she's the worst"
I want to watch it only to see which side I fall on, but I don't want to support that trumpster nutball...

John Stamos and Candace Cameron are fellow garbage humans.

Wait, what? I occasionally see Canadian contestants, including some recently. If Alex Trebek had any part in that decision, he's a terrible Canadian.

Whoops, I'm behind the times. There was a ban, but apparently it was lifted about a year ago. Something to do with privacy laws and the online test. Now I can feel good about watching again.

So, I watched. I didn't plan to, but my TV was still on from Jeopardy!, I somehow didn't change the channel from shitty Wheel of Fortune but it was bedtime anyway, and lo and behold, I come downstairs and on comes Roseanne. I knew it was rebooting but didn't realize last night would be the night. I admit I laughed during some portions, mostly because of John Goodman and Laurie Metcalf. And I didn't realize Sarah Chalke would be there too so that was funny (although Old Becky's acting was atrocious).
I'm not keeping it on my (sad, nearly non-existent) TV watch list but I'll accept the flames.
I was a big fan of the original and DH and I watched it a ton when we were dating and it was on Nick at Nite, so it's definitely nostalgic for me. I just cannot bring myself to support this, or Roseanne. And like others, I LOVE Laurie Metcalf and John Goodman, so it's all very disappointing. I am guessing that it will fizzle out pretty quickly and yes, Roseanne will blame it on liberals.
Also, FUCK Candice Cameron. I cannot stand her sanctimonious bullshit. She's so goddamn smug and holier than thou. I follow Kristen Bell on Instagram, and she posted something about how thoughts and prayers aren't good enough and we need action, and Candice commented about how she should really be taking this opportunity to ask for action in ADDITION to thoughts and prayers and belittling religion is part of the problem and blah blah blah. I was irrationally enraged that she took that opportunity to be condescending as fuck and impose her beliefs.

I didn't watch it, but apparently there was a joke about killing a kid with trail mix (kid apparently has a peanut allergy), so all my peanut allergy mom friends are outraged. I'm sure it's far from the most tone deaf thing that happened, but that was my takeaway from it (going by my FB feed).
I’m pretty shocked at the number. I also do not think many people know or did know she is a 45 supporter. I don’t those ratings will last but what do I know.

Oh some of them do but "OMG it's such a great show!" It's so infuriating to me.
